He has an account here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2449. However, I'm sure it wasn't him who added the YT links to the movie pages, that must've been done by other editors.

So why is this game so hard to TAS? My guess is shoting eggs.
Not so much shooting itself, but calculating the optimal trajectories with reflections. When you need to shoot three eggs so that they can ricochet off the stuff and hit all the required spots while you run through without stopping and optimize your movement at the same time, it makes you spend very much time on testing, and I'd say more so than with Super Metroid.

Use more rerecords, test things when in doubt. Works for any run.

Everyone enjoys Altered Beast TAS!
You wish. TASes of games like Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and Splatterhouse are seriously underappreciated.

I mean, how much could 64k ROM have cost in 1992?
A short answer: more than necessary for it to fulfill its primary duties. :)

The reason I never go on various meetups and conventions (not just anime) is that for the most part, they are based on popular things that I don't like. Not because they're popular, but because of certain things that make it popular.

This is a neat idea. How do you accomplish that?

Has anybody figured out how swapping discs would be handled?
Let me guess. 1. Game wants to load stuff from another CD (an ISO lying in the same folder as the previous). 2. Emulator tells it the disk is being swapped. 3. Emulator loads the data from disc 2 following the usual routine.

Morph ball bomb jumping is used pretty frequently, is there any reason/restriction that doesn't allow you to use the spring ball extension on all of them?
It just doesn't work. Neither does in vanilla SM. I think Springball has a flag type variable that sets to 1 if you've used it, and only resets back to 0 if you make a contact with the ground.

It's not a charged wave beam shot, it's a pseudo-screw attack, his weak spot. :) Listen to the sound!

Good job on the Torizo fight. Just as beautiful as I had expected.

Actually I was planning to request that two AVIs be published for this movie, one for US soundtrack, one for Japanese.
Two audio tracks can live in the same AVI. ;)

The set of parrots is the mascot for ViewSonic. So, not a movie (or impossible to identify).

NES could at least do some physics simulation. FODA, I believe you're completely missing the point that [at least some] Atari games have been interesting to play, or at least watch done manually; but in a TAS, their ugly repetition (because you could pack only this much data in a 2600 cart) comes forth and makes it look as boring as ever to pretty much anyone who's not a complete 2600 junkie.

From what I've seen in my time here, it's fairly well-accepted that a TAS's purpose is to entertain, not show skill, so what's the point of turning up the difficulty? In general, higher difficulties just mean more/tougher enemies, perhaps detracting from the entertainment value or making the movie take longer.
It depends on the game. More bullets to dodge = fun. More enemies to kill/dodge = usually fun. More spectacular boss battles = funnier than OHKO. And so on.

Neither of them is a disappointing sequel then. :) (For the record, I liked both I and II more than III and its offshoots.)

What's wrong with it? If people were obliged to know the game to a required level of expertise before stating their opinion on a TAS, we'd have SDA's closed verification system instead.

how do I tell what my rerecord count is?
Use your own link. :) I don't know how it happens on OSX, but there supposed to be a movie creation dialogue with at least two options to choose: current frame and power-on (clean SRAM). If there isn't one, I know how aggravating it might be to have no sensible GUI to work with. :\ Apparently, you won't be able to submit the movie if it doesn't start from power-on, since that is against the rules. However, it might be that you won't have to redo the stage from scratch if the game's RNG isn't affected by SRAM. By the way, you're using only frame advance now, right?

Logically speaking, could you not just compare the nth frame to n-1 and see if a button has been released? it doesn't sound that difficult to do...
It does require to parse the whole movie body instead of just the header, which is why no-one has implemented it so far, I think.
