:D Здравствуй, Транкейтед. В следующий раз не забудь поставить мягкие знаки после букв «т» в слове «чуть-чуть». ;) Вообще, хороший у вас тут форум, мне нравится.

Yep, same here. There won't be any sensible russian Diablo translations for that reason. %)

Sanscrit is considered a dead language, as no country actively teaches it.
Teaching is not much of a problem, communicating is. As with my English, any studied language quickly stagnates without regular practice with its carriers. And where do you find a Sanscrit speaker? That's one of the main reasons I refused to study Ithkuil, but it's still on my prime list, as I found it the greatest constructed language ever since Latin (and maybe even greater).

Russian may not be the most popular language, but that doesn't make it any less desirable. I learned the alphabet conversion for it ~5 years ago and was pretty intrigued from there. However, I doubt I'll ever seriously learn Russian, since I hear it is terribly hard to learn.
Well, not that terrible, but yeah, sure it is hard. Especially with those mile-long lists of exclusions from almost every rule, not to mention those ever-changing accents where even us the native speakers make mistakes quite often. >_<

Is it? I learned Russian in school for two years (but forgot pretty much all of it again later on).
Sadly, it is. Too hard to be popular, especially for a non-european (especially for a non-east-european!). However, I was quite surprised when you said you studied it at school. Was that in Germany?

Well I thought teasers are to be made as sweet as possible, to raise the tension… As with movies (cinematic, not speedruns), for example. A two-minute teaser often looks much better than the movie itself. But, judging from the effort Saturn seem to put in that run, I wholeheartedly believe the whole movie will be that great. Maan, this waiting is almost intolerable. :D

I'm from Russia, and my native language is… umm… Russian (surprised, eh?). :D Next, I understand written English (a bit worse with spoken English, but oh well…) and my speech is fairly good (but without any external help nor my personal motivation, most of the efforts are drawn to "trying not to make it worse", as I find myself constantly forgetting great parts of the English vocabulary, so now it's far from perfect), though it's a bit harder in "live" conditions… Still, I think a month or two of staying anywhere in England would pump my level up to an appropriate condition. Games like Diablo II also help when it comes to its vast vocabulary of synonyms (even my English teachers didn't know all of them, heheh). Another nice thing is to watch various movies in English (Monthy Python films are good for that), and with English subtitles. I also can decipher a bit of German, French, Spanish and Polish, and some more of Latin/Esperanto. BTW, I plan to study Latin (all by myself, as it now seems to be usual for me) within this or next year, as it greatly helps in understanding some other European languages. As you can see, I'm rather interested in linguistics (a "downside" of being an INTP, lol). :) I also understand some other Slavic languages as they're all pretty similar.

I plan to learn Russian within the next 10 years.
And that's pretty unusual since Russian is extremely unpopular, well, almost everywhere on the planet. :) But if you want an advice, feel free to ask (as I'm fairly familiar with all the cultural context that influenced the language for the last 10—15 years).

Everybody thinks Starwars is that great. But not me. I think Dune is better. Atleast story etc. :D
In fact, Dune is better when it comes to story, screenplay etc., but SW has definitely got more of that entertaining value in it. Dunno about the game, it didn't appeal to me that much (maybe because I don't like adventure games at all). The second part is a whole different story, of course.

ARGH!!! Saturn, are you still saying this is not frame perfect? o_0 Those are the most precise movements I've ever seen so far in a SM speedrun, assisted or not! Holy crap, man… indeed, you are totally nuts. Well, in a good sense, of course. :D Wish you luck on your progress. This project of yours seem more and more interesting every week. (A hint: next time try to lower the sample rate of the audio track, or encode it in mono — those artifacts sound horrible. :)) )

Saturn, how's the progress with your RBO run? When to expect full AVI/SMV (approximately, of course)?

Very, very professionally done! You're saying this is your first TAS? Man, I'm impressed. o_0 Although there are some tiny spots of wasted frames spotted by Zurreco, but anyway, this is a great run (and I think only Zurreco himself can do it faster). I'd vote yes if I could. :D Edit: Well, now I can. Another yes for you.

Oh my, this is so wicked fast! o_0 I think the only thing that can prevent this movie from getting a star is that casual audience probably isn't able to follow your movements. %) Anyway, it's a sure 'yes' from me — despite the fact I cannot vote yet.

measuring them in terms of speed, terms of in-game decisions (challenge level for example), or game recorded achievement to name a few. there's other goals that can be measured objectively. it's those that drive its quality. edit: entertainment (or any other construct) as an indirect result, not as a meaning to initiate. a recording to be judged by objective measure is one that has meaning to its author and is one that is capable to compete over
There can't be such thing as objective judgement, anyway. Any kind of judgement involve subjective measuring, and sometimes it may help. Imagine a situation when one TAS is 30 minutes long, but it's full of action and don't have dull moments at all — even pauses are filled with some different attempts at entertaining the audience. Another TAS for the same game is 30 seconds faster, done frame perfectly, but is boring to watch because all the action is utterly predictable, every in-game pause is a pain to watch, etc. Objectively, the former is slower and the latter is faster. And subjectively? I guess it'll be quite the opposite. What method of judgement should be applied in this case? (BTW, even this choice will be purely subjective.) I agree that such words as "art" and "entertainment" are pure subjective things: each of us, being influenced by various experiences and sources of information, have his own definition of art and entertainment. I guess it may depend on the judging audience, the game itself, the author of the run, the chosen route/strategy/whatever, etc. So there can't be any trustworth measures of entertainment in the TAS itself — it's up to us — the individuals — to decide, what's entertaining and what's not. Any kind of polls may be misleading and nonrepresentative in this case. But, with speed being the primary objective for every TAS, what to do with the situation described above? Is it entertainment or is it perfectionism? (Yes I know there should be both, but not all cases allow that. Besides, there may be no other choice but to obsolete one of the runs — especially if all other TAS characteristics are identical.) Edit: added emphasis.

Super Metroid 100% [SNES] Uniracers [SNES] Earthworm Jim 1, 2 [SNES] Alien Soldier [Genesis] Dune [Genesis] Metroid Fusion 0% and 100% [GBA] Super Spy Hunter [NES] That's kinda my favourite games, and most of them would make beautiful TASes. Well, actually with some of them already being developed, which is a great pleasure for me. But of all that list, Super Metroid 100% is a must.

Actually I'd prefer to try the hack first, just because it'll take much more time and interest to beat a new game than to watch 20 mins of someone else's gameplay. :) Please proceed with your work, Saturn, and don't forget to inform us about the updates. Good luck tou you!

Actually, if lossless quality itself isn't really needed (one could do it himself with an appropriate emulator and any video grabbing utility), can any other encoding algorithm be implemented? Something assymetrical, maybe IFS will do the trick? The encoding will be slow of course, but the main goal is fast decoding and great quality on simple images.

Uh… Links seem to be dead. :| Both …/Fusion.zip and …/fusion0percent.zip. And I'm sure I've already downloaded one of these before.
