Works for me in Firefox and Chrome.

While I love the Any run of Sonic Advance exactly because it's so free of overzipping, if there is a run that skips right to the credits, there can always be a branch that avoids such a skip. We've been publishing such pairs of branches side-by-side for quite some years already.

You mean pasting its input after some frame? If so, open it in a separate tastudio and select the frames you need to import, copy, and paste over to your target project. Otherwise imported movie will just create its own project. I'll ponder your workflow later today, but I can say already that the best way to compare your current work to something previous is dumping an AVI of that and viewing it in vritualdub, as you work on an improvement. Just include all the HUD into the video. Then you won't have to switch away to a different branch all the time just to see what it does, but you'll still see its input and all the relevant info.

These runs won't be too long for a simplistic game of Atari ? I think, after 1-3 tracks most of people will stop watching because it's always the same thing.
Maybe, but it'd end up in vault anyway, as we can't really entertain people by sliding down for a few seconds or minutes.
ViGadeomes wrote:
Also, I think the best way to TAS these games with an In-Game time is to reach the lowest one because it's the way to speedrun this kind of game which will be thinking of by everyone and be played like that in casual play like a default goal as finishing a game like Super Mario Bros or Aims to the best score possible like in Seaquest. There is nothing more to do in this game, and lowest In-Game Time is like a landmark for all players of this game. And doing all these tracks in the same TAS will have as a result that these tracks will be suboptimal on this point. I know that levels aren't accepted anymore but losing this landmark (in-Game time) in a no branch run of this is like losing the goal to finish Super Mario Bros x).
You don't need to drop the ingame time objective to beat all the tracks, because they are timed individually.
ViGadeomes wrote:
If we do that for this game, it means that we will have to do that for all Atari games like Grand Prix, Barnstorming, Sky Jinks (which is the same mechanics 4 determined levels and one "RNG" level) and Private eye (I'll submit 2 TASes in some days if I find a way to present maps).
It's not a requirement, just an option/suggestion for future. And note that games that don't provide individual levels separately don't belong to this scenario.

Is it really necessary to do more than 1 course (assuming the hardest is the one chosen) in a given game that doesn't link or monitor how many courses have been completed? (For a contrast, consider Mario Kart type games where the various courses are monitored/linked to a completion goal of winning points/trophy.)
I repeat that it is optional. It is only preferred if such a movie exists in the first place. Here's the original rule that handles such cases, I probably should have linked it earlier: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#MovieMustBeComplete
Games which consist of multiple full games available immediately in a menu, such as separate level sets, often referred to as episodes in DOS games, or the individual games in Super Mario All-Stars, they may be played and submitted individually. Playing a single episode or individual game to completion, or all episodes or games, is considered game completion. Playing multiple, but not all, episodes or games is not considered completion. Multi-games should be avoided if all the games they contain exist separately on the platform, play the individual ones instead.
For this game, it's not a set of levels, but a set of separate games (it's even how the manual calls them), so the rule that bans single-level movies doesn't apply here.

Some nice stuff from December of 2017:
<ThunderAxe31> I wanted to try MAME-rr.
<ThunderAxe31> I did regret it pretty fast.
<ThunderAxe31> (I got a BSoD)
<feos> haha
<feos> note: due to several billions trillions of supported machines, mame savestates aren't going to be cycle accurate
<feos> which is bad for stresing rng
<Quibus> feos: can you explain why/how the amount of supported machines influences accuracy?
<feos> what fixes some machines will break others
<ThunderAxe31> feos: then, wouldn't be the case to create a different core for each machine?
<feos> it how it works since day 1
<feos> and it looks like you misused the "be the case" thing
<feos> something is the case means it's actual reality
<ThunderAxe31> I don't understand.
<feos> comsider this conversation
<feos> *consider
<ThunderAxe31> oh I understand now.
<ThunderAxe31> oh, well... I thought you was referring to *this* conversation
<feos> <Nach> I suspect adelikat in stealing my cookies
<feos> <Mothrayas> I think that's indeed the case. last time I met adelikat in person, my cookies disappeared as well
<feos> <adelikat> it was your dog you puppet
<feos> do you understand what "to be the case" means now?
<ThunderAxe31> yes.
<Masterjun> rip those cookies though
<feos> well maybe adelikat still keeps them
<Masterjun> in a case?
<feos> yeah just in case
<Masterjun> well, case closed I guess
<feos> in that case, I feel like we really helper ThunderAxe31 out
<feos> *helped
<ThunderAxe31> feos: you're welcome
<ThunderAxe31> lol
<Masterjun> barely used any upper case letters as well
<ThunderAxe31> I'm happy to be a helper :D

Wow, this level of successful delegation is very impressive, and also gives pretty high hopes on how much everyone will enjoy the show. Best of luck!

It won't be a "full completion" type of a goal if you beat all the tracks, because the game doesn't know how many you've beaten and doesn't reward you for all. That makes "full completion" definition arbitrary, so we won't be using it. If you beat all tracks of a certain game mode, it doesn't matter how you do it, as 2 branches (slalom and downhill) or a a single segment run of all the tracks. http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#ObsoletingAPublishedMovie
Movies for all games or episodes inside a multi-game or multi-episode game can obsolete individual movies that only play a single game or episode within the game. This is assuming that the combined movie surpasses all the individual movies that it is trying to obsolete.
This implies that to make your branch unobsoletable, you need to make an exhaustive movie that already plays all the tracks. Otherwise there will remain chance that it gets obsoleted by a fuller movie. So if you wish to make an exhaustive run of this game, play all the tracks with the hardest difficulty switches settings.

Thanks, fixed. Regardless, there's no point in having 20 branches. It's better to stitch the movies together by running several tracks in a row instead. This movie is accepted as playing the hardest level of the first mode. Making a movie that plays all 10 tracks that way should also be acceptable.

No, I don't think this run deserves rejection for being suboptimal. We make sure the run isn't sloppy and has solid goals, but pushing it to the actual limits is what we encourage the users to do. No run is absolutely unbeatable, and we don't demand being unbeatable in order to accept.

You wait before pressing "s" for the fifth time to manipulate which track you get? Also, since those are 2 different game modes, we can have both of them published even in Vault. So feel free so submit the second one separately.

It's the resolution the game works at... somehow.

After having a look at the manual, difficulty switches are considered fair play, and for a Vault TAS we only need to decide what we prefer, speed or difficulty. Slowing down the player doesn't seem to make it reasonably more difficult to TAS, but just increases the run length, right? And you can't increase the opponent's speed? Sounds like the current run is already fine.

It's not how it works with regular savestate hotkeys (which you can still use for branches). You can select any slot and save to it, while having any of them loaded. Selection here works identically. Selection isn't limited, you can safely select anything you want whenever you want. Limiting Update just to the currently loaded branch sets hard limits that are very hard to work around, and doesn't provide any benefit in my eyes. You just need to get used to how Update works. Also, why is your currently loaded branch not already selected? If you elaborate on your workflow that changes selection from what's supposed to be used, I might come up with some helpers. As for having longer history for branches, it makes sense, but it's a bit harder to implement than having just one Undo step. It's caused by fundamental flaws in how normal history was implemented, so I have to use my own unrelated logic instead, which is quite limited.

Still post the movie made on Expert to userfiles. There's very little info about this game on the internet, so such a demo will help to understand it better.

You haven't seen the branch undo button? And it can't be only for the currently loaded one, because it's not always the one you want to update. And having to load the one you do want to update defeats the purpose of saving what you currently have to another branch.

It's impossible to generalize this for all games. Just find the address and attach this callback to it.

Ah wait. You need a custom lag indicator, for a game whose lack if controller poll on a frame doesn't relate to actual gameplay lag?

Aran Jaeger, I didn't understand anything in your post, but why not just use Lua scripts? If tastudio lacks some functions such a script would need, I can add them.

Yes guys, recently I thought about adding rerecording to dosbox, at least to annoy natt into implementing doshawk one way or another already <_<
