After watching AGDQ and seeing TASes get some representation, I decided to come back here for the first time in years just to see what's going on... and then one of the most recently posted in NES threads is this, which is the game that got me into TASing originally. I'm probably too out of touch with techniques and stuff to really offer improvements or suggestions for that WIP but I'm definitely anticipating more of them and/or the completed run. I commend you for being able to put up with all the lag.

Fly with the lakitu cloud up to the end. It's way easier. You can also jump from the help block, onto a bullet bill, to the end.

From what I understood, you simply counted how many buttons were pressed on each frame, and added them all up. Holding a button for 5 frames would be 5 presses, holding 2 buttons for 5 frames would be 10, etc.

Ack, the computer with the rom on it died and had to have a memory wipe, and I forgot totally about the run I was planning to do. If anyone feels like doing it, they can, but I'll probably continue it eventually. Sorry.

I just noticed a mention of two-player. Does an additional super-speed powerup appear with two people, or does one person just end up faster than the other? And what happens if one player doesn't keep up? Does it lock the screen or does it just scroll without them?

Maximal changes would be pretty pointless, just auto-fire a button that has nothing to do with gameplay for a change every frame.

http://Kirbymuncher.googlepages.com/ikariwarrior2.fcm Here's another try at the first level, about 30 seconds faster. This time I do actually pick up the knife, along with getting the heart. Now for another question. Should I shoot everything like crazy for points, or just leave most enemies and only shoot the ones I need to?

So the heart lets you keep all your power-ups, such as super-speed, in the next level? If that's the case, I'm definitely getting it. And I tried getting the knife, but it didn't seem to do anything. I was still killed when I tried to walk into enemies.

If someone made that, I'd definitely use it for a screensaver. It would be so awesome.

I figured that could be the case, that's why I didn't just spend a lot of time optimizing and completing the entire game. I'll get a few more opinions, though.

I tried it, but I haven't played Dr. Mario in somewhere around 7 years. I got to level 8 (Yeah, I suck) on medium speed before dying. I doubt you'd want to watch it, although I did record it, since there were only two really impressive things (both accidental) and a lot of really stupid stuff involving digging myself back out again and again. Nothing ever flips properly, so I put so much stuff in the wrong spots. It took 28 minutes just for 8 levels.

I searched a bit and didn't find any topics on this game, I was just wondering if anyone thinks it would make a very good TAS. The game moves pretty slowly, but some parts have enough enemies to keep it interesting, at least to me. Not to mention it's basically impossible to play normally so it's more impressive. If anyone's interested, I've got a TAS (Although pretty unoptimized) of the first level, mostly just to show somewhat how the TAS would look.

My biggest language bug thing is when people mix up lend and borrow.

Starting a level on a staircase should be faster by a couple frames, but I'm not sure, that's just what I think it would be. Why don't you run it?

No worries, I haven't quite started yet. In the next 4 days of school, I've got 3 projects due and a test, so I don't have that much spare time. Here's some questions: Mega Punch, Mega Kick, both, or neither? Do you think a lucky egg on chansey would be helpful? And would picking up the quick claw in the safari zone help or will I already be overlevelled enough?

So what pokemon can be caught on island three? Any major list edits, or is it mostly just pokemon you've already seen on the mainland?

That post actually kind of makes me want to start TASing again just so I can do this run. The problem is some of the main tricks used in the sapphire run are out of the way. Quick Claw is in the safari zone, I think, and Facade is on one of the islands, which means I can't get it. And here's the party then, if I follow that list. 1. Squirtle 2. Pidgey 3. Ratata 4. Pikachu 5. Butterfree 6. Beedrill Squirtle gets Surf, Raichu gets Strength and Rock Smash, Pidgey gets Fly, Rattata gets Cut, and I suppose Squirtle gets Waterfall too if it's needed. So what nature would be good for Squirtle? And is Leafgreen really that much better than Firered?

I personally think you should get a plant type pokemon for bullet seed, it's really awesome. 5 hits in one turn, very good range, and it's pretty strong? You shouldn't miss it.

Sometimes you don't realize how bad you are at a game until you try and speedrun it.

Yeah, they don't seem like they practiced or prepared or anything, they make a bunch of really dumb errors and just generally miss a lot of stuff that could have been much better. I wonder what speedruns they watched.

I've done this alot as well, I've also had times walking through stores and thinking "That wasn't the most optimized route, mabe I should undo it and try again".

The is day it's possible to have the game think you are on the ground when you are just in the air, is the day your dream will come true. :P
Wouldn't that let you levitate by just jumping as much as you want?
