Hmm, I don't remember what's the requirements for this game to have the best ending. I noticed that in your movie, the last two portraits in the staff scroll were totally blank (and I wonder how to fullfill them). So you only got a good ending, but not the best.

So you are saying that RAM Watch doesn't support non-4-byte-margined watch. BTW, I'm afraid that none of the DeSmuME team members are reading this thread... We need to forward reports to the project's tracker, I guess.

Yes, I am testing every enemy. My testing was clearly flawed, but testing every enemy is the responsible thing to do. Hellish is irrelevant. I thought this is how much work TASing a platformer was supposed to be?
For any platformer in which you have multiple long-term weapon strategies to choose from, you are supposed to test lots of enemies, but not all of them.

arukAdo - It's not going to be an art thing. I think "sacrifices frames for entertainment" is more of a special occasion thing, like getting the boss medal or the Book of Secrets. I never intended to sacrifice frames on each enemy to make it look smooth. It was more of a question of what you (specifically you, Atma, and the rest of the audience) want to see out of this run. If I didn't care what you thought, I wouldn't ask.
How often do you need to sacrifices frames for boss medals?

I'm not trying to excuse the way I handled certain enemies. There are definite mistakes there. I'm trying to say that if I do it again, that it'll be for a good reason. Now if I'm wrong twice then I'm probably just a shitty TASer or something. But I also don't want to "fix" the mistakes that you pointed out by doing something different in my next version. Doing something different just to impress you with "look! I improved!" is wrong too. What if I come back with good proof that level 2 really is faster? I don't expect that I will. Just saying.
Wow, you are truely a TASer! Just keep going on!

斩妖伏魔录 (1?) doesn't have a proper ending... It's confusing. Its developer has made another similar game named 猎魔人 (Demon Hunter), while 斩妖伏魔录 seems to be its sequel, according to the naming of their save files and a few sites. 斩妖伏魔录 Tips: Weapon enhancements (on Lv3/6/9): * +5% thing: recover your HP by 5% of dealt damage * +100% thing 1 (sword icon): weapon damage (not adding the character's basical damage) +100% * +100% thing 2 (?): special attack damage +100% (not working for all weapons...) * +250% thing: weapon damage +250% when low on HP * +300% thing: critical damage +300% * -30% thing: received damage -30% Effects of enhancements in the same categories are accumulated, while effects of those in different categories are multiplied (if activated). Lances have insanely high critical rate.

The avarage length of published movies is around 24 minutes. This movie is just a little shorter than the average. It can have excuse for not being redone. Yes.

Yes. It doesn't seem to be optimal, but we can let it slip away from that stupid grue.

Things that came into mind: * Rewind settings: it shouldn't cause a problem, but worth checking if enabled. * Pixel Filter settings: same as above. * VSync: reportedly causing slowdown in some cases. * Rendering Method: I have no idea, honestly, but someone reported it caused slowdowns on an very old machine with D3D. ** Simply removing the old configuration file may work. * AMD Dual-Core Patch: yeah, only for WinXP, Vista shouldn't need it. You didn't install it, did you? [/silly question] BTW, you may feel like checking out the latest build of VBA-rr, it should be r85 right now.

The emulator's timing is accurate by no means. It generates ridiculous amount of lags which don't exist on the real hardware at all. PoR is my favourite Castlevania game ever - actually, I bought my DS Lite simply for it. Glitch-holic as I am, I could enjoy this broken movie an have it as one of my favourites, if only the author didn't forget those who had helped him. *sigh* Yes vote. EDIT: LOL

It looks like that the graphic output is the main cause of slowdown. I see (88%) in the window title while the FPS is merely 13 / 55 (why not 60?) when emulating Castlevania PoR.

I won't violate the rules here, so just try googling "秦殇 千年轮回" (I don't know how to translate it...), the name of the game (in simplified Chinese, UTF-8?). Don't bother with those stupid forums though. The story is totally non-sense. I don't feel like viewing it at all. And that's exactly how I ignored the charging message back then. EDIT: Glitches: * Random freeze (can be the emulator's fault). * BGM gone after menu operation. * In a in-game scene, "Skip" (on the upper-right corner) doesn't skip the dialogues (it skips action part instead). * Can reveal areas where you haven't arrive on the "castle map" (unsure how). * Can get items without touching them (try that one over a doorway too high to jump up). * Graphical error while turning around and swinging some sword as soon as you level up. * And blah etc. EDIT 2: Wow, the other one, "斩妖伏魔录" (no idea again...) is really awesome! Too bad that they just failed to put more efforts into it to make it better without violating Castlevania's copyrights. (Sigh)

What about rotating the graphics, so that the viewers can rotate their monitors? Well... never mind. It's already suggested before.

I made a few small rough tests (my PC is just too slow for massive tests), and I think that the pattern is deterministical. That is to say, if x changes into y once, then x will change into y always. I could be wrong, though. EDIT: The lowest byte is always ignored and thus won't affect the next value.

Neither is true, only way to make the RNG advance is to kill an ennemy that drop something (killing an "empty" doesnt seem to advance it) I tryed also to wait for thousand of frames (no joke), it wont advance... Still, its pretty certain youll see a lot of people complaining i took a "suboptimal" route, while its nearly impossible to get that idiot sword
However, there can be still a chance if you farm other easy enemies in advance, right? EDIT: Someone can crack the code to figure out how the PRNG for itemdrops works. That can be very helpful in this case.

I'm using MHS 4.0.0.13 searching for some hexadecimal values. However, I simply failed to figure out how to do it. For example, I tried to type the hexadecimal 2ec123 as "0x2ec123", "x2ec123", "0x002ec123", "x002ec123", "2ec123x", "2ec123h" and so on in the "Value to Find" box, but all were rejected as "invalid data". Is it that MHS 4.0.0.13 simply doesn't support searching for hexadecimal values, or I missed something?

Well, RNG in PoR = 020F627C, hexadecimal, 4-byte. Good luck trying to manipulate it. I didn't test too deeply, but it only changes when you kill an enemy that drops something. Destructible objects and basic enemies like bats and bone archers don't change it.
Really? That would be lame for a TAS.

Yeah, but it takes a good while to get a succubus soul, as they are not encountered before the pinacle.
