Nice improvement! This new boss-fighting method looks like what I would expect from a dumb caveman, swing fast and furious until the enemy dies. The water stage also looks a lot smoother without the awkward ledge-pulls near the end. One minor complaint: you didn't chase out the vampire boss in the way I suggested for adelikat's currently published run in its discussion thread :/ Also, I know that the glitching of the future stage's elevator saves tons of time, but I've sort of missed seeing speedruns play through that area. It's so much harder platforming than the whole rest of the game, and I remember having a lot of trouble with it playing this game when I was much younger.

This was a fun watch, but I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed by the graphics. I guess I wanted this demon character hero to have a bigger sprite, making the attacks more impressive-looking. He's only half the size of Zenki (from some other run on TASVideos featuring a demon hero). Oddly enough, I actually found the green form to be one of the more interesting ones to watch. His teleportation seemed cooler than the flying of the blue form. Maybe I'm just totally backwards in what I like about this game.

Good job! I think this choice of goal makes sense, as a good speed-entertainment tradeoff. The most impressive parts are when you shoot a few shots at once before the enemies appear on screen. This also seems like a better run from a technical standpoint than your first submission. I'm a little concerned, though, about some of the missed shots you do. I'm fine with them in the boss fights as a way of creating some distraction (like the Lobster fight), but I think it looks sort of bad in the bonus games. Do you need to miss shots to manipulate the enemies in the bonus games?

I mostly agree with Samsara here. Good improvement; the fighting feels a lot more fluid. The game still isn't that interesting to me, though I'm giving it a Meh. Part of this is also because you have fewer antics between the players at downtimes, and you never got to show off the move where you bash two enemies' heads together. On another note, I think I saw Bullova keel over or fall down on a couple occasions, but there was no damage shown on the lifebar. How does that work? Screenshot suggestion: the pose at the end of Stage 2.

Given how repetitive of a game this is, I wasn't expecting that much entertainment, especially based on the previous run. However, your style choices of how to move the rod were superb. Like xy2, I really like the parts which make the rod behave like a bouncing or rolling ball. Great use of entertainment in places that don't cost you any time. I'm still not sure the game has quite enough going for it to earn my Yes vote, but I'll give you a good Meh.

WarHippy, are you talking about the published run's text at 3174M.html? It doesn't look like you're an Editor at this site, or you could change that text yourself. However, if you want to let us know what the text should be, any Editor on the site can change that for you. That being said, I looked at the blurb, and I don't see any reference to Magus or a mention of being the first run. That blurb is largely similar to the one for the first published run of the game, but that doesn't seem to be what you're commenting on. Has the issue already been fixed? (I also didn't see the issue in an old version of the text.) EDIT: Got it, it's been fixed. Somehow I was incorrectly viewing an old version of the file. Thanks, feos.

Alright, I finally got around to watching this. I am not really familiar with the N64 version of the game, so I can't compare the two runs. From what I could vaguely tell, the movement is pretty precise here. As you've pointed out, you could shave a few frames, but you haven't missed any major route change or large mistake. This seems to be a fairly clean adventure game. I'm a little disappointed there wasn't any glitch showcasing here; that's part of what makes other adventure game runs like Maniac Mansion or Shadowgate more interesting for the casual viewer. There's a lot of repetition of going back to the same areas a bunch. I also feel like, compared to many other adventure runs, you don't really do as many fun actions: you don't pass by mini-bosses much or get many zany actions as you would expect from Scooby Doo. I'm going to go with a Meh vote leaning towards No. It's not a bad run by any means, but the game has a tendency to get monotonous.

Wow, 10 years already! Great job with the improvement. It's incredible how many fights are one-rounded by Taloon, and yet he claims to have trouble with the powerful monsters when you first meet him in Chapter 5. In the provided encode link, there's a related video link for a run on the JP version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-48cIz5DQY That run has a finish time of around 1:52:30, which is 5.5 minutes faster than this one. Is that only due to language differences in the text boxes?

Thank you, Lars_Hendrick, for the encode! That made this movie much easier to watch. First of all, as much as I have liked Osman runs recently, I'm a little confused by the purpose of this run. It seems like it's trying to replace the purpose of the max-score run as a way to show off more of the game. This run shows off some glitches, such as the HP exploit on Slaver, which the max-score run doesn't do. I do appreciate the extra move variety, where I can appreciate the wrestling and backdrops done on enemies. (The divebomb of Herio in the refight was especially cool, for instance.) One thing that got on my nerves, though, is that you have a few places where it looks like you play around for a while without really demonstrating much novelty. The first stage is great, but then you fool around during the bossfight by going off to the upper-right corner where there seems to be nothing major to show off. In the second stage, you manage to get to the left of some vehicle, in a way that you're not supposed to do, but then you hang out there a while for no real apparent reason. In that jungle-like area, before you fight Cannons, you seem to loop through the stage a couple times. All in all, I do enjoy this movie, and I voted Yes. But I feel like the run could benefit from a more cohesive plan for showing off combos or glitches that keeps things fresh the whole way through. Maybe you had that plan in mind, but it doesn't seem apparent that way for an inexperienced eye.

Birth: you're running a 3D game, which tends to have very nontrivial physics optimization. Given that this is also your first TAS submission, that's mainly why the 10-hour estimate seems a little strange. TAS optimization can take a lot of time even compared to RTA work, especially with memory watching. EDIT: Oops, this is GBC, not N64. Scratch what I said about 3D, I think. Then again, as the RTA record holder, you already know the game really well, so that helps too! Someone researching the game from scratch would take a lot longer. I haven't seen the run yet, since I'd need an encode on my system. Regardless, congrats on your submission, and welcome to the site!

I never noticed this game before in the submissions; I must not have been paying attention. This run is not bad though! The game moves fluidly enough, and it looks pretty easy. If it had more than one music theme during the stages, it would be a much better game. The frequent cutscenes with the old white dude also don't help. Something feels really wrong when a large part of the optimization comes from speeding up RNG-dependent cutscenes. I vote Meh.

Spikestuff: Could 9:28 be referring to in-game time, if such a concept exists for this game? V: Thanks for the responses. I was most concerned about the boss fights, but I think you've clarified enough.

Pretty neat run. It is a bit more polished of a game in the Arcade version, compared to some of the Genesis games. I see now how the end boss of Alex Kidd in Shinobi World is styled like this game's final boss. (Also, on the subject of the ending, "TAS" might be a more appropriate name for the high-score list. I don't personally mind what you used, but I forget if there are any judging restrictions based on... less-polite words.) ;) I do have a few questions and comments though. 1. How do you avoid dying on the third boss when you walk through all the heads (or whatever they are)? You sound like you get hit a lot there. 2. There's one very laggy section in Mission 4 with a big gang of ninjas hopping behind you. Would it save time to turn around briefly and kill a few before moving on, to reduce lag? 3. In bosses 1, 2, and 4, you mainly keep throwing jumping shurikens. Can you save any time by jumping closer to the boss between attacks? That way, you get sort of a Doppler effect where each shot takes less time to connect. (It also seems like you can hit boss 2 a little earlier than you do as it's coming down).

Reeve: The new zips involve going upwards, through the floor. A zip in stage 2 where you mention would require zipping sideways. I'm not sure that would work, but maybe Arc can say more about this.

This is a surprisingly great platformer, with a lot of variety. I don't know the old run well enough to notice big changes between the runs, but good job saving so much time.

Holy crap, that was an awesome unexpected change. Ironically, the lack of enemies in Stage 5 (along with the unavoidable platform wait) makes that stage less interesting, but Stage 6 makes up for it. The boosts there are great, along with the tense moments of dodging red gargoyles afterward.

Nice job! I'm surprised Cody is a better choice... isn't Haggar supposed to do more damage to enemies? As a screenshot suggestion, there's one point in Stage 4 where Cody is punching guys while his foot is inside the flames coming out of the floor. That looks pretty badass (and shows a nice abuse of collision detection). Also, somebody should make a reaction .gif of the guy at the end of the car bonus game who goes "Oh My God".

Wow, crazy improvement at the end with the health overflow. I wasn't bothered by the death to get more bombs; that death actually looked pretty funny in the place you did it. Great run. Do you plan on improving the max-score run with these new findings? I figure you wouldn't be able to glitch Slaver in that run, so there would be a lot less improvement.

I'm actually moderately amused by this. I wouldn't watch it again, but it had bits that made me chuckle on one watch. For instance, I'm amazed the collision detection is pretty much nonexistent in the vehicle autoscrollers. (I do wish you had managed to move to the music at one point there.) It's actually strangely funny how incredibly easy the puzzles are, like that basket minigame where you see the critter's feet. And I think this should qualify for Vault since people have, in fact, competed for the WR time on it. Good job on a pretty bad game, CatlyNat. I'm not voting Yes, but I will vote Meh; the game does entertain well enough for its intended purpose.

Thanks for the encode, caitsith2! This game is a lot more watchable than the first Joe & Mac. There still isn't a ton of gameplay variety shown, but the run looks smooth. I actually like seeing the brief pauses for luck manipulation, like it demystifies what a TASer does.

Great job again! I really liked the map display in one encode. The occasional stabs during some downtime (especially E3L2) were awesome as well.

Wow, amazing work. This pause glitch manages to skip the boring parts while still keeping a lot of the interesting action intact, as well as providing some amusing glitched graphics in the Janken matches. It's a bit of a shame the castles are skipped, since they were the most interesting parts for me in the last run, but the craziness in the princess room made it totally worth it.

Nice improvement, but my feeling on the run is about the same as AKheon. This game would certainly be more interesting if it used more than one music theme, or if it at least changed the music during boss fights. (However, I'm not sure any other port of this game would be particularly more interesting.) Out of curiosity, how do you decide on your choices of weapons?

Wow! I had been fairly excited about this, but I didn't have anything to comment in the forums during its development. I'm very glad to see how smoothly this came out. I also see you mostly stayed away from doing charge attacks right before boss fade-outs: does that help reduce lag? All of Stage 4 was incredible, and the music playaround in 5-2 totally made my day. Thank you for making this (and its encode).

I'm really amused at how all the different versions of this game have slightly different glitches and strategies. This new 1-1 strat is awesome. Nice going, Masterjun and vince1919!
