Yes, you may be right. Now that I think of it, Sonic runs didn't entertain me back in the days when I just started watching TASes as they do now, mostly because it took me a while to adjust to the speed.
Funny that I think almost the opposite. :) Mostly because SMB3 has more waiting, I guess. But I do agree that SMB2 is a bit worse and less popular as a game.
Not for the following reasons: NES Castlevania is shorter, the AVI size is MUCH smaller, there's more glitch abuse, and it's more up-to-date. Also, I think more people have played it, which adds to the star factor. Furthermore, the new version that is in production will be even cooler.
Although I agree that Super Castlevania 4 is better in every other aspect (hell, it's one of my favorite games to begin with).
AFAIR, it may be outdated time-wise, but not so precision-wise. Although my opinion on it is that it really can be replaced by other good runs, like Gimmick! (any of them), or Channel X Rockin' Kats, or something else like that.
The same thing as with Castlevania, with an exception that I don't like Zelda games at all. Still, LoZ was interesting to watch, while ALttP got boring after half an hour or so.
You must be kidding.
I didn't find it too entertaining, and I'm not sure if a beginner will.
Boulder Dash has a bit too little to offer to beginners, I think.
This could have taken you 30 minutes instead of 30 days if you were patient enough (what irony) to use rerecords. It would also have saved a couple of seconds as well.
But that won't help anyway, since Where's Waldo sucks and will never be accepted here just for that reason.
Don't get discouraged, though: one of the two runs Saturn is working on currently (and by currently, I mean a long time and a lot more ahead) is pretty much a NBMB run in its essence, since it doesn't get either of the suits, doesn't kill any of the minibosses except Torizo and Botwoon who are unskippable, and kills all the bosses in reverse order, getting most of the useful items before Ridley. So technically, it's a Reverse Boss Order/Suitless/No Miniboss run. :D
A no Boss/MiniBoss run. It is a cleanup run of entire Zebes's map which doesn't involve killing any of the bosses or minibosses except for Torizo.
IMO, it would be incredibly boring to watch since some of the items require one hell of a setup, sometimes including world wrapping (travelling outside the room's boundaries for 255 screens). Remember that in a TAS, if something is possible (no matter how barely), it has to be done. And that includes getting out of the rooms if needs be.
On the other hand, it may be better as a series of SMVs, each showing a way to get a certain item.
From what I see, this game has no ending. It just loops each five stages, so this (and obviously the previous) run stops right after the first loop is complete.
Wow. The first time I saw this game, and it was enough.
It's a pity only that much could be saved, and the luck wasn't manipulated to further extent, but you've still done a good job with this abomination of a game, so I vote yes.
I have a strong feeling that someone has to disassemble the game to shed some light on the randomness.
Well, yeah, but it's kinda difficult to show such a short run in a pre-edited footage without the actual gameplay sequence being suspected in being edited.
I find the full version more entertaining.
It's not about the glitch, it's about its particular application.
To make this difference a bit more apparent to you, I'll provide an example. Imagine that someone finds a glitch that allows substituting every level of a game with a first (or just the shortest) one, in this or any other similar game. What would you do about that? Watch the first level for 5, 6, 10, 20 times? Even though it's only 10 minutes instead of, say, 25? You'd still stand before the same dilemma: "disallowing a glitch" or watching 10 minutes full of redundancy.
Another example: Murder Beam glitch in Super Metroid. If aiming for in-game time, one may choose to use it and win ~20 seconds, which is a lot for a TAS. Now, if you don't remember, I can remind you of at least two big debates spawned around using of this glitch.
Besides, if I follow your logic correctly, choosing not to do something may effectively count as "disallowing" in nearly any case, so I'd say fixing oneself on such an interpretation may be counterproductive.
NES Circus Charlie (JPN) in 03:23.68 by Phil Côté and Jean-François Durocher (aka. Genisto)
— Obsoletes movie #90 (03:25.85)
This is confusing. How the hell do these things happen? >_>
I didn't talk about disallowing anything. I just think that substituting the last set of levels with the first one and making an additional run just for that purpose is a bit over the edge. Especially since it would be 100% identical to the full version in all the common parts when played with full precision.
Come to think of it, are we choosing the faster movies only because they're faster, or there's more to that? Because if we choose to have two movies, the faster one won't bring anything new at all (however, it may have its place as an external link in the description text).
Well, as long as a run is already made with great precision and full understanding of game timing, the most common sources for improvement may be:
• trying to discover new glitches;
• trying to get better precision by monitoring subpixel position;
• trying to reduce lag;
• trying to manipulate luck as good as it theoretically can be.
Here's my list of runs that may look cool in a new promo. Note that the length of each snippet cut from these runs may vary from a couple of seconds to a minute (and maybe more). Higher priority was given to
1) newer/more up-to-date runs, which
2) look good and
3) showcase something never seen in an unassisted run.
Suggestions on the particular scenes are welcome.

Hmm, honestly, I'd not call a considerably long video (with nearly half of it given to credits; I guess that was done to let the ending song fit in completely) with bombastic text spangled with all sorts of errors anything close to good promotional material (and the general response kinda shows that).
That wasn't the point, though; which is: it doesn't do anything good now. Maybe it's better to put it off the YouTube until a better one is made?
Indeed. Well, beside 4-5 runs that are not obsoleted; just outdated. It clearly isn't a good promotional video now (and I'm not sure it was back then).
Hmm, I passed this point several times already. The best way to do it is to wait until the enemies sink, and only then shoot their projectiles at you, and jump shortly afterwards (the best time would be, I guess, when you hear the sound they emanate while shooting: as soon as you hear it, jump). If you just rush forward, then you're guaranteed to stumble upon the shots which will be placed horizontally (that is, 10 times harder to avoid underwater).
Also, I have a theory regarding Saturn's sadistic intentions: his RBO run contained pretty much the same challenges, so he decided to vent his frustration in a form of a hack. :)
Suggestion: if someone would make a Wizards & Warriors run with normal route that would be faster than both of the famtasia runs, shouldn't it be enough? I'm having an impression that two identical runs of that game with only the final set of levels being different (in this case, it's not even different, since the last set of levels is technically the same as the first one) is more than enough for being redundant.
Try keep pressing jump longer, and combine that with pressing down (should help in some situations, since the vertical hitbox contracts to 3/5 of its size, giving you more vertical clearance). Also, when going through sandfalls, keep pressing jump no matter what: as soon as you pass it, you'll magically continue to rise until your vertical acceleration fades out. I'm also in Maridia, trying to farm as more items as possible before going to Botwoon.
What is bad: not every "3D game goes 2D" project is good (as in, not as good as the original game). I had some hopes for Metroid Prime 2D, and I played some of the demos… but I don't know, it didn't feel too "metroidish" to me. Maybe because of considerably poor graphics/music/controls. Maybe because I was too familiar with the other Metroid titles, it let me comprehend MP2d's inferiority. Metroid: Redesign, on the other hand, was more for me than I could ask of two-dimensionized Metroid Prime; although it was a remake of another title of the series, at least it had that feeling™ MP2d doesn't have (yet?).
What is good: not every 3D game is bad. Actually, neither of them which don't hinder your interactions with the environment (which was my main problem with console 3D games until Wii came out; it's yet for me to experience if it has actually solved the problem, though), offer immersive atmosphere and allow things not possible in 2D are bad. There's a lot of awesome 3D games even old-school gamers admire.
What else: I don't care about OoT 2D in particular, and Zelda series in general. :D But if it's as it sounds, I wouldn't put much hope into the fact of it being done. Three years with so many excuses and none of the actual progress demonstrations? Doesn't look convincing.
Well, I understand, and I appreciated what you did to Spore Spawn, but in this case, it's just effectively prolonging an already tedious battle, asking for slowdown and/or savestate abuse. I've eventually beat it, though.
Phantoon is, well, WAY too difficult. Not tricky-difficult, but rather tedious-difficult, since the only weapon you can fight him with are missiles, and there are only 15 (?) of them available at that point.
