Given that I'm not a TASer, I don't recall stating I thought this would be easy to obsolete. I did say it would be interesting though... and thanks again for giving me some inspirational credit! I can't watch this yet, but I'll try to get to it pretty soon. EDIT: Watched it. Donald now runs around like a caffeinated duck on steroids. The repeated whoosh noise is a little annoying (especially in Transylvania, since that has my favorite music in the game and it's now partially covered up why the whooshing). However, the extra skips, midair jumps, and avoiding the lagfest from breaking ice blocks all lead to a clear Yes vote. I'm also a fan of some of your entertainment choices, like the wiggle dances hanging onto the birds and how you fool around at a couple bosses. Congratulations on getting another incredibly surprising large improvement! One last question though: is it possible to save time in Mexico's temple by dying after getting the red plunger?

I'm a little surprised to see that Toad doesn't run faster in this game version when he picks up an enemy. That really changes the strategies. There's quite a lot going on even in stage 1-1 that I wasn't expecting. You did a good job with making Birdo and Wart entertaining without losing time as well. I still hate their voice effects, but it wasn't enough to spoil the run.

Feos: The spiky ceiling in Stage 4 doesn't actually damage you. However, it does knock you down to the ground. The most damaging moves in the game, the Hyper Uppercut and the Flying Knee, can only be done when the player is crouching, and the only two ways to get into crouching mode are to either land from a jump or rise from a knockdown. In a two-player run, the ceiling abuse is still there, but it's less noticeable because the two players can get to the enemies sooner. (Also, one can attack while the other hits the ceiling to prepare a crouch move.)

It wouldn't surprise me if this is an old run that just wasn't submitted before, especially if xipo thought it wouldn't be accepted under the old movie judging guidelines. In any case, I'm glad to see your work back in the submission queue, xipo! I hadn't seen a 1p run on this in a while, and some strategies were surprising. I especially liked seeing more variety of moves in Stage 1 (more use of the Hyper Uppercut) and how you fought the second boss. This isn't as entertaining as the 2p run, but I still like this enough to vote a weak Yes on this.

Hmm... I don't know what to say about this one. First, as I mentioned earlier, I like this run. It's good to see Ninja Gaiden 3 get an improvement after a few years. However, can we get any more specific information about what timesavers would be possible in the harder (U) version? For instance, if the new strategies on Bosses 3 and 5 can be done on the (U) version, then it sounds like the best plan here is to attempt a run on the (U) version. Another option would be to publish this for now, but allow it to be obsoleted later by a run on the (U) version of similar quality. That might be a little confusing though. One last option is to link this submission from the US run, like we've done with goals like the 16-star run in SMB64.

Sorry I didn't get to comment on this movie before publication. I'm impressed to see how many times you've revisited this movie, janus! It's an entertaining RPG, and you saved roughly 2 minutes, which is a big deal.

Thank you for the comparison encode, Bernka! Rum, nice job improving one of my favorite runs on this site. I think you were a little less entertaining in 2-2C's autoscroller, but everything else was really interesting. The third and fifth bosses were especially good.

Great job with this! Levels 7 and 8 were especially interesting. I like how you showed off several different weapons in Stage 8 for variety, and the purple enemy at the end was funny. (I don't know if I like the death there though. ..) Why do you get the Spread gun in Area 6 instead of the machinegun? Doesn't S give the bosses more health? Bernka: It seems the glitch should still work with two players, since two players can still abuse screen-scrolling bugs. I think it was said 2-players is going to be faster than 1-player. (Bosses have the same health for 2p as for 1p, and Stage 5 really benefits from multiple suicides in 2p mode.)

Great publication screenshot! It didn't seem that nifty at first, and then I noticed the line of thrown rocks between Harry and the boss. :-)

I didn't expect to see this game back on the Workbench. This was amusing, but as is the case with a lot of storybook-style games, you really miss out on a lot of the fun and humor of the game by seeing a speedrun. I was also a little disappointed to see effectively no change in the route, but that's the way it has to be. The fights look especially quick this time. However, I have one question: why isn't it faster to have Goliath keep charging the same side of the stage each time? You make him change sides each time, and it seems he travels a long distance to do that. However, my brain has not exploded with amusement, like if I'd been strapped to a chair watching game shows. It's a fairly good run, but I'm going to have to go with Meh for entertainment. If there were any other category of a Nightshade run that led to more humor while still having good pacing, I'd be interested to hear about it.

I was quite surprised by how smooth this looked, and then I realized there were way fewer enemies than normal. You did a great job with spawn abuse. The hobo boss fight and the final boss were also quite noticeably different. Good job!

Good job! I was glad to see that the wallskips mostly avoided boring parts rather than completely breaking the gameplay. The improved fights are also especially noticeable. Does the wallglitch work in the SNES version? If not, then I have a suggestion: do a 100% run on the SNES version that collects all the PITFALL letters. That way, we have a 100% version on the slower system to complement the faster any% run on the Genesis.

I'd forgotten I played this game a lot as a kid. My memory of the stages was fairly scattered. I feel like I usually played the game on a slower speed than 70FPS as well. I'm amazed how easy this makes some of the stages look. The action is frantic, especially when the player warps around a lot on the colored teleporters. Some very close calls are done with enemies. I would've liked to see the effects of more powerup manipulation, but this is quite a good "pure" run as it is. I agree with Bisqwit that the game gets repetitive, but in pieces the run is great. I'm voting a weak Yes in terms of entertainment, but I'm very impressed with the technical level. Good job!

Wow, this really is what Syobon Action should have been. The graphics and music are really delightful. Also, I like the fact that there's some real stage variety in the game too, even if it's still mostly run-right-for-justice. (Carrying along the mushroom and fan, and other props, is a nice touch.) I think I caught one of the less obvious things this game ripped off: when you fight the first phase of the final boss in the shooter, that boss's pattern is exactly the same as the first phase of the final boss in Kirby's Adventure. It shoots the same number of times, follows the same pattern, and fights you with a backdrop of the moon as well. I'm somewhere between Meh and Yes at the moment. There were flashes of brilliance, for sure. However, for a game that touts itself on making lots of traps, you managed to skip most of the game, and this makes the gameplay more repetitive. (There's the same issue with the Syobon Action run too, but that run is shorter.) Regardless of whatever I vote, I want to say: Nice job!

Nice! I'm glad to see a wholly different route being useful in this game. I never actually knew about the 3-1 warp before now. I still hate the overuse of voice acting (especially Birdo), but the run is pretty good. The only thing it's missing compared to the other Peach run is seeing Peach cross all of 6-2 quickly hopping on the birds. Yes vote. Also, I support Nahoc's screenshot for the publication (unless it's a little too suggestive for what would be appropriate on a front-page picture ;-) ).

Given that there are more than four buttons used here, I'd be more inclined to say this run is like Pump It Up or Pop 'n Music instead of DDR ;-) But then again, only three buttons are used most of the time. I admit I liked hearing the really fast uses of the up arrow that sound sort of like drums. However, the glitching and corruption don't themselves look interesting to the viewer. The input display is great, but it's not enough to make this get a good vote from me. It also doesn't help that very little of the credits is seen either. I have to vote No on entertainment, but this is a spectacular technical run.

jlun2 totally has a fair opinion. I personally haven't played F-Zero X myself, so I could see how this gets confusing. For me, though, Lord Tom put it right: you destroy over craft by crashing into them. And crashing into 23 different craft in 6 seconds of game time is a crazy amount of destruction in a short time. I feel like it's comparable to trick shots in pool that somehow clear the entire table before you can blink :-) So I found this fun, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as they're mature and/or considerate about it.

That was the most hilarious 30 seconds of my day. After seeing the realtime encode, the slow-motion encode was much more appreciated too. And you're saying this movie cuts the previous TAS record to only about 40% of its in-game time? Stunning. EDIT: I misread the submission text. I thought that the record had been improved BY 8 seconds, not that the previous record WAS around 8 seconds. The improvement was a lot more minor than previously believed. Still, nice job optimizing this.

Ok, that's really funny. The stage transitions look a lot smoother than I thought they would, and once you're done, it's basically a theater of cutscenes. Nice job!

Wow, interesting! Unfortunately, I can't watch this on an emulator, so I'll have to wait for an encode. (There's no hurry, though... not for me.) This sounds really neat though!

Just out of curiosity: why is this being relegated to the Vault and not to Moons? The votes have been pretty positive, and the feedback even suggested the autoscrollers have been entertaining. It's rare for a platformer to make that claim :-)

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! Description mentions Yoko, but she is never recruited in this run.
Yoko Belnades and Alucard easily pick up the slack, though... or they would, but this run skips Yoko.
:P
Yep, I put that bit in the description. Besides, Yoko shows up in the character selection images on the top later in the game, even though she is skipped. She also shows up in the credits.

Not bad! Even though the game is basically run-right-for-justice, it has pretty good visuals and music. I'd say it's definitely more interesting than some of the other games we have in a similar category (like Vigilante, Urban Champion, and Bad Dudes). The autoscroller at the end was actually a nice change of pace from the rest of the game, since you got to show off more moves, kill several guys with one blow, and knock down a steel girder with only one kick. The play level looks pretty high. I'm between Meh and Yes on this one, but the nice music and last-stage antics bring this to a Yes for me.

Thanks again for temp encodes, Spikestuff! I admit that I was expecting this to be worse than it is given the comments in this thread. It's certainly hard to watch visually... the stage with the yellow backgrounds was especially hard to tell where all the objects were. However, the music was fairly catchy. All in all, I'd say this worked out to be a pretty good puzzle game with some split-second reactions and mildly complicated routes. There's more going on in this game than some other puzzle games we have here (like Kwirk, for instance). Another thing I liked is that by watching the full game, I could see the intro stages and use them to learn better how the game actually works. With the "extra world" TAS, I wasn't as familiar with the game rules, so I wasn't as ready to appreciate it. I'm voting Yes and would like to see this is Moons. At the very least, I imagine we could publish both this and the extra world run (sort of like Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle).
