Entertainment isn't dealt with at all. The point was: Do we really accept LITERALLY ANY game, or still reject the games that provide no room for improving the gameplay? If there's nothing to improve, there's no room for a RECORD. Moving the pointer 50 pixels right and 10 pixels down doesn't provide the gameplay record in my eyes. Are we about following the letter of a motto? Or we still want it to make sense? Either rephrase it then, or accept this run.

What's the dispersion of amount of raters in total? Is there any sort of sats about the most rated runs? We could see the average of those runs and decide the value for such cases and for few rates, seeing WHICH runs attract more raters. But speaking of much raters, sometimes I see the runs that get lower rates than they actually deserve, but there're too many raters, so I can't change the situation with my single "true" rating. There's a problem of people not caring too much (we need to expand the gidelines list of what to pay attention to when rating).

I need to admit that now, when every aspect of the above system was explained, it neither contradicts my own thoughts, nor it is hard to implement and maintain, since only the ENTERTAINMENT rating decides the Entertaining/Unpopular placement. Demo/Playaround are decided by the very goal of the run. Moons/Stars are manual. I already stated a long ago that after creating statistics pages for each tier, we could decide whether the quota is fair. Some ideas about the maintenance. There must be a thread for each tier, linking to:
  • tier descripton
  • statistics page (I suggest having all tiers stats on one separate page),
  • tier log page (separate for each tier, a full history, like the SVN changes pages, shows last 10 changes, but expandable to all).
In the thread people would not only discuss the placement of a certain run, but all related stuff. EDIT: after checking the view options it looks good to me to still allow the platform branching we currently use. Brouse the content as usually, just exclude the stuff you're not interested in ATM. Remember the checkboxes for each user. EDIT 2: the word Records sounds more promising than Speedruns. Replace the word Speedruns with Superplays (for their art value) and it starts working. An oportunity to advertise the word Superplay after all :D

GMan: I've made 2 star-worthy runs, and 2 regular runs. Don't ask the difference of effort and time spent on the first two comparing to other two. Making the run really fantastic contributes MORE to the art. Read here, why we must encourage TASers to put MORE effort and time (also teaching HOW to do it). marzojr: We decided to raise another thread to discuss weight if I got it right. EDIT: after AnS' explanation on semi-autoimatic tiers we really can choose the splitted weighting trick!

Not having watched it I need to ask: You seem to improve the gameplay as well, is it right? I might help too if so.

I thought about what would be the score factor for belonging to tiers. I came up with this: Make Stars double the score from the movie for all authors. For Moons make it 1.5. For Demo and Regular movies - the same, and for Vault - 0.5 (regardless of being rather low already). This way the Vault movies would just fill the content, and showcase movies really fill the score. Do more star/moon movies, get more score.

Starring superb runs can inspire TASers if a star would add score for a run (double it?)

Looking at the pictures I can say that the actual GOAL doesn't necessarily lead to a star or a moon. The most esoteric of all sane goals for SM - Reverse Boss Order - provides the MOST IMPOSSIBLE result of all gameplay SM goals (the Glitched goal is another matter). And many people think a star shall be moved to SM RBO. Also, technical merit of the run is not the same as how speed-oriented it is. It's about how much EFFORT was put into it in ALL tech aspects, pace is mostly an entertainment vaule. Good Playarounds aren't just hard to invent entertainment-wise, they are also tough to implement technically. Needless to say a Playaround, belonging to Superplay tier according to your pics, may be perfectly star-worthy. I'm surprised so many people keep refering to Speedrun/Superplay devision which is the most esoteric idea to apply to TASVideos I can think of. PS: will read more carefully now.
EDIT: I've read the ideas. You guys seem to forget what stars actually are intended to mean: Wiki: StarmanGuidelines Thread #12998: Request for Starmen Showing THEMOSTAWESOMEWOWSUPERB!!!11 (Stars) runs we show the face of TASing. Setting Moons we hint users what to watch after they got the idea, the movies that are still impressive overall. Regular movies are pretty solid, but have some snags that destroy the impression the good sides of a game create. Vault - movies just for the sake of appearance. Demo - esoteric goals, notable achievements still not blowing entertainment-wise, probably Glitched btranches. My system is all about the overall look and the merit the movie showcases the TAS art. Say, how much is a movie star-worthy, with several gradations of the answer. EDIT 2: The guidelines say we must choose only one game from a franchise if all of them are rather similar and perfected. But what tier to put the other candidates from the same franchise? Moons? Then we would still have Moons filled with Sonics and Marios. EDIT 3: To solve the above problem we need to IGNORE ratings of the other franchise mates of a starred run. Mooning them is still abusive for me. It's only possible if those runs feature different TAS aspects, one being more impressive than the other - then they may have a star and a moon within a franchise per platform. Or if the runs are really of different types. And if the neighbour game run isn't that unique, it must remain in Regular tier, even though having 8+ ratings. Also suggestion: Starring superb runs can inspire TASers if a star would add score for a run (double it?)

Okay, some gamebreaking runs deserve starts, some deserve moons, some deserve oblivion. Also, remember, I was suggesting having a thread for forced moves between tiers if the audience requests.

Well, for me neither of RPGs is interesting at all, but that's just me. Also, you linked only one "Glitched" run. If all Glitched runs go to Demo, I see no problem in their main branches going to Vault.

We already discussed Demo/Vault borderline.

A gamebreaking run CAN NOT go to vault because it is still awesome, a moon-worthy for me. It's also a solid tech achievement. So yes, maybe gamebreaking runs must go to Demo instead of moons.

I'm strictly against separating in speedrun/superplay fashion. Because that means the GOAL would lead to a tier, which is weird. Only HOW AWESOME is the movie oerall must matter. Be it a glitched run, a 100% run, or any%. Boring result = welcome to vault. Ratings can help us decide whether it is a vault movie. Stars and moons are at all manually assigned if I got it right. Demos are the only thing that may be judged by goal (perverted goals, almost rule breakers that are still entertaining, etc). And the rest runs should remain regular.

You guys are freaking INSANE EDIT: Your second player gets #$F5 to his high Z byte, he dies and spawns 3 balls, which fill 3 object slots, allowing to proceed to slot 12 faster, where object 81/82 must be created. How to run into game over / game end routine by wish is still unknown.

Let's leave Glitched runs on their own, their ENTERTAINMENT value is still very high. But after all... why not? :P

Well, it must be notable by something. But personally I don't see a problemwith minigames and stuff. The point was to place deadly boring but still very notable runs to a better place than drowning them in vault.

Did I forget to mention it's for Demo tier? Anything arbitrary may potentially go there, we just need to set the border between this and rejection.

I think the tier (at least for vault) must be decided by a judge as he accepts the movie. And the future placing must depend on rating: whether it is a vault movie or a regular one (moons/stars are still assigned by trained monkeys starmen). So we seem to need a rating borderline to consider movies vault worthy (6.0?). Also, for each tier we may have a thread for complaints and suggestions, moving the run here or there if the audience disagrees with the current placing. That is: at the moment of publication, place the run to a certain tier, then allow it to navigate on its own, then if people ask, sticky it to some tier. And I have some suggestion on how to improve the validity of ratings, as in, true weighting. Entertainment: for anyone above lurker or newbie, must be waighted as 1.0. Anyone can have a good taste on entertainment, net depending on anything at all. We just need to make sure it's not a troll. But making 5 posts isn't enough to be considered non-abusive, so I suggest weight newbies' votes as 0.5 or so. Probably, 0.3 for lurkers, 0.6 for newbies and 1.0 for the rest. Technical: we need to be sure you understand the aspects of tasing to weight the ratings you give well. Let's take the average rating as a factor (both entertainment and technical rating the rater himself has) - but that's for tasers! And for non-tasers we can choose something different as a factor. I keep suggesting rating posts themselves (+/-). For forum members it might also be a rank factor. We shall invent something to keep the average post rating of a person within 0.0-1.0 to match the factor the tasers would have. For example, mklip's posts are so helpful his rating would be extremely solid. Actually, rating the posts would help us to make sure the person is sane. Probably, tasers may have 1.0 + average reting. I dunno. You say how you feel about improving the weighting system.
