Well that sure was unexpected. And confusing. At some point during the credits, I was wondering if we were back in April :P

Not as bad as I would have expected. I vote that it should be accepted in the vault

Not gonna lie, I was not expecting much from the TAS, but from what I've seen of it so far, it's really interesting to watch :)

That's a yes for me. Although, my vote is strongly impacted by the fact that it was the first time I saw a DK Jr. TAS. I do think that if it was to be remade, it should include 3 and Math, but it could stand as is.

Omg that wall of text. Well, at least now I get why the submission was a bit longer to come :P As for the screenshot, either the one in the submission text or this one: With how many people spent time trying to reach that damn island...

while I like the run idea, if you go as a no power up run its a no mainly since Yoshi is considered a power up in this game [...] plus the Yoshi issue at least for me its an issue
I'm actually with supersonicjc on this one. I consider Yoshi as a power up. That being said, it was an OK run. The version did not bother me, especially once I was told that it was running at 60. If I might just add just one small thing that "Spikestuff" did not point out: In 8-7, is there something to do with the coins? I know it's a bit strange to point it out, but it could be nice to take all of them/none of them (or alternating) while you're on the coaster. Although, if it'd be the only thing, I would have voted yes.

I'm finalizing submission text and the encode. Also, Micro500 is working on console verification. I could have submitted a couple weeks ago but I'm being a bit of a perfectionist and also don't have a lot of free time st the moment.
I would propose myself to read you over with all the streams that I caught, but there are some people in the MK64 community that would be better than me at that :)

100% is already routed well enough. I don't know where you got that route from, since it's outdated and suboptimal. If you're interested to see how the current route looks like, I suggest watching some of the more recent RTA runs. The TAS will probably not change too many things about that route.
I have not watched those speedrun for a few months, but unless there is now a better way to catch it (or a faster route have been found), the warp from Hot Top Volcano to Haunted Woods can be pretty useful in a TAS

Useful for GP (and Time Trials if possible?) (video)
Weatherton did some test on stream and so far with a shell you can't land on the stand (you can get to it but you fall back down before gaining control on your character) As for Time Trials, I would really like to hear your idea. Not saying it's impossible but I don't really see how you would get up there. Although since we're talking about this course, might as well link two theoretical videos Link to video Link to video Starting from the known shortcut but cutting it a lot sharper could be a good idea.

Ok, I'm not gonna talk about if I think the game should be on the site or not but rather the run itself. I find interesting the video you linked. In theory, could there be a way to get this exact board and saves a few frames? Like taking a frame more on the screen before. Because you wouldn't have to move down to click on the square. Only theoretical mind you. Voting "meh" for a vault video.

If I wasn't so bad at using the ram watch I would probably try it out. I'd love to see a TAS/WIP of this game.

Is that really all the game? If so, how much was it worth when it got out?

My short answer is "yes". Although, it's Super Mario 64 so it can't end there, can it. This should not replace the "70 stars, no BLJ" run currently on the website. Here's quickly how I see the categories:
  • any% (0 star)
  • 100% (120 stars)
  • no BLJ (this TAS
  • No level early / no glitches (not sure about the exact name yet, but the current
  • BLJless would go here
Then again, I was happy to see that last 16 stars submission and would have made it a category since a lot of speed-runners do it, but well.

I expected people to be more one-sided than that. I can see the point of wanting more superplays in those kind of game, but I really liked what you did. It's a clear yes vote for me

Why does the 100% is discussed again?
I'm sorry that's my fault. I didn't expect to break the thread. Although, now I get why there's so many pages.

That's not entirely true. There are times when TAS definitions become the sole run definition that RTA follows for their runs.
Wait, really? I'm not saying that you're wrong, but do you have an example? I'm intrigue by the idea.

You always have the option of skipping half the sword trading sequence, if you prefer to buy and break the giant's knife, which makes a good case for not requiring all possible trade slot items.
Yeah, you're right. I didn't even think about the fact that the giant's knife could be consider as a intermediate version and should be gotten in 100% if we go with the idea of getting every weaker upgrades.

The extra heart pieces should not be collected. As far as i know, they are not even intended to be collectable, and they should not replace a heart piece that was.
They aren't intended. You need glitches to get to them. I still stand by what I said previously but as of now it wouldn't save any time in a TAS with the current RTA route.

(with the possible exception of allowing RBA at some points, like i mentioned in my previous post)
I don't know how I feel about RBA... I guess since I would consider OK skipping half the Biggoron Sword trade sequence I would be OK with the fact of using RBA for ammo and stuff.

So to add to that definition, all upgrades are required, including the intermediate (e.g. silver scale). All compasses, keys and maps should be collected. The cow should be collected. All heart pieces, including the extra ones in gerudo and the graveyard. Buying all beans.
Are you talking about boss keys or every normal keys? Also, as for the extra heart pieces, I don't consider them in the 100%. I get the question about the intermediates upgrades, compasses and even the cow to an extent, but the heart pieces that aren't meant to be there should be required in the definition. I would even push it further and consider that they could technically replace another one of the "normal" ones. As a side note, Tompa is totally right and you need to have Epona. To my knowledge, nobody found a way to skip that requirement, but if there was I would think skipping Epona would be for the best if it saves time.

I've been fooling around lately on OoT and a question popped in my mind: if there's a 100% TAS someday, would ZeldaSpeedRuns' definition be good or would it need to take every item (things like Goron's bracelet or the maps). I don't pretend like I would ever be able to do it, even less alone. Here's the rules I'm referring to:
ZeldaSpeedRuns wrote:
Obtain 20 Hearts* Learn all songs Collect all 100 Golden Skulltulas** Obtain Double Defense and Double Magic Obtain the Gerudo Card and Stone of Agony Obtain the Giant's Wallet Obtain all items on the Item Select subscreen (Eg. Din's Fire, Boomerang)***. Obtain all equipment on the Equipment subscreen (Eg. Goron Tunic, Hover Boots, Golden Scale)*** Obtain all Spiritual Stones and Medallions (Eg. Zora's Sapphire, Shadow Medallion) Complete the game (reach the credits) Other notes: RBA/BA is banned Timing ends on last hit on Ganon Maps, Compasses, and Boss Keys are not required Ganon's Castle trials are not required Obtaining the cow in Link's house is not required Buying or planting all Magic Beans is not required Duping a bottle over an item is allowed, but your final inventory must be complete *: You may not collect any heart piece more than once. You may not obtain the extra heart piece in Gerudo Fortress as child or the extra heart piece in Kakariko Graveyard. **: You may not collect any Golden Skulltula token more than once. *** Only highest upgrades are required for the following items. (Eg. Golden Scale, Golden Gauntlets, Longshot)
Since people are already using this for RTA I don't see why we wouldn't in TAS, but I'd like someone else opinion on this.

They are pretty useless. I know that in the all levels speedrun there are some cases where you need some of the medals to unlock levels but for the any%, unless there's an exception that I'm not thinking about, they just take time to count at the end. You should take a look at the WR :) Link to video
