Don't submit without my approval. Maybe I'll have some time to check this week. What's the latest difference from the published run in frames?

AV desync can only be found after it's published. Redoing.

I don't think those races could be done better than what we saw already, and doing the same once again doesn't make much sense. Now it's time when even human players perform something similar real-time, so one shouldn't expect a tas to not evolve. Link to video

You can glitch Volkmire in a way, by going OOB upwards and overflowing your deepth, which leads to death, but that takes more time than legit completion :D

I will have to give other things some care as well.

There's no overlap if we only reduce the list down to the current 4. If we try harder, we start losing unique content. 1p shows unique strats, 2p shows warped shortcuts, 2p warpless shows everything those 2 skip.

Because every time you hit him with a stick, he bounces up by a lot, so you wait him to fall back down after every hit. So the hit intervals last longer, and it takes time to grab the stick. I honestly never tried, probably Phil or FODA did. Their fights are rather well optimized. Which is interesting, because in the last level it's obvious the most: you can't use better hits on enemies than they did, or you will end up getting worse real-time. However, they take more lag by their faster actions, so global timer dependent platforms act unimprovably and can't be manipulated if you rely on their strats in fights, because global timer will equalize your chances (not in your favor). So I ended up making some of those platforms appear later, and some - faster, so not only I optimized actions, but also got ideal global timers, hence such a huge improvement in that level. It was kinda cheap, if we take better optimization for granted. As for categories, I don't think 1p warped needs recovery, since it has copypaste from a warpless run in half of the levels, and it uses some strats from 2p warped, so it's obsolete in both aspects, even if it's faster than the latter due to absence of game over glitch. I think I need to address the skip glitch as well. It's used to its Moon maximum which is "fastest, but not skipping to the game end". I'll add the proper categories.

There's a game Laser Invasion that is unbeatable on hardest difficulty due to how fast the enemies appear and kill you, so it's rare, pub possible that more games like that exist. Also, please unembed this image, or at least resize it in about a half (bbcode tag accepts width).

Since 2012-11-03.

What exactly is the problem in determining vaultability on a case-by-case basis? What exactly is the problem in saying "sport game X is the kind of game that does not fit in vault, but sport game Y is the kind of game that does fit"? You are already judging submissions individually, on a case-by-case basis, so what exactly would be the problem in determining whether the game is of a type that suits for vault, rather than just shoving every single "sport game" under the same category and rejecting all of them regardless of content and game mechanics?
This is probably the second time in history, but I ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY SUPPORT THIS APPROACH the one Warp suggests.

At first I read it as "Bisqwit is gone" and thought the world is shutting down. Phew.

Yeah, it all proves background saving and seeking were a mistake. Taseditor uses progressbar in the main thread somehow, so you can't corrupt stuff. Maybe seeking progressbar is manageable if we fix some stuff, but the saving one definitely needs overhaul or death.

Hm, nothing like this, only tastudio.setbranchtext(). You can also use marker functions.

Phil/Genisto were optimizing movements, but they didn't plan out those platforms at all. Probably because it wasn't possible to debug easily back in the days of fceu 12, or maybe they just didn't have that skill and were relying on straightforward tasing. Anyway, it's only the first 3.5k frames, 9k more to follow.

I FUCKING DID IT!!! 1 frame interval prepared from the beginning of the level! 107 frames ahead in last level alone now! This is gonna be a suggested screenshot. Man I can't believe it happened, miracles exist! More yoku platforms to come though...

Right, this is called resync, it doesn't require redoing the entire run and it's a common practice that might help find improvements. But Dolphin has no lua AFAIK. There's still some movie editor for it.

Are you suggesting that this same run done properly and subsequently encoded appropriately would be published?
Yes, unless I'm utterly retarded and have no idea of how judging works (after judging 347 runs myself). This can be the case, really. The only problem would be syncing the music, so if it magically syncs, a cheat code to pause the music just for encoding is perfectly fine, as long as no codes are used in the original movie. And it would just require creating such a code.

From what I saw, most joke April Fools submissions break the rule of beating the game.

I didn't think about music, good point. But what if a code is used to make it pause, and hence only be used for an alternate encode? Will it desync?

I was thinking about my Demo category proposal and it's imaginary rules that could have been used to accept rule-breaking runs, and... this is what I think. Any mean of adding something unique to the run might make sense to get published, as long as it does add entertainment. The simplest example is using cheats to unlock difficulties. We can't know in advance if some decision will be supported by the audience or not though, so my Demo rules rely on that a lot. However, there should be a limit on being arbitrary. Guidelines advise against "No jumping except where necessary" kinda things. Now, looking and this submission, it is the same case as (for insnance) using a game-genie code (or a code hack) to add Spring Ball to Metroid just because Metroid II has it. Arbitrary? Quite so. Does it add entertainment? Kinda. If the end result is so different from the clean version that it gets high support (like Saturn's GT code run did), it would have publication chances. But personally, I don't see why this particular feature is strictly necessary to make a game more entertaining. Sure, it reduces boring times, but that's basically all it does. For a smoother experience, there's a tradition over here, to cut out those boring parts from an encode. We cut door and elevator transitions out of Metroid series. The author cut weapon swaps and item grabs out of [2621] GC Resident Evil 4 "The Mercenaries: Castle" by Ubercapitalist in 13:44.33. This is perfectly fine, this is the proper way. So IIRC, the only reason to use this code here, is the author's motivation, or rather, lack thereof to TAS this without it. Given all of the above, as in:
  • it can be done the proper way and result in a similar viewer experience without breaking the rules
  • it doesn't add new entertaining content to the run, it only reduces some boring parts, so the viewer support isn't exceptional
  • it is an arbitrary decision
this run would even get rejected by the acceptionist Demo rules.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29966876667818796 When I arrived to this disappearing platform, I was 31 frame ahead. It appeared 30 frames too late. So I had to sacrifice some realtime frames to lag reduction, and now I reach this platform later, but it spanws sooner: 9 frames ahead overall. I doubt it can be improved since if I spawn it even earlier, I won't have time to get there so fast, and it's not about adjusting lag frame by frame, you can only get either a full hit (10 frames), or a stick hit (2 frames). Stick bounces the enemies farther, so you have to run longer to hit them again, that's the reason RTA strat doesn't work in a TAS.
