Of course, the issue with this kind of run is "Does this deserve to be a separate published category?" The swordless challenge is certainly famous, but the true test of whether it should get published is if the challenge leads to impressive play that is distinct from the runs we already have. In this regard, I'd say this run totally qualifies, and indeed it kicks a whole lot of ass. The route change is interesting. The bomb manipulation is incredible. Heck, I even approve of you wasting a little time to shoot an old man in Level 9. Hearty Yes vote. Congratulations on your first submission! This run also makes me want to see an any% 1st-quest run featuring the screen scroll glitch :-)

As with the last run of this game, I get an annoying brick background on the first stage when I run this. With the last run, the background displayed correctly if I used the bad dump ROM, Ghoul School (U) [b1]. Is that what I have to do here to get the game to play properly?

Two parts looked a little questionable. In 2-2, when you do a tornado attack through a fish, it seems like you're too high up on the screen and have to scroll back down farther. Also, in the 2-3 boss fight, the pirate doesn't get to land for the second hit but does land for the third hit: would it have been better to hit him before he lands for that hit too? In any case, yes vote. It's amazing how fast 4-3 can be done without Furball.

Thanks for the encode, NitroGenesis! So, I've been amused by the Cheetahmen II runs. This game looks marginally better. However, the play looks sloppy, and that may just be the game's fault, but it doesn't work for me. There should really be a better way to beat those bosses... Now, I'm up for bad games sometimes. I liked Ghostbusters. I liked Takeshi No Chousenjou. I liked Urban Champion. Those runs took an obnoxious game and made it look like no problem at all. This, however, still looks clumsy even when TASed, so that's what makes me vote No here. The music is still stuck in my head, though...

Furthermore, our pacifist TAS only uses the peashooter and is a lot faster than this. tormed, please read the welcome page for this site. (The FAQs are also a good idea.) Also, search for previously published and submitted movies in order to see what people have already done. It seems you still don't understand what this site is all about.

I like the idea of this category of run. The main concern I had was whether this run looked sufficiently different from the others to warrant separate publication. Given that the main character can jump all the time like a loon in this version, that might be all the difference we need. The garbled screen from the boss death glitch is cool too. Couple questions though: 1) Why does the any% run use PAL, if the jumping height makes the (U) version better for 0%? I recall Lord Tom's submission comments said something about getting a bunch of lag with the ammolums, but I didn't really see any lag from them in this run. 2) Why do you jump away for a bit to respawn the ammolums? Does wiggling like in the any% not work? 3) The first enemy you kill is a dude who jumps off Gran Mountain. You seem to wait a while for him to jump. Couldn't you have just killed another flying creature on the way to Eruga with less delay? I like this run, but I'm not sure what to vote until these questions have some form of answer. Thanks!

How else do the dinosaurs escape the meteors? :) Anyway, nice improvements. Caverns 5 and 7 are the only ones that feel slow, but that's because the rest of the caverns are really awesome. Yes.

No vote because of all the missed shots. ... Just kidding. Of course, the extra shots is the whole point of the game. This game has a really nice style. It's also quite impressive that it doesn't lag much at all with all the action on screen. Nice job especially with Stage 8; that was the only one where I wish it could've gone a little bit longer. It seemed like you could've ended some stages a little earlier by being more on the right side of the screen when you pick up the last note, but this is pretty minor. Yes vote. ais523: I don't know if this helps, but the fast-forward item doesn't look like it makes the stage scroll any more quickly. It just makes the background music faster. Sometimes this makes the music worse.

This started off slow, but it ended up getting pretty good by the end. The run also looked fairly confusing, since it wasn't always clear which item you actually had to collect in ech stage. However, I'd say this is nicely paced and should get published. By the way, GlitchMan, you work really fast! It's not been too long since your last publications, and those were difficult-to-make TASes as well!

There are three ingredients thata fighting game should have to be able to be interesting as a TAS. In decreasing order of importance: 1) Technique mastery, such as difficult combos 2) Variety, such as using multiple characters and different styles 3) Glitches This run has essentially none of these. No damage is taken, but no big combos are getting strung together. There's really no variety in playing style or moves. This isn't as bad as the MKII run that only used Liu Kang's Bicycle Kick, but it's not much better. Since this is much less impressive than the published fighting game runs here, I have to vote No. (However, thanks to sgrunt for making the encode!)

Absolutely amazing. Looking at the YouTube comments, I was also particularly amused by a guy posting: "5+6 = mr. saturn write this shit down kids" I totally agree this should be nominated for Funny TAS of the Year, when the time comes. And I think this could be very good star material because it serves as a major example of how a TAS can go beyond the game itself to find inspiration and entertainment, similarly to the Gradius run. (The pictures are also less crude than the jokes in the Family Feud run... I love that run too, but this has a different charm to it.)

What is this I don't even I'm not sure I could tell very much of what was going on at all. For this game, that is a very good thing. This was downright mesmerizing. This is how you make Space Invaders interesting. By the way, there's a Wikipedia link in the submission pointing to the first game. There's a Wikipedia page for the second game too.

Dino, dino, do-da-do-da-do, you're a pink little dinosaur... Yay for being able to reference a relevant DDR song! This game makes Super Pitfall look sane, and that's saying something. That actually makes the game more interesting. Also, the speed is impressive. Nice job, and Yes vote!

Sorry, but I couldn't keep interested in this after the first stage. Shooting all the time, and missing swarms of enemies, looks really bad. The first boss fight also looked quite slow, since the plane is moving too much to dodge shots. It doesn't really look like much effort was put into this. I'm going to have to vote No. I'm also not sure this is a good game choice in the future; it doesn't seem to have the art potential of Gradius or the weapon variety of U.N. Squadron.

Thanks, PSI Slime, for a little more explanation of the difficulty of the run. I see now where the difficulty comes from, and it's pretty amusing how many cars run into your backside to make you go faster. (In some sense, this makes the first track the most impressive...) The awesome music also keeps the run from being too repetitive, so I think this deserves a weak Yes vote.

I found it more fun to watch the run first and then go back to the submission comments. (Maybe that's how it's supposed to be done for most runs, anyway...) This was pretty entertaining. The music is great, and the puzzles vary enough to keep things fresh. It's great how you could manipulate to have the best battle chips every time you wanted them. Yes vote.

Nice run! After the first few levels, the play gets interesting. I also like the music. The game started to get a little repetitive near the end, though, so I don't know whether a 100% run would be a good idea. In any case, it seems like an any% run belongs on the site. Out of curiosity, you mention a potential improvement by alternating diagonal and horizontal movement. If this actually worked, how much time do you expect it would save? (i.e. is this enough time to merit a delayed submission?)

This is a bad choice of run goals, and the combos don't look impressive for a tool-assisted run. Dark Fulgore's run is a lot better. I suggest you take a look at sgrunt's post; it has some good information.

I never played this or Top Gun 2 growing up. I didn't really like Xipo's run of Top Gun 2, and I can't really get through this run either. I know you've done the best you can, but I can't see this game being particularly interesting. For instance, you mention that the spawn locations of the enemies are fixed. It annoys me that the game has this feature deliberately built in, as it keeps you from doing cool preemptive shots. In general, the problem is that an impressive run doesn't really look all that impressive, and that's the game's fault. Apart from that, my comments are about the same as others in this thread. Sorry, but I'm also going with No.

The subtitles were a major help; much thanks for making them. The battles themselves are still hard to follow. On the other hand, the glitches were quite amusing; I liked seeing important conversations happen with your back turned :-) I did need to use fast forward after the first half, but I don't think that was a serious problem standing in the way of acceptance of this run. I imagine this run would be a big hit with people who have played this game. Concerning your questions about RPG, I have a thought about instant kills. An instant kill is only cheap if the fighting is normally entertaining. For instance, in Final Fantasy, the Bane Sword is an instakill, and it's fine there because otherwise the fights drag on for a long time selecting menu options. Furthermore, it's impresive that the Bane Sword works so well. On the other hand, in Secret of Mana, a boss instakill has been found. However, the boss fights of Secret of Mana have so much action that the instakill is a lot less interesting. (For instance, the instakill means you see a lot less of the game's variety of spells being used.)

Nice job! Some of the damage in the dragon boss fight (or Hydra, whatever that thing is) looked a little sloppy, but there's probably not much you can do about it. On the other hand, the final fight was really awesome.

PikachuMan: IT'S OVER 9000!! (That's what you were expecting, right? ;-) ) I remember seeing this game back when I still had Nintendo Power. You made it look really entertaining despite all the lag, and that's saying something. Nice going! You've run some pretty awesome games lately.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Thanks for the links to Megaman Ultra, woabclf! I liked your run of that game. It feels like it could be improved a little, but it looks like a definite possibility for TASVideos, especially the Wily 2 bossfight. EDIT: Deus Ex Machina looks even better!

NitroGenesis: Awesome video and good choice of music for it. I'm also amused to see your French settings. Hikaru: Not bad! I watched your run and krocketneo's run. Without a doubt, yours is more entertaining. You move in better patterns, you kill a lot more, and you have more weapon variety (like the rotating shield of Options and the double shot). Since you kill more, you also usually have less lag. However, krocketneo's run is a little faster. The main reason is boss fights. There are a couple bosses where you look faster (the giant red eye machine, the jumping Moai head), but in most other fights, you look a little slower. You especially lose time against the big green Moai heads. Also, you shoot at bosses before they can take damage, which really doesn't help. For these reasons, I have to vote No. However, I think this game could have a good run published. You would want to improve lag and fight bosses more effectively. I think you can do it though!

I liked this. The music is not bad (I laughed at Wily 4, when the music was "Moskau" by Dschingis Kahn). The changes in the weapons seem pretty cool. The glitches look quite nice, such as beating the Wily 1 dragon without dying on it. In fact, the quality of play is very high, cleaner than previous runs on this Rockman 2 hacks. However, the stage design isn't as interesting as with Rockman No Constancy. I still think this is worth publishing alongside RNC, though. Yes vote.
