The cause of this probably is his overly smooth and expressive movements (especially from the physiognomical standpoint). That, and also the uncanny valley — the more real it looks, the more we tend to say "doesn't feel right" about it.
18544 rerecords for 1023 frames? Holy shit, now that's a rerecord/frame ratio! I'm pretty eager to see what improvements you will find in the later stages, so keep up the good work. :)

I have a bit of web space as well, but for times like this I tend to use Microstorage. ;)
About 90% of VBA's performance is affected by CPU, and only ~2% by graphics card. Make sure you don't have any filters, vsync or triple buffering enabled (they drain the performance rather fast). Also, try setting renderer to OpenGL or Direct3D, it may help as well.
It isn't that boring at 150% speed, but I still don't know if it really worth publishing here, and I don't know if it should replace RR1 TAS (from my point of view, both are almost identically boring).
I'll vote yes, but I would say this run deserves only 4E/8T.
I voted yes, because this was an entertaining and well-made run. The game itself has more entertainment possibilities to exploit, and I hope someone (maybe VANDAL himself) will try to improve the run bearing this in mind.
Still, congratulations, it certainly was worth all the hassle. :)
Bahahaha, the way princess Kiri was captured again and again made me laugh so hard that it essentially became a warrant for a yes vote. :)

No, I subtracted the difference which seems to be 4 frames if I'm not mistaken (measured at the start of the third room, where Deign is 4 frames faster than Dragonfangs because of that).
Actually, he gained 3 frames on you in that room according to my calculations, so I wouldn't say if that was worse.
Other than that, jumping/falling seems to be of Deign's more unstable spots, as he gains and loses frames on those actions almost equally well. Still, he managed to be 9 frames faster than Dragonfangs at the first missile pack despite all the losses, and that is admirable.
Deign, I suggest you to redo the run with P.JBoy's suggestions in mind. That way, not only you will get better times, but that will also motivate Dragonfangs to play more carefully. ;) Until someone finds a sequence break in Fusion (or until the hell freezes over), no-one is going to do the third 0% run, so it should be as good as possible.
And please, for the love of all that is holy, next time turn the stereo sound on. %)
If I'm not mistaken, Partizan is ATT +39, Mystletain is ATT +36 / Holy, and is almost twice faster to attack with. You waste ~4 seconds at most to take it and it will save more time during the fights with Great Armor and Death. Obviously, I vote for Mystletain.
BTW, you're now 32 seconds ahead of Atma, and nearly 26.5 seconds ahead of your own first try. And it's kinda awesome.
Honestly, I would like seeing that many people trying to TAS NES Metroid, Super Metroid or Zero Mission. With all the linearity (I mean, "unbreakability" and the lack of significant time-saving techs) Fusion provides, the core difference between different runs in the same category mostly lies in better timing precision and handling of the game engine. Nothing revolutional.
Deign, I've watched your run in the morning, and all I can say is that it looks very good. Some deeper analisys may follow when I return home.
Not as far as I know.
BTW, I've found a way to hit Manticore three times with a single spear (not that it would save any time in your run, but still…): you must stand ~on the same height as Manticore and shoot the spear while its head is barely on-screen. Then if you come closer, you'll see that it's being hit three times instead of two.
