Well, AFAIR, Death's Scythe is a somewhat slow weapon compared to say, Final Guard's sword. It *may* help in luck manipulation, but it certainly *will* slow the process down.

I do think, however, that it's a bad thing the name TASVideos doesn't exactly speak for itself. What is "TAS"? A lot of people don't know this. A lot of people do know what a "NES" is, though, and will get the idea that these are indeed probably videos of games being played, even if it turns out there's more than just NES videos.
Very good point, Omega.

But it does accord with the statement that: 1) everybody can do that, 2) it's not easy to produce a good movie.

there's no reason for artifical limitations. If a user really wants to do such a conversion (e.g. for different releases of the same game), just let him. Sure, problems will arise when the consoles have a different amount of buttons, but don't make it more restrictive than you have to.
Actually, this feature opens great new possibilities for bigame movies!

Have any of them touched Zero Mission? It really would be nice to see more from that game.
Well, yeahkinda. I don't quite get this Fusion-centrism, either (but I don't really feel like trying to convince M2K2 people into TASing Super Metroid/Zero Mission/anything else, as well). But it's already a progress, anyway. :)

Just to make sure all of the interested persons know: The Dark Knight is making a 100% TAS of Fusion (like Dragonfangs's 0% run, this one doesn't aim for fastest time, but rather for showing off cool looking moves). And even more: Dragonfangs is planning to redo his 0% run (this time aiming for fastest completion) to obsolete Megafrost's. Granted the only major (major?) improvement would come from double Core-X shots, it all depends on who'll be the first to submit the movie. So, beware: seems like M2K2 is on a TASing spree. :D

Nice article, Warp. I agree with you on most of the points.

Hey, I got the same idea a couple of years ago, when I was playing "Crying/Bio Hazard" on Genesis. It has a similar feature, and I think it's possible to beat it without a single shot. Anyway, very nice movie you have there. Waiting for more. :)

I hate how the article makes it seem like "Traditional Speenrunners" versus "Tool Assisted speedrunners". And it says you use hacked games which is wrong.
What in the world are you talking about? o_0

Accusations of "fakeness" miss the point of the tool assisted scene. Even the idea of "cheating" misses the point. These speed runs are created for entertainment, for the sake of pushing the game to its very limits and seeing what can be achieved when the abilities of the player are enhanced. The runs are not achieved by cheating - the games are not hacked, and cheating is discouraged.

The more information they have, the worse. Better to avoid that potential situation, I say.
Well, as I'm fairly familiar with that matter, I'd say nobody's gonna hunt you unless they live in the same city, and know where to find you in that city. And it becomes even more complex if they don't know how you look, thorough IP tracking is not a trivial task, either. So I don't see a reason to be *that* paranoid, just mind the security when leaving your home address/phone.

When editing using Hex Editors, (for example Megaman) it will include enemies moves too, Am I Right?
To store enemies' movement, you'll need to store a ton of variables each frame (basically, a complete memory snaphot). The movies are just records of your keypressings.

That's not a unique function, as every single hexeditor allows the same. :) Also, what is an "S" in the pressed button code? "Start" or "Select"?

Trazz, your skill in manipulating the enemies into jumping off the edges gets better and better. I laughed almost all the time. :D Now I really think this movie should get a star. It's extremely short, extremely well played, extremely representative as a TAS, and, what's more important, extremely funny.

I'm not thinking of fraud in an intentional sense, but more of a corrupted rom, perhaps? The only reason I ask is that this glitch seems to go against the "movie should look like it could have been played with an authentic hardware" and "We do not accept hacked games" rules. It may very well not break either of those, but it seems to and I'm not experienced enough to know for sure.
A video game like Tetris is nothing but a complicated list of commands which must be executed on a player's input. Emulator itself can't add any new commands or severely corrupt the old ones. It's just the game itself that was designed to fit human's ability to play. There are no games that could need, for example, 30 Hz input (that is, mashing one or more buttons 30 times a second) to continue. That's just impossible. Sometimes games don't know what to do in such a case (that is, an inhuman ability), and they may go a little bit insane, which is the case you're seeing here. :) So, there's nothing wrong with it. If you watch some other videos with the "abuses programming errors" tag, you'll see much more crazy examples of that.

about stamina though, I admire the patience the best players have to play/rewind thousands of time the same 2 seconds of the game just to be sure to squeeze as much frames as possible.
That has nothing to do with stamina, that's a matter of persistence. You still can leave the game at a given frame and continue it at any time. You can't do such a thing in a single-segmented run, that's what I mean.

In terms of strategy and route planning, maybe. In terms of actual reflexes and stamina, very unlikely.

There is a whole lot of movies which have 1 or less seeds. If that seeder is not dtm, then I'm all out of ideas.
