If it loses time to existing public WIPs it can be proven to be suboptimal. Unless the losses are considered insignificant :) Someone should help and post the losses per act.

Such cases are not critical for us. I was meaning games that primarily do streams instead of generation/synthesis. Link to video

There just must be some definition which games use chiptune (and need default settings) and which use stream audio (and require higher quality).

Thanks! Am I right that line breakers (%%%) are forgotten there?

This movie is reported to start from Reset, while the previous ones of that branch were starting from a snapshot. As I playback 4017S and then try to replay your submission, it fails to load the movie.

Settings for audio stream are taken once again from http://tasvideos.org/EncodingGuide/HybridEncodeScript.html#Commands where they were put by the senior publisher. I agree with using q2 instead of q0.5 which just killed the sound. As for video, my personal settings are even tighter that the ones at the wiki. I use
--merange 64
instead of 24. BTW, back when natt made that edit, it was a standard to encode with
--me umh --merange 64 --subme 10
which then was changed by me to be
--me tesa --merange 24 --subme 11
because that saves a LOT of size.

Blurry?! Not antialiased, yes. Because it is a bitmap font!

My encode (with settings from http://tasvideos.org/EncodingGuide/HybridEncodeScript.html#Commands): Размер потока : 146 Мбайт (73%) Библиотека кодирования : x264 core 124 r2197 69a0443 Настройки программы : cabac=1 / ref=16 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=tesa / subme=11 / psy=1 / psy_rd=1.00:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=64 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=0 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=3 / sliced_threads=0 / nr=0 / decimate=0 / interlaced=0 / bluray_compat=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=16 / b_pyramid=2 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / weightb=1 / open_gop=0 / weightp=2 / keyint=600 / keyint_min=60 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=250 / rc=crf / mbtree=1 / crf=20.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=0 / qpmax=69 / qpstep=4 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00 Saturn's encode (with who knows what settings): Размер потока : 119 Мбайт (75%) Библиотека кодирования : x264 core 44 svn-452 Настройки программы : cabac=1 / ref=16 / deblock=1:-1:-1 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=6 / brdo=1 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=64 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / chroma_qp_offset=0 / slices=1 / nr=0 / bframes=2 / b_pyramid=0 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=2 / wpredb=1 / bime=1 / keyint=250 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40 / rc=2pass / bitrate=230 / ratetol=1.0 / rceq='blurCplx^(1-qComp)' / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30

What does it mean? Thread #13094: FreeSub (custom subtitles plugin by natt)
With better technology 5 years later, 50 MB larger doesn't make much sense...
The exact same settings I used here saved 50 MB from previous SK3 encode, so I have no idea what you are trying to say.

The run is okay, the game is cool, the sound effects make just no sense!

Okay, they should have been put in the beginning of the first level. I'm curious who will reencode all 8 of them now.

It is perfectly possible, but not easy at all. Requires good hacking skill. You may try requesting it in SM thread.

All SM encodes I did had subtitles at the first gameplay room.

So you are telling me that entering the first gameplay room (Ceres it is called?) is an automated cutscene?

I know that V0 is the best/maximum. But what about minimal transparent setting for ogg?

AngerFist used to request HQ encodes with overkilled settings for some TASes: lossless audio and overscaled video. The file size was respective. RGamma was making such encodes for him lately. Today I published Super Metroid with usual 10bit encode, but used q10 ogg audio, just for AngerFiset (regards only the alternate encode). He said that he sees and hears no disadvantage over the usual HQ encodes he requests, just is surprized by the file size. I propose using better audio settings for 10bits, since they already have lossless video, having near-lossless audio is logical. People can resize the encode with pixel filter and see the same lossless video they see in emulator. But audio was always suffering. Why not make it better? The only question is, what setting is the best? Since it is a chiptune, neither lossless, nor q10 are really needed. But what would be the transparent minimum?

All four encodes will have alternate versions.

Under the RTA rules, Any% is the highest category which includes all sorts of allowed glitches, including the invincibility ones.
Under our rules, game breaking glitches are only allowed in a glitched branch, any% can't use them. So if skips and game over abuse are considered game breaking, then any% should avoid both. Just describe what would be needed for a full competion kind of run.

Dump lossy (faster, I recommend x264vfw), reencode lossy if needed.

Don't forget to use lossy compression.

Hmm, then probably we may skip "Glitched" in the branches at all, using no branch for the fastest one, "Impossible" for a run like yours, and "All rooms" for glitchless warpless.

Yes, I'd love to see an improved version of the Impossible run. The thing is, the more you try to optimize scenes, the newer tricks you find, and improve in geometric progression. But I'd still want to figure the rules for possible TAS branches. If Glitched version uses invincibility, any% must avoid it. Skipping rooms will be different in them, so it may be allowed for both. Checkpoint abuse is free for all. What about Warps? I'd allow them as well. That can leave a room for a run beating all rooms.

Frames lost in rooms this movie played through in the same conditions as Kurikinton's WIP: The same tendency was noted for later levels. For example, the birds manipulation in GnG level is WAY worse. The author says later levels were optimized better, but it seems frame comparison was not done at all, and frames were lost in all possible places of level 1 at least. If someone wants to object my claim, please provide the same comparison for later levels. Otherwise, this movie is considered too sloppy for acceptance.
