moozooh, you're missing how the Moons tier works. We don't have to fully document every requirement attempting to make the rule perfectly objective. It's not possible. The way to resolve this is to rely on the audience opinion as one of the factors. If the majority of the viewers feel some number of branches has too many similarities, they can be combined, if a solid explanation can be found, that would feel right to the majority of the viewers and to the judges. Sometimes, when there's still ambiguity after such evaluation, staff members can have a dedicated talk about it, which would involve experience of each of them, so that can become the basis for a decision if all other factors betray us. This approach is called case-by-case basis.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

One problem with ACE is that we can't continue outdoing ourselves technically, because, as has been noted lately, there are basically only 2 ways to go ACE: - Streaming AV of arbitrary relevance and with little to no limits - Hacking the game and playing its improved version Both have been done live, the former doesn't even suggest any room for improvements to make it more entertaining anymore. The latter might have some potential, but still needs tons of dedication. ACE means no limit to me. And when there's no limit, it's hard to appreciate the work, because it gets hard to impress. To be impressed, the viewer should understand the limitations and then understand how they are overcome, in a creative and unique way. Boulder race was a great example of combining TAS, real-time play, novelty, and actual human emotions and entertainment. Dunno if something like this can be invented again, so I'd vote for some non-ACE glitchfest, as broken as [1955] SNES Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 "playaround" by SDR, Thevlackdemonn2294 & Dark Noob in 30:28.38.

I only mentioned that as our general judging policy, and to address the idea of considering different region versions different games.

We don't want all PAL versions to be acceptable alongside NTSC versions. If you consider different region versions different games globally, you can't limit the acceptability of PAL (or other regions). We want the movie base that looks as good as we can achieve, quality, not quantity. But we don't want to limit the quantity if quality is high enough. To me, the only way to sanely change the PAL rule is to allow it on the case-by-case basis. Sometimes it will obsolete NTSC, sometimes it will be a new branch, sometimes it will be rejected. Various factors should be weighed in: internal gameplay differences, difference in the TAS content, entertainment value, technical value, audience opinion, maybe some more.

If we consider them different games, that would have to remove the limit entirely. We don't want this thing to lose limits. We want it to improve the movie base.

I'm not making this up, look at the entertainment rating, and at the amount of the raters. I can talk about how good that movie is for hours, but I'd prefer facts to speak instead.

Agreed. But even then, a human performs probably all the same tricks live, so it's not that unique anymore.

Can you, yes you dear reader, think of a run that would be a good fit based on past content already shown at GDQ events and based on length and entertainment? Again, I'm expecting we will not be doing console verification but we will attempt to do so wherever possible

This run is not a major skip thingy? What's basically going on here? Why is it so absurdly short?

Notice the difference in how the boss moves in the second half of the fight in your run and in the older run by Chaos42666, which was also done on the USA version. In the latter, the boss moves the same as in the Japanese version WRs, and probably that's what makes the main difference. Just compare the fight precisely. The key point here is that the difference in the boss fight is not due to the region difference.

How did you enable the colored layout? Also, it'll be very good if for mame-rr submissions you explain the completion requirement.

Is there an explainable reason for not beating RTA? I have not watched either a run or the TAS and I have zero familiarity with the game so I don't know.
I haven't precisely compared why, but it seems the difference is in a better boss pattern. Also, in the RTA he's beaten with only fists, dunno if it makes the difference (still 6 hits).

Watched until The Deep Forest. Even thought the levels looks better than in the RTA, your fight with the first boss takes 3 seconds more than in the RTA. We can't publish runs that fail to beat unassisted records.

We finally sorted out how to do the best aspect ratio correction for youtube. Since now, we are upscaling directly to 2160p (4K) with PointResize(), setting the proper width right away, instead of resizing in 2 passes: 1 for scaling and 1 for ARC. Also the subsampling method for HD has changed from point to lanczos. If point is used, the midcolor artifacts are much more obvious on color edges. With lanczos they are way smoother. The updated package is here: https://github.com/TASVideos/TASEncodingPackage/archive/x64.zip

To add to the hardship here, even if you decide to simply post WIPs and only if no one improves them, submit them, since it's C64, you're gonna end up with no feedback until someone who actually checks comes and beats you. I think this game is worth a tas, but I can't guarantee that I'll find time to check your other iterations on it until it's submitted.

I dunno, just like the old version of the Abobo fight, that scene looked too annoying, so I tried the first thing that came to my mind, and it appeared that you can get past the left enemy if you jump on him, which manipulates him to also jump when he gets up. And that leaves some room for you until he catches up. Since you were already redoing the run, you should have actually reTASed it, as that's what boosts your skills and always reduces the overall time. The current TASVideos optimization standard is to submit when you can not improve your own run anymore even if you try. Or the improvements are really minor and aren't worth it until the next iteration. Improvements like this one, or with Abobo, stand out as obvious to try. I tried to improve other suspicious places too, and due to the subpar game engine, I couldn't. You should be the first and the main person to judge your runs as you make them, and be hungry for anything that looks suboptimal. It's not a basic skill, but if enough effort is invested, it's always better than less effort :D Are you planning to redo this run again?

More importantly, since it's fully based on someone willing to put effort and actually translate a page, we need to reward such people. I suggest the Translator rank. Russian in the one covered best is just because we have a guy who likes to translate pages to Russian. But it also takes a person knowledgeable in TAS to fix everything that a translator might've misunderstood. So it's an effort of at least 2 people, if you want a reliable source of info. Lastly, if more people speaking different languages feel like contributing, we might invent a better way to organize this. But I obviously wouldn't oppose if that happened right now!
