Damn... So no zero-star game for a while... Well, the Lobby Glitch is still incredibly useful, TAS-wise.

Yeah, I was sure that wouldn't work... The column behind toad possibility is still open, though.

Yes, but as far as I know, you can only use Toad to get into them, which leaves only one column.... You can probably also use MIPS, but that sorta defeats the purpose.

Fortunately the basement is pretty large. There has to be a spot somewhere to BLJ.
But unfortunately, the basement is built pretty solidly, polygon-speaking... The only place that comes to mind is using Toad to merge into the pillar behind him. Hopefully, there would be an invisible wall behind there. You'd be at a bad angle, and you would have very little room to BLJ, but it could work...

Finding a BLJ spot in the garden might be helpful?
Garden? As in the courtyard? If so, then no, because that's a loading point... If we found a BLJ opportunity in the basement, Toad would be unnessecary, as would be every star in the whole game, except for Bowser's Sub.

Possibly... Well, one thing's for sure: we're one big step closer to beating the game with zero stars.

But, as I've been saying, it opens up more star opportunities for 16-star runs... For instance, if I were making a TAS 16-star run, I'd probably do something like this... Star 1: Chip Off Whomp Star 2: Top of Fortress Star 3: Wild Blue Star 4: Blast Away Wall Star 5: Wall Kicks Star 6: Baby Penguin Star 7: Bowser Coins Star 8: LLL Coins Star 9: LLL Elevator Star 10: Big Bird Star 11: Pyramid Star 12: Rolling Rocks Star 13: Emergency Exit Star 14: Floating Island? Star 15: Toad

ok, now i see where the BLJ is, but the only way to get inside the column is by going to the stairs below and jumping up, so it doesn't save time if only to skip door opening animations. But it's very important in the 0 star completion goal.
Well, it looks like it would save time getting to B1... Normally, you'd get the door animation, then have to LJ to the trap door... Maybe not.

I wonder if it would be possible to BLJ from the Lobby directly to the Bowser 2 loading point... Bypassing the whole basement loading point. Then, we wouldn't even need B1.

Holy crap, you did it... You did it... You got into Bowser with zero stars... History has been made... Congratulations as the first person to do it! Yes, I'd have to agree, this is probably the hardest glitch to do in SM64 so far (Wish I could've found something major, but simple, like getting to the top of the castle starless). It's even hard to get BLJing without going outside the pillar. And once you do that, you gotta TAS to aim. Nevertheless, it opens up an incredibly wide range of possibilities for new TASs...

So, if you use this in your 16-star run, not only could you get to Bowser quickly and before 8 stars, you could get anywhere else in the lobby with zero stars and no opening door sequence.
So does this mean you can beat the game with 0 stars or that you can enter any level with 0 stars?
Nah, you still need 15 stars to get MIPS and get into Bowser 2, but it does mean you can get into BoB, WF, JRB (I know you can already), CCM, PSS, B1, HMC, CotMC, VCUtM, LLL, and SSL right from the start. Now that you have such a great variety of stars to choose from, the next 16-star TAS would be a lot faster.

Btw, BLJ is about being able to longjump many times per second, so it applies to various situations, it would be bad to enumerate them all because you wouldn't have an open mind to new possibilities.
Very well said, I completely agree with you. I was just giving some examples of where you can BLJ... I know there aren't a fixed amount of places. I'm finding more every day; I even hound one in JRB. Anyway, someone suggested to me that I show you the Lobby Glitch, because you said you were doing a 16-star run after this. Hopefully you can try it out a little. EDIT: One of the guys on the GameFAQs board is testing out BLJing with the Lobby Glitch, and he says... "Ok now ive gotten into the little bump by the toad, into JRB aquarium, into key door #1 and #2 castle court yard many times and the entry way to the castle and outside, it is definite with TAS you can get into bowser and thus get into the basement with 0 stars" So, if you use this in your 16-star run, not only could you get to Bowser quickly and before 8 stars, you could get anywhere else in the lobby with zero stars and no opening door sequence.

Hey nice glitches. I'm not sure the BLJ is possible there since you need a slope, stairs, or a moving platform to do that. But then I think you found that weird BLJ on the bridge in CCM so what do I know. The various camera glitches don't seem usable for speedrunning but are fun none the less. Getting to bowser 1 early would allow for being able to choose stars from the basement for a 16 star run (but it will still be a 16 star run).
Yep, that's what we're hoping for... The glitch would be revolutionary if it could get Mario into the basement with 0 stars... And nope, you don't need a slope to BLJ... You can use a slope, a wedge, an elevator, and some invisible walls (like the one in the pillar). So, if we can build up enough speed, we can get through the walls to the Bowser 1 loading point, and hit it under the trap door, Wiggler's Cave-style.

If anyone's interested, here's the Lobby Glitch. As I mentioned in the vid, I said it may have been possible to BLJ on the invisible wall... We're still developing this, but it looks like it may be possible to BLJ straight to the Bowser 1 loading point...

Yeah, you'd just get stuck in a BRoD. Anyway you try to get into the castle from the outside (unless, of course, you use the door), you'll end up in a BRoD.

FODA, you're 26? Woah... sorry for treating you like an equal, instead of a wise elder. And about the bobomb trick, in virtually every video of SM64 I've ever seen (speedrun or not), no one has ever kicked a bobomb, even when it would come in extremely handy. I didn't see it in this either, so I naturally assumed FODA didn't know about it.

Did you really HAVE to grab the ceiling to get that one coin below the wiggler room on your way to 100 coin star? It seems like you could have just jumped to it without grabbing.
It's harder than it looks. You definitely have to hang on to the ceiling... To FODA: Keep the bobomb-kick-trick in mind for future 100-coin routes.

I didn't think so... I guess it wasn't one of those things that was so simple, yet completely undiscovered. I did find one thing that seemed ridiculously simple... To kill a bobomb, instead of throwing it or activating it (and waiting for it to explode), you can just kick it. Fast and simple.

The same place it says going up a long, steep flight of stairs while BLJing will exponentially increase your speed.

Wow, nice trick. Yu should bring that to the Secrets topic on the GameFAQs board, we seriously need some new material. To my knowledge, that's never been discovered before.

Nice test. If there's one thing that I would change, it would be going into fixed cam when you get to the slide, just like the CCM slide. Otherwise, it was perfect.

Wow, real nice... The Koopa race was phenominal, and the 100-coin route was superb. Keep up the great work, FODA. PS: I know it's a little ahead of time, but is there any chance the House in the Sky star in RR will be any faster?

I found a weird glitch the other day and haven't been able to replicate since I mysteriously pulled it off, and couldn't do it even after 2 hours of trying, but in the basement I was screwing up the camera in Mario Cam so the camera was directly above mario allowing you to see through all the walls where the key door is. I did a double jump backwards and a mid air kick and appeared underneath the platform with the two coins in the main lobby, from there it might be possible to get to a useful spot. Although probally unlikely. The key door would be probally be useless since it would say "this door is locked bwa bwa bwa", I don't know if glitching through the 8 star door would have any use either apart from avoiding the open door sequence. The best possible use would be to long jump into the second bowser room although it probally doesn't even phisically exist at that point in time.
Believe it or not, I found this out about a week ago, and I was just about to make a video of it showing my discovery...It's not too hard to do. And yes, it's a fun little glitch, but game-completion-wise, it's useless.
