Well, hopefully not everybody is so immature to bitch about camera angles when the authors were trying to do something new and different instead of publishing the 'same' run again, right? [inappropriate conduct edited out] EDIT by DarkKobold

Mission statement TASvideos.org is committed to providing the best in tool-assisted speedruns and superhuman play. Our runs are held to high standards, and only high quality runs will be published on the site. We also prefer quality over quantity — a poor quality run will not be accepted whether it is a game new to the site or an improvement to a pre-existing run. Our runs may not be perfect (if that is even possible), but are still high quality and aim to be as entertaining as possible. I'll just go grab some popcorn...
"...providing the best in tool-assisted speedruns and superhuman play." Okay, so you provide the "best." Obviously a run that beats an older run by 3 frames is better than its predecessor. You say they may not be perfect, because obviously no one knows what perfection is, but it also implies that you strive for perfection. If you reject the better run because its camera angles are different, then you might as well accept the 16 star run submitted by Nahoc since everyone thought it was 'more entertaining' than the 0 Star anyway (thus, not striving for perfection, but something different instead). And to clarify, when I said you guys care too much about entertainment, I meant care for it over speed...especially because with speed comes entertainment in itself. I care about entertainment too, but to sacrifice speed for it in a tool-assisted speedrun is just stupid. Also, thank you for not mentioning the rest of my post which supports my claim.

You cannot get into the pipe. There is no point in finding a way around the yellow platform because of this.

You guys care way too much about 'entertainment'. The run is an improvement to an already existing run. Regardless of how the camera changes, it is still better. That should be enough reason to accept it. Entertainment should only be a factor (in publishing) when the point of a movie is not speed running OR if someone adds entertainment to a boring run but is still able to tie/beat the time. I apologize ahead of time for having an opinion since I know basically no one at this site agrees with me.

I find it funny that the last SM64 run's team had spent an immense amount of time and effort on maxing it (with 400000+ rerecords), and look, almost exactly 6 months later it's obsoleted already by a run with "only" ~55000 rerecords (no offense intended to all the authors of the previous SM64 TAS).
It's already obsoleted with 'only' 55000 rerecords because they saved 3 frames and not 25 seconds. For the record, I love this run, and am friends with Mickey/Snark. I followed the progress since they started redoing it. I'm not complaining. But I hate when people act like you just did and talk bull crap when they don't know anything. @Mickey, Snark, and ToT: Great job guys. I loved the new camera angles. It really made it seem like a brand new run. Voting yes, and good luck if you find more improvements. =)

We are in the middle of redoing Iron Gate because mapler found a time saver before the first lift, and I found out that shooting the door locks separately is faster than locking on to all of them at once.

Is that the frame from just before the end of the mall level? I was thinking about recommending that one myself.

I nominate frame 2040/2041 for the screenshot. Try to get past the....darkness...of the plugin I used. Glide64 was being a bitch today. >_> Oh, and obvious yes vote btw.

Well...you managed to obliterate the old run, crush my hopes and dreams, and make me pee my pants a little, all in a matter of 19 minutes. I shall congratulate you with a yes vote.

MUGG, I wouldn't recommend updating to the newest rev. I'd stick with r7318 for now. It has the loading times more accurate than previously. In newer revs, a bit of LLE work has been done and it's causing quite a few desyncs. I tried TASing a shine in SMS and a simple sideflip + dive wouldn't sync after nearly 10 tries. Before that even occured, it had desynced at 3 places prior in the movie...I'll add that it wasn't even that many frames. *edit* Also, Idle Skipping doesn't seem to affect any movies I've made with it turned off then played back with it turned on.

But if I continue with one that doesn't have accurate wait times, doesn't that defeat the purpose of submitting a timed run?

I don't know what to do. I could re-do stuff since I'm not extremely far in and already have frame numbers to go off of. But is it worth it? What if the Dolphin devs update that again to lag differently before I finish the TAS?

How well does jumping maintain speed for Tails/Eggman U-turns? It's always seemed faster to me, but I don't have a memory address for character speed lying around or anything.
Jumping and attempting sharp turns are quite slow compared to running. I tried jumping over rails at some places in Iron Gate and it was multiple frames slower than just running around the corner. I've never had to do a U turn though, so I'm not sure on that. I'm guessing jumping would be faster than just holding the opposite of your original direction.

It would be very difficult to manually edit movie files to get them to sync correctly, which would involve adding the appropriate amount of blank frames to account for the new longer load times.
I don't think that would be difficult since we have the Dolphin input display at our disposal. EDIT Turns out theres much more to editing than just adding blank frames. I can say that after attempting it for 3~ hours, hexing the old dtm to sync with newer revs is basically impossible.

After looking though the revisions, it looks like 7318 might be the one causing the problems. It fixed a bug with disk read speed emulation not working correctly. If you can, try to see if 7317 works with your old movies and if 7318 is the one breaking them.
You are correct. Seems to be 7318. Was this change beneficial overall, and should I attempt to hex edit my input to sync on newer revs? Or continue using 7317 and below?

No. EDIT I feel like a moron for not testing this efficiently, but climbing on the other wall gave me a current time of 15:69. Improvable of course as this was just a quick test. Thanks to SadisticMystic for pointing it out.
