I actually did, but what you were seeing is the 3rd run through of my stream. I only highlighted the last run through. Sorry. Basically, that jump crossed a check point and forced me to figure out how to optimize a way of getting to the check point faster...so that I don't have to wait for the CPU to do it. It basically saved a little more than 1.5 seconds.

First up, great TAS, really enjoyed it.
Thanks. It certainly was a shock to see how much effort it took in order for this to occur.

I have no problem with a submission with just the Knight league. TAS videos has broken videos up before with different games. I would have no problems with publishing this now and then having it obsoleted later with the full run. That way TAS videos gets the benefit of having both up.
This makes sense, since the previous TAS for this game is a single track. I would definitely think the next step is to provide the entire 3 leagues...provided that this gets accepted. In addition, it seems that the majority of postings reflect on the creation of IGT...which will take time to convert over. :( But, I don't think it is a complete loss.

@Spikestuff Thanks for you comment. Since there is no previous F-Zero TAS to compare this with, it became a discussion as to how it would be received as a League TAS. We thought that this might be an any% (Credits Reached), whereas all 3 leagues could be a 100% (The mastering celebration). So, being the first one...we knew that there might be differences of opinions. I am certainly interested in the opinions of TASVideos in order to know how to proceed. As for entertainment, I can understand the first league not offering much, but the excitement certainly comes from the Queen and King leagues...as there are many TAS only tricks to be demonstrated.

@fsvgm777 Thanks for you comment. Being the first full TAS of a completed segment has certainly been a discussion. Some think it is completed when you see credits...some thing...why not the whole game? As for WIP...we'll see what happens. This will certainly determine the course of the rest of this TAS.

@Warepire Thanks for you comments. I certainly spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to squeeze everything out of it. Coming from the Super Metroid community, we tend to think in real-time for than game time, since it is more accurate and forces the use of more skills that wouldn't be seen in an IGT. But, with F-Zero, EdwardFourZero6 and I discussed that real-time might be the best option...although I do like the fact of seeing the faster "last lap" times. After submitting this, I was made aware that there are now 3 different ways to do this now: 1. Real Time (Fastest Credits) 2. Real Time (Fewest inputs) 3. In-Game Timing Now...what to do now...we'll have to figure that one out.

@OmnipotentEntity I'm not really sure about that. Even with the RTA run of this game, according to EdwardFourZero6, no runner takes the chance in coming in 2nd place on certain tracks. So, Master may not make the cars stay closer to the 1st place runner. I've even noticed this on Death Wind 1...where the difference was 7 frames saved, but being very, very precise to execute a 2nd place. I was fortunate enough to have a brown car in the way to help out there, which turned it in 15 frames saved. That might be a clue to how hard it must be for master to "Rubber Band" the cards near the finish line. But, thinking about that...It might be true....even for a tiny bit.

@hopper Thanks. I do enjoy streaming my work. It's also fun to participate with so many others in trying to find the absolute end of a game, in every aspect. In regards to Master level (stating if an sram was allowed) it would only help with speed boosting from the cars. Each level that you increase, the cars relative acceleration is slightly more. So then end result would be a faster first lap and perhaps an increase in random cars popping up. That is my guess, but i can't really show an example to prove it.

@boct1584 Thanks for showing me that. I didn't realize there was a rule in place for it. However, I had the mindset of always using a fresh rom without SRAM information and didn't realize that my own approach was agreeing more with the rules of this site. So, this puts to rest any argument over my lack of master level.

@Moozooh Thanks man for your comments. It does seem to be a controversy with any chosen timing methods. I think I'm going to decide how to approach the next TAS after I get a good feel from the collective. It will be interesting to see what people think. Personally, I am for the fastest time possible for real-time that reaches the credits asap. In this TAS, I cut 37 frames from the ending to still allow for the IGT to remain the same. But Masterjun demonstrate this further...where the car crosses in 2nd place, yet this still beats the game. It is a toss up and I'm going to have to decide quickly.

@Masterjun I wasn't able to see the video until now. I wondered how that would be accepted, so I only cut enough to keep the same lap time where I previously held the accelerator until I crossed the finish line. I just wonder, what would you suggest for the next step to move this forward?

@samurai goroh The Pausing Glitch is something that I feel voids the category for what I've committed too. Opions do arise in regards to the fact that some would call it a glitched run, which is what I wanted to avoid as well. But thanks for your input, as it does bring up interesting points to how different approaches to TASing this game can be done.

@Masterjun Thanks for your comment. I completely understand your choice of In-Game time. I come from the Super Metroid community where we push for Real Time, so i have naturally become accustom to tactics that reduce the timing for the entire game completion. In this case, it is the choice I made in order to satisfy the requirement of "Completing the game as fast as possible". However, since I like having the fastest lap times...I did create individual inputs files for me to go back and encode for personal viewing. If that is something that you would like to have...I can provide them. Again, the choices I made for this TAS are purely preferential. If I were to do In-Game time, then the opposite side of the coin would be presented as a downside. Anyway, this goal of this TAS goes for fastest time of completion, by frame count....where 1 frame is 1/60 of second.

@E-Dragon Thank you for your comments and appreciation. I'm glad to see that someone else notices that this is not an easy game to perfect...especially with TASing. In regards to TASing the next 2 leagues...yes. I am more excited to do these two, because of the harder situations and possible TAS only ramp jumps. As for Pause Abusing, I'm against that use...since I believe it is painful to watch. There are just some games that I wish to watch in its pure form. :)

@Challenger Thanks for you statement and your appreciation for my work, but I must disagree with you on your two points. 1. Aiming for in-game time is very inaccurate on NTSC, where 1/100 and 2/100 are the time for the alternation between frames. This means that 1.5 seconds (in-game time) will go by for 60 frames. Since the TAS actually is designed with Real-time in mind...you could run this TAS against an in-game TAS and find that this one would beat it by roughly 3 seconds. Additionally, the only way to reference the speed of this TAS is to compare it with human runs...in this case, we have Edwards numbers for examination. Aiming for real-time also means that the cut scenes are shorter, by excluding the long celebration theme. 2. In regards to beating the game, this is also not true. Where as you have any%, 100% , low% for other games...the game offers 3 categories for grand prix. The game has been beaten in one of those areas. If this is not the case, then TASVideos should not have published a Practice Mode round by Saturn as a "Beaten Game". Additionally, speedruns.com offers these as individual categories...because beating the game is done in a variety of ways. Additionally, Master level cannot be achieved in a TAS...unless you want to supply everyone with "Save State" information. This is simply not possible with a "Fresh" rom for everybody to run the inputs against. I'm also sure that nobody would care to watch a TAS where you run through all levels to get Master status so that it can run through them again. The TAS would be extremely long and ridiculous, IMO.

Sniq about the Ball Pump. Will it save time with Spring Ball? I assume it would considering you can Spring Ball through the tunnels which I would think will cause the falling technique needed for it. Might save less time though because you cannot alternate inputs.
This depends on how springball is being used. What we have found is that if you are trying to enter into a tunnel without a speed that is greater than the momentum of morph ball rolling, then getting on the ground, where a bounce is about to occur, is helped by using Ball Pump. If you are moving greater than that rolling momentum, then springball bouncing at the right time will keep your speed moving and ball pumping is not necessary. Although, you can use this same technique to change the timing of when that sprinball bounce occur, and in some cases...you can actually float across a tunnel to a certain degree.

The Ridley and Mother Brain fights were of interest to me due to the first time that any avoidable lag was removed, that could be removed. With both of these bosses, charge beam was used. Anytime you turnaround...you will loose, at best, 1 frame. For this low% category...that means a lot of time was saved by having moonwalk and turn around-less fighting. In regards to massive lag reduction, Kraid is the other boss fight that has cut an enormous amount off, percentage wise...as a number frames of lag were cut over inputs provided by Taco. One of the top priorities of this TAS was to reduce all possible lag, which sniq has done an amazing job.

One more point Invariel. I provided a Lua Script to confirm the map tile visitation, in case you didn't see that in my submission. That will show you everything was visited. With the use of S.M.I.L.E (our map editor for creating hacks) we are able to confirm the count of square for each area, thus leading my lua script to contain the max values of squares that need visiting.

Thanks Invariel. For the Ceres run, Taco has performed that after I finished the early parts of my TAS. As you know...TASing Super Metroid is not an easy task, in regards to going back and correcting stuff. It basically invalidates the rest and requires rescripting (RNG and various things change). Good point about Brinstar. I'll have to revisit that idea on my 3rd version. Sometimes things never work out as planned and I have to use an alternate strategy. But it will definitely be reconsidered. The Norfair situation was a bit different. I didn't have wave beam and was unable to shoot the farming pit that you are referring to. The angle of my shot was not steep enough. However, you are correct that a rearrangement of visitation could speed up things. I appreciate your feedback. This 2nd version was a fun process, but is very taxing. In total, the original script with reworking took about 15 months to produce. So, I'm reluctant to start anything at this moment, as I need rest from this.

Haven't watched the whole run, only bits and pieces, but I saw a part of the twitch video where you were unsure of how I charged a bluesuit on the treadmills in WS. I'm fairly sure that's not an emulation error but something that happens when you unmorph at exactly the right distance from the floor (in such a way that there's no airtime before hitting the floor but also so that you don't touch the floor until you're fully unmorphed). For whatever reason this will make you unaffected by the treadmill. Possibly related to this is that if you do it correctly your vertical speed will not be reset like it usually is when touching the ground, but will freeze in the value it had just before landing until you jump/crouch which will also make you affected by the treadmill again. Might watch more of the run later to see if there's any more interesting questions that are brought up in the run.

I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX
