By the way, this comment you just posted, reiki: you should probably edit your submission to say that. I'm not familiar with this game, but this looks pretty well-played. It seems much faster near the end of the game than at the beginning... one of the levels near the beginning where the ball starts surrounded by blocks (I think it's level 6) looks particularly slow. Am I thinking of level 4 instead, the one you mention in your comment? Some of the quick victories near the end look pretty impressive, but I feel that the game is generally too repetitive and long for what it is (as opposed to, say, Super Dodge Ball, which lasts less than 6 minutes). I'm going to have to go with a positively-tinted Meh.

Is this run so good that "Yes" gets counted as two words these days? ;-) (Not trying to be mean... I like the run too.) Also, any TAS of this game makes me wish I could mash buttons effectively to fly better as the bee. Just saying. The mouse skip in Nightmare Land 3 still blows my mind, even though it was already in the published run.

Ah, my bad, so the PM can go to any judge? Thanks! In any case, nice improvements HappyLee!

Oh man. This is the first chance I've had to actually watch this run while being well-rested enough to pay close attention. This is really awesome. I'm glad to see that the tricks from max12187566's run made it in. Some random comments:
  • It's amazing how the climbing techniques made it faster to use the gorilla in Stage 2. I will miss the gorilla skip from the published run, though.
  • Loved the playaround with the dropping spikes in Stage 3 and in Nightmare Land part 2. Also, great pose at the end of the manta fight in Nightmare Land part 2, and that would make a cool screenshot.
  • You fly higher with the bee than I remember being possible on controller, especially in Stage 5 and in Nightmare Land part 3. How does bee flight work? Is it just that 3 seconds after you start pressing A to fly up, you can't gain height anymore, or is there some maximum number of times you can press A before starting to fall?
  • On a related note, I know the published run skips using the lizard in Stage 6 as well, but that still blows my mind. Hooray for barely circumventing the barriers that the programmers thought were absolute!
  • In Nightmare Land part 1, you take a hit off a little frog near the beginning and then have to wait for the flame jets later. You end that part with two health points left, and your health gets refilled after the penguin boss. Why not take damage on both the frog and the flames to save some time?
Regardless of all of this, hearty Yes vote. Oh, and p0rtal_0f_rain, this ROM shouldn't be too bad to find. I can't say more about how to get it, of course, but you should totally check it out, rather than voting Yes on a run you haven't actually checked out for yourself.

HappyLee, if these are going to be small changes, then when you're done, you shouldn't create a whole new submission. Instead, send a PM to adelikat with the new file and have this submission updated. I look forward to the new version though!

Nice job HappyLee! I'd like to see if you can get better luck on 4-2 and 8-2 by adjusting the number of coins you get. However, this concern aside, this is a really nice-looking run and a solid improvement. Thank you as well for the detailed and easy-to-read submission comments. I would suggest the picture that HappyLee took of the Bowser fight in 4-4 as a screenshot.

Out of curiosity, when this submission appeared, for a little while there was no link for Discussion or Voting. Why was that? Also, I don't really have anything informed to say about the run. Thanks sgrunt for bringing up the times from TSC.

I figured I'd watch this again, if people are currently on the fence about this. I gotta admit I liked the game better the second time I saw this. This may also be because I wasn't really tired when I started watching this the second time. The game really isn't as bad as I thought originally. By the way, it seems like the video on Dailymotion pauses after the boss is beaten (thanks to adelikat for the upload there!).

Umm... let's not get angry here, people. I gotta say, I really like this run, and it is an improvement to the current published movie. If all you're going to work on is to see whether you can beat Dracula with 2 casts, then why not leave this in the submission queue for now? I would imagine that the judges aren't in a hurry to give a verdict on this submission. If you end up discovering a better final boss fight, then this can be updated with a PM, and if not, we've still got a good run. Basically, I would suggest that you don't cancel this unless you're certain that you're going to make a completely redone run. It would be a shame to cancel this, not get any improvements done, and have this run lost to the Grue.

This run has no real combos being used. The same characters are used way too often, like Baraka and Scorpion. There are plenty of moves that miss or are blocked, which looks bad. Also, given the motions that the player goes through when performing fatalities, it seems like this run was definitely recorded at a faster speed than frame advance. I couldn't really find this entertaining, especially when the glitchfest feels faster, makes a bigger fool out of the computer, and offers so much more. Sorry, but No vote.

Wow... it seems like somebody was trying to cash in on Donkey Kong's fame with a bad game. There's no variety in this one at all. It seems like the run is decent technically... the only real delays happen on the first round before the heat gun is obtained. Also, it seems like stopping after 4 levels is a pretty arbitrary stopping point: it's not clear to me that the game really loops from that point onward. However, it seemed well-done enough and it was quick, so a weak Meh vote.

Wow... Phil, you have amazing technical ability with fine-tuning run optimization. This looks quite nice. I really liked the first boss kill and the end-of-level poses on the first two levels. Minor point: I think I counted 3 jumps in level 4, but the third one doesn't finish before the boss appears. Also, I would love to see an improvement to Super Castlevania 4. Angerfist, weren't you originally working with that run too?

I still had to watch a fair bit of this game on fast forward, since walking through all the tunnels takes such a long time, but the action is quite good. I really liked the battles with Muzh and the serpent-like boss. It was also nice to see some other enemies occasionally get killed for their MP drops... it adds to the variety of the run. Yes vote.

Priam, from what I could gather in the submission text, it manipulates luck in Stage 4 by delaying, so that the correct door in the maze is the first door. (I'm of the understanding that the correct door is determined randomly?) I did see the delays when I watched the run. Also, there was a pause when fighting the boss of stage 2... notice that the last bounce on the boss hit him pretty early in comparison to some other hits. It's debatable whether that manipulates luck or just takes advantage of boss patterns, though.... As for not manipulating luck, there are definitely some runs that do that. I forget exactly which games, but I know I read the submission comments for a game where nothing was randomly determined at all. When I search for "does not manipulate luck", I get that Aqfaq's run of The Immortal doesn't manipulate luck, for what it's worth. Also, Truncated's TAZ Mania.

Ah, ok then, thanks for the response. Yes vote, especially since this game gets more interesting in the later stages, where it's clearly harder.

Thanks for the encode! This looks like a pretty decent run of an average game. It's disappointing that Buster runs so slowly despite his "fast running cycle" animation. However, the music is generally pretty good, especially in Stage 3. (Btw, I liked your dancing around while waiting for Cyber Max to become vulnerable.) I was wondering: you mention that you can walk through walls, but you never use this except when fighting Cyber Max. I thought of a couple places where this glitch might be helpful though. First, in Stage 2, in the first room with water rising and falling, you fall down some collapsing platforms and then have to jump your way back up on the other side of the pipes. Couldn't you walk through the pipe at the top, rather than falling down? Also, in any of the rooms where you have to travel mostly vertically (the rising-water rooms in Stage 4 come to mind), would it be faster to get yourself in the right wall and jump upwards in that wall?

Thanks for the info about the game, Derakon and ArukADO. I'm not sure I really liked the last boss fight, compared to the published movie, just because this fight seemed a lot longer. However, I'm sure you had your reason for this, and there was a certain appeal to the fight where it looked like you mostly got to stand still and watch Dracula die.

I wish I knew a little bit more about how this game worked. Like, at one point, Alucard crouches a bunch of times and some sort of soul flies out of the wall, but I'm not sure what that's doing. In addition, is the fairy healing you all the time so that you can get Big Tossed that much? However, this was pretty awesome to watch, especially with all the Big Tossing and with the glitching through the elevator to get the Soul of Wolf. A sizable improvement to the existing run, as well. Yes vote.

Thanks for the YouTube links. For some reason, this movie desynced for me on the second stage when I played it back with SNES9x 1.43 version 15.3. This game really does look a hell of a lot better as a TAS, when you dodge all the obstacles at blinding speed. This run is also a really nice improvement to the last one. In particular, I like the underwater part a lot better in this movie; it seems that you run on the ground more. The walljumps underwater were especially funny. Unfortunately, the bosses are generally disappointing when they are beaten this quickly. I also have a couple questions. First, is the order of the stages fixed? If not, then it seems like the basement should be visited last, so that you don't have to double-back to the winter room. Second, could the first boss be killed closer to the floor to save time when he exits the screen after dying?

Hmm... I wasn't able to successfully view the Nico video yesterday, but it worked today. Thanks to Shinryuu back in the Rockman 2 discussion thread for linking to a guide for subscribing to Nico. Now that I've finally watched it, I don't really have anything more to add to what everyone else already said. Very nice work!

I had trouble staying interested in this run. The levels are long, and the uncontrollable jump height looks annoying in a TAS. I do agree with Judge Ito that things look better after the first couple of worlds. I have a couple questions about the run. First off, it seems that you pick up a lot of weapons in a single world sometimes... I think you got a weapon in each stage of one of the worlds. Why is this needed if weapons last until the end of a world? (For instance, I think you got two boomerangs in World 2.) Secondly, at the end of Stage 3-2 or 3-3, couldn't you shoot that tornado rather than take damage off of it? It seemed like that was one of the more avoidable places to take damage. That being said, the game does look pretty difficult. The speedup arrows are really awesome, though they don't appear as often as I would like. (It could be interesting if the game littered the worlds with speedup arrows, so that a human player would actually have to DODGE some of them to maintain a good sense of control.) The weapons are pretty cool for the most part, with the sledgehammer definitely looking the best.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! Nice job! I wasn't expecting this to be particularly entertaining, but I was impressed by how much dodging there was of the blue blobs (is that the one named Nuts?). I only wish there were more walljumps. Also, I could swear I've seen that type of little helicopter in Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. One question, though. In stage 39, you are on the left side of the stage when you start moving right to get the last fruit. At this point, you're pretty close to the house. Why didn't you climb up to the house and jump along the top path? Instead, you fell down a little and crossed to the right on a lower path, which looked like it used more climbing.

Eh, I sort of feel the game as Judge Ito. I think the game definitely deserves a TAS, though the run is almost too fast-paced for me to have any good idea of what's going on. To me, all of a sudden "+30" and "-50" are appearing randomly in the health area. The game sort of became a blur, where I couldn't really remember enough distinct details about each boss. However, I still had fun with this, so this gets a Yes vote. By the way, I found an (A) ROM that didn't sync with this movie, but there was a (U) ROM that did. I'm surprised something was labeled as (U) in the first place, given there isn't supposed to be a US release, and the (U) ROM also had plenty of Engrish. Further, it had really corrupted graphics in the ending, although the game itself was fine. Any idea what's going on here?

By the way, shouldn't this movie be listed with Hacks/Other, instead of in the NES section? Thanks!
