Now that I think of it, can we please postpone the discussion of general hack merits until after all the vocal parties have seen the movie in question? That would be much appreciated.

Well, arguably that kind of formula isn't applicable to Extra Mario Bros. It doesn't play like a typical Mario game at all (although it does play like some other NES platformers).

No, that's to be expected. Shatterhouse is what happens when Cardboard starts TASing.

I'd rather see more hand shattering, actually. This is a very underdeveloped theme.

Half a year ago True and RyanC were trying to do this, here's the original thread. I think they should be merged, btw.

Re: locking, I wouldn't naturally support this decision, but nearly all the pictures posted so far are awfully bad, but still not up to "so bad it's good" level*. Putting this thread out of its misery was to be expected. Don't feel bad about it. Btw, if you want something "random", videogame-related and high-quality, I suggest Eegra's Hilarity Comics. * — Except the first post, but that's because wellbe6 is a child.

Finally a long-awaited best-ending improvement! Great job you guys, lots of inventive stuff there. Well-deserved yes vote! These two runs are just awesome, I can't really decide which of them should get a star. For one, any% is overall faster-paced and has a surprise early ending, but here you have a whole additional level and more new tricks. Hmm, tough decision. I'll probably lean towards best ending, especially since the any% has already had a star for something like a year. Long live Sunsoft! I'll now go and download the soundtrack cause this TAS totally deprives me from hearing even a single song to its end.

My only regret is less time listening to the great music because you tear through the game so quickly.
Haha, I hear you! Gimmick's music is one of my favorite game soundtracks ever.

Most impressive! Definitely waiting for a best ending run. :)

Finally I see an FPS TAS that is both highly dynamic and not a headache to watch! Never thought the game was so fluid, either. This is great stuff.

There is a condition that will greatly increase the chances of this run being published: timed subtitles in English, explaining your actions and major plot turns. You can insert them using FCEUX itself. This is actually a good practice for any game with obscure tricks. Obviously, it still must be interesting as an RPG run, all things considered.

Very elegant solution for 3-8! I agree with gocha in regards to improvements. Furthermore, I suggest putting this submission on hold (instead of canceling) until snc stops finding new stuff. Thankfully the newly found improvements aren't going to affect judgment in any unwanted way.

Sonic + Metroid. Within a Deep Forest? Gunstar Super Heroes + Metroid. Castlevania + Metroid… wait, that one's been done. Planescape: Torment + ADoM. Alien Soldier + Radiant Silvergun. Iwanaga?

I couldn't tell offhand what the improvements were when watching this, but this is at least as good as the previous version in any case, and my mind was successfully blown by some of the solutions once again. Resounding yes!

andymac has done some work on the DS version here. I'm very interested in checking the original game's demos, though, if only because I like it way more than the port.

Don't worry, there is no such word as "contributer", so naturally you wouldn't be one. :)

Changing definition won't help because it's the heuristic algorithm that detects a virus. You know what heuristics is? "This is not a known virus but it looks similar."

From the "live discussion" in the chat: <omnipotententity> http://www.virustotal.com/en/analisis/08ef333126bcd365aa0c82ca5b407792db6e811a302d03bb0d9063b25a52d6f3-1274951764 <omnipotententity> GuidMorrow: I ran the executable inside a debugger on my virtual machine, I did not pass any arguments, it accessed no files on my computer, it created no files on my computer and it opened no internet connections. <omnipotententity> ... GuidMorrow, I ran it in a debugger and I'm looking at the assembly code, it's not a virus. I seriously consider the issue resolved.

Large keyint values should be able to provide a lot more benefit on less complex scenes. Also, you should keep in mind that this setting determines the maximum amount of frames encoded without a keyframe, not minimum. Besides, modern decoders are able to use non-keyframes as a reference as well. Thus, in practice one never needs to wait for a minute during seeking even with abnormally high values when using an up-to-date decoder. If it isn't up-to-date, or is hardware-based (iPod), or not easily updateable (consoles), problems may occur.
