Awesome. Maybe this could be a little faster, especially if you manipulate fewer enemies in the way, but I really like how this looked. Even the necessary suicides in Stage 7 didn't really detract from the movie (and that boss is much cooler in a pacifist run). The enemy soup is thick, indeed. I'm totally in favor of getting this a Moon. Yes vote!

That's better! It's a bit of a shame to see the shield used, but I can forgive that. This definitely looks more optimized. I'd say this deserves Yes.

I like the game, and I think this is fairly entertaining for a short Atari run. An optimal run of this game should certainly be published. So, I voted "Yes" to this run, but I think we should see more optimization in this run before publication (especially if FractalFusion claims there's a 4 or 5 second improvement in a 25-second movie!)

There's much more earache during the final fight, but it's also pretty funny to see the other Links suicide like that. Yes vote!

Not bad. I don't understand why Bobby has that stupid jingle every time he jumps, though. Did he have bells in his pockets? From a technical standpoint, this seems alright. There seemed to be a lot of little delays at the beginnings of screens; most of the time, I could tell the delay was needed, but I wasn't sure about all of them. The close bird-dodging was good. I liked seeing the "magic bridge"... you look like you caught that at the exact right time. Out of curiosity, how much time do you lose for each jump?

Nice job making this faster. However, at the same time, the route became more monotonous; you only have to go sideways once! Granted, it is fairly efficient. That, and the catchy tune at the end, leads me to a Yes vote. I'm curious though: would going right up the middle be feasible in realtime? Was there any luck manipulation?

Thanks for the temp encode! This ended up being pretty fun to watch. First of all, the graphical detail IS good enough to see what's going on properly. Also, there are some good close calls, and I like seeing the little zip you do at the tops of ropes to dodge brown spiders and whatever those blue dudes are on the top level. The bats at the ends of levels were also a good touch. I voted Yes.

Nice going! I would normally watch GBA runs on the emulator, but I saw your niconico encode to try and get you some ad revenue. I was fairly surprised how much more English language support the site has now (there wasn't any support last time I used the site). As for the run, it looks really good! I was quite happy to see the invincibility candy used to beat a miniboss quickly, and I liked seeing the other Kirbys get more use, especially in Dark Mind. Two questions though: * In the 100% run comments, you mentioned that you could control Missile faster by using more diagonal motions. Why didn't you do that in this run? You use Missile less in this run than in the 100%, so it wouldn't be as annoying. * I guess you still didn't get a chance to abuse Magic to get a free ability roulette? I recall your old comments saying you were hoping to do that.

Killscreens really aren't that impressive for TASing, though. It depends on whether the loops offer any variety, like faster enemies or higher point bonuses. If the different loops of the game offered significantly different play (like in the Ghosts and Goblins series of games), that would be different. However, if you're not rewarded with a special ending or different play, it wouldn't actually be interesting. Maybe a good rule of thumb is: could other loops of the game be played merely by doing copying and minor hex-editing of the input? If so, and if the reward for doing so is near inconsequential, it's not worth it. Going to the kill screen doesn't offer any significant extra skill as a TASer in these cases. In theory, somebody can make a run of an old arcade game that hits the killscreen, and maybe that run will make it into the Vault. I pity whoever watches the whole thing, though... Oh god, that means Desert Bus probably has to end up in the Vault! And many many April Fool's runs, which technically are records! (Barney's Hide and Seek, for instance...)

If a game repeats endlessly, then I think one loop of the game should be played, and then input stops. That's been the standard for runs like Circus Charlie and Donkey Kong, for instance. That convention should go in the rules somewhere (it can't hurt to add it), but that wouldn't just apply to Vault movies. It would apply to any submitted run.

Alright, I watched the movie. Good job with the improvements. I'd probably notice them more if I could read the dialog, but it was still a good movie to watch. The music is awesome. There are surprisingly very few fights. You do have to wait a LONG time for that dog though. Is there anything else you could have done besides stand still? Other viewers: I recommend you take a look at the story of the game summarized in the published movie's notes.

Welcome, suwei! I'm quite glad to see an improvement of this game. I haven't watched the movie yet, but I plan on seeing it later today. I have two questions: 1) Were you able to improve any battles? 2) Do you know any good resources for translating the dialogue of this game? This game would be more popular for English speakers if there were a translation of the dialogue.

I vaguely recall a submission some time ago of a very similar game, using harpoons to break bubbles. I think the run was on the Game Boy, but I can't remember who submitted it. This game would definitely be a little more colorful and entertaining than a GB port, and I might vote Yes for a full run. There's no reason to accept the stage warp, though. In the few cases it's been ok (such as Ghouls and Ghosts), there were reasons like the game requiring you to play it all twice anyway. In fact, some runs even tried to use a password shortcut (like the Barbie run) and were rejected / cancelled, but then a full run of the game got accepted. I think the question people should be focusing on is: would you be likely to vote Yes on a full-game run?

Maybe... but I'm not sure. For instance, with Mad Grinder, there's a noticeable delay in shooting, but then Mad Grinder throws his blade and takes damage a lot faster than normal. I figured delays were manipulation to make bosses vulnerable to damage glitches (the end of the Bubbleman fight was another like that, I think). It would be good if Marx could comment more on the glitches.

Alright! This definitely looks better. The Centaurman and Shadowman fights look improved. I liked the ending better as well. Thank you, Marx. I think this is at least as interesting a fighting game as, say, Teleroboxer. It's not as entertaining as most Megaman games, but it's also short. Judges, consider my vote changed to a Yes (even if I can't officially make the change in the poll).

Thank you for making some changes, Marx, especially including the last part of Wily 2! Once again, though, I won't be able to watch this without an encode.

Ok, I found this better than E.T. There is a bunch of walking, but there's some semblance of dodging and of action, I guess. It's still pretty incomprehensible to the casual viewer what's going on, though, and not in a good way. I figure this is a Meh or a Yes, and I can't make up my mind between the two. It would definitely be a Yes if you had any clue at all as to what the things on the screen are. It really seems like Pitfall might be the only redeemable Atari run. (Dig Dug could be fun to see a few stages, but it wouldn't be fun to actually finish, if that's even possible.)

Wow, way to celebrate a new system. I appreciate the historical nod here, along the lines of TASing something just because Angry Video Game Nerd insulted it (like Ghostbusters or the Transformers run). However, this ultimately doesn't really have any redeeming gameplay. This makes a great entry in the wonderful history of Gruefood Delight, but I can't say it makes a good published movie. No vote.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The way I figure it, a run could always get published first on a normal difficulty, but then a harder difficulty run could obsolete it. That's what happened with several runs already (such as Wario Land 4 or Metal Slug X, I believe). Anyway, thank you for the encode, feos! Now that I've seen it, though, I'm not as happy with it as I would've liked. Pros: * Two-player action is pretty cool. * The fights seem quite precise. Cons: * Megaman takes damage in one or two fights that seems pretty avoidable. * Most bosses just stay down on the ground for a long time. Even if that's the fastest way to kill them, it looks more boring. (If we treat this game like a fighting game, then we would want to see more speed-entertainment tradeoffs... I don't know.) * You don't stop Wily's capsule at the end! I think any TAS of this game should take a little extra time and kill the capsule to get the best ending. I'm voting Meh because of the ending capsule.

Good luck! This seems pretty interesting. Sorry I didn't comment earlier, but I wasn't able to watch this without a video encode.

Wow, very nice! You work quite fast. Stage-by-stage comments follow. Stage 1: * I like seeing the variety of moves used for the fighting. It's really a shame there aren't more beat-em-up stages in this game. * The first volcano section looks a little sloppy with all the damage-taking, but I can understand that. It is sort of funny to see the toads take so much abuse and yet barely survive. * I miss playing ping-pong with Rocky, but that fight was incredible. Stage 2: * Fairly good entertainment. There's a lot of carnage at the beginning. * Good job with making the dominos a bit more interesting. I found it nifty to see that you gained score by having the toads attack each other... that would be a good trick in a high-score run. * Question: If you hit the rats in the bonus stage, do they damage you? Does that give you a way to finish the bonus stage faster? Stage 3: * Not much you can do to make this interesting, but you did a pretty good job. I especially liked your playaround in the fastest segment. Stage 4: * Amazing. The playaround in the last room is particularly hilarious. Stage 5: * I'd probably find this stage harder than the Turbo Tunnel in real time, since the graphics are cramped and the directions change all the time. Nothing much you can do about this stage. * However... the stage only ends when Fuzz crosses the line, right? Perhaps you could've made the race a close call at the end for entertainment. Ultimately, it's not really important. * Nothing to say about the dominoes... Stage 6: * I actually prefer this stage without the graphical glitches. The glitches got old in the last run. Here, you can actually see the complexity of the races. * Hooray for Rash as a surfboard! * The Dark Queen fight wasn't really that interesting in the previous run, so I'm glad to see the fight cut short. In short, awesome job. The music of this game rocks too, especially the Bowling Pins bonus stage. Yes vote.

Overall, I mostly agree with FractalFusion about the appealing parts of this game. The tutorials are a little slow, but generally they do a good job at making the pace varied. The game is a little repetitive, but there's a surprising amount of action. The boss fights suck, but I don't think they're enough of a buzzkill to destroy the whole run. We've had some other great runs with really annoying boss fights like: * Mr. Nutz (the 4th and 5th bosses drag on a lot) * McDonald's Treasureland Adventure (the final boss) I'm voting Yes for this.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! Nice going, and good encode. The fights against the Spiritia boss were really made to look a lot easier than they normally are. Yes vote.

Dooty: Megaman, most likely. Out of all the SNES runs of these games so far, probably the Megaman X2 run which gets the Shoryuken is most improvable... it doesn't use some tricks that have been found since its publication.

Alright, I finally got a chance to watch this whole thing. And, to be honest, I don't like it very much. I voted Meh, leaning towards No. The problem is, the game is capable of fast action, but it introduces way too many unavoidable delays. After the first few stages, you spend most of your time waiting around for the next bot to spawn. Also, when you have 5 or 6 bots to bring to the goal with each stage, the game gets very repetitive. The enemies hardly look like they do anything to impede your action, which also makes the run more repetitive. I can see the skill in optimizing the drops of the bots, but the movie lost its flair after 5 minutes for me.
