When was I rude? all i said was I'm not a fan of extremely arbitrary categories and everyone dog piled ME. and even if i was rude, so what? Spikestuff is a rude fucking asshole to everyone, and has even used sockpuppets to harass others on youtube. But I guess it's ok if you're a member of staff.

I've noticed for the past few weeks my comments seem to be visible only to me. Have I been shadowbanned or something? not sure why, never spammed or anything. the only thing I could possibly think of is that i complained a bit about too many arbitrary goal tases on a pokemon vid i think, though that's hardly rule breaking.

What if you were to use the language glitch for most of the run, and then before oxide you save, reset, pick a language and fight oxide? or would that take too much time to drive all the way to a save monitor and wait for the restart?

Grinding is really not that big of a deal in this game (it's not like for example dragon quest or phantasy star where grinding is basically required). Enemy stats are low enough that even base Leaf should survive most of the game. You would just need to wait for promotions a few chapters later on normal, and would need 2-4 extra turns to complete a few maps. And a bit of extra RNG manipulation would be needed for more bonus moves. The difference in final time would probably be around 10-15 minutes.

Doubled experience means higher stats sooner, and quicker promotions to allow access to high rank weapons sooner. how is that not an easy mode? In fact, FE2 has the exact same system of double exp behind a cheat and there it is explicitly called Easy.

The difference with FE6 is that hard mode is only unlocked after beating the game, so only normal mode is accessible without dirty SRAM. A more accurate example is FE8, which has all difficulties at the beginning, and is played from it's hardest as is standard.

That will be pretty annoying when trying to determine what improvements were made in a normal version of a run. Or would a normal mode run just obsolete it regardless? If so, it seems pretty pointless accepting this if it would just be so easily obsoleted by a movie that merely follows the rules.

The fact that this thread was required to made and that there are 3 pages worth of discussion is clear evidence that comments irrelevant to a movie should not be allowed in a submission. There is an offtopic board specifically made for blogs and soapboxes. That stuff should stay there.

A cheat code's a cheat code. It would be fine if it was for a harder difficulty, but this is for an easy mode in everything but name. Even if it wasn't behind a cheat code, would it be acceptable to pick it when the normal mode is harder?

now this is a pleasant surprise. would've preferred if you didn't use the easy mode cheat code, but still pretty cool.

so will leaving it on cause any problems for GBA dumps? I don't seem to notice a difference but just want to be safe.

Apologies for the noob question. What does this do when configuring AVIs in bizhawk? I've been trying to record a GBA tas and it didn't seem to making any difference either way in size or quality so I just left it on.

what are the rules on using saves from another game, or linking up to another game during a run?

I think TR143 (the author of the TAS posted by Toothache) ported some of these scripts to BizHawk, you can either find him on Youtube or in Discord (FE Speedrun Community).
Is it this one? https://github.com/vykan12/fire-emblem/blob/master/scripts/FE_GBA.lua Because if it is, it's still giving me the same error.

I consider it is time to break old paradigms and move forward with TASes that starts with non-clear SRAM. Imagine the fact that someone decides to TAS HHM, both the LNM/ENM and the HHM TASes would be quite different from each other, specially considering that the first would be really slower. The Speedrun community already does this and I really believe we should move towards that path. Considering that the game RNG always starts with the same values when you restart, I do not see this as a big problem.
I think it would be best for there to be one run from a fresh start, and a separate HHM run.

In regards to this, the LUA scripts needs to be re-written (at least, most of it) for it to work on BizHawk, so you cannot simply use the same script between both emulators.
That's a shame. I suppose there isn't any new scripts or alternative methods for RNG manipulation right?

I'd rather they start from clean SRAM. It doesn't feel like there's enough of a difference to warrant starting from save. I quite like seeing how they break the tutorial too. If we really need to skip it, I believe the japanese version can do it with transfer data from fe6, though I don't know if that is allowed. The jap version really should be used anyway for the 3x effective damage. Also, I'm having problems running the RNG lua script on Bizhawk. Whenever I try to run it I get the following message:
NLua.Exceptions.LuaScriptException: [string "main"]:7: attempt to call field 'readword' (a nil value)
It works perfectly fine on VBA-rr though.
