If this is still in development, I would really love to see mouse support added.

I'm attempting a NES Pac-Man TAS just for fun. What do you guys think? Would it be a good candidate for TASing? Thanks, Goldfish edit: oh whoops i guess this is kind of a stupid question now that i know that a NES Pacman thread exists

I can't express how awesome this was. This made me confused, and then it made me not kinda confused?, and then it made me laugh, and by the end I was in hysterics. Truly amazing!!

Did you do anything to manipulate where the next cherry spawns? Since the source code is available, you should have the information necessary to do so. Also, it might be helpful to mention that this is Snake 1.0 by Calin Galeriu et al., to avoid confusion with other possible snake homebrews for the GBA.
1. I did do a couple of maneuvers to prevent a cherry from spawning in one place by blocking it with the snake. 2. That's probably a good idea, I'll mention that

On an assumption, I'm going to state this can be improved. During your input you create gaps within yourself where the cherries would later spawn at and making you do another pattern in order to grab it. In terms of entertainment? No Vote.
1. Probably. It's heavily RNG based, but there are several spots that could use improvement. 2. Yeah, I was learning that that was something to avoid. Unfortunately there were spots where I didn't leave myself enough room to cover everything and not leave gaps. Thanks guys!

I know. However, a TAS does not yet exist on TASvideos. Also, I got the files to download, but they're all C files. Now what? Do I need some sort of compiler?

Hello, Just for the fun of it, I'm trying to do a TAS of Snake. The problem I'm encountering, however, is that I can't find a ROM of it anywhere on any system. There's apparently a version of it for GBA, but the only ROM link for it is broken. Does anyone know of a website where I can get this game? Thanks! -thegoldfish

That's an example of using a hidden coin block to enter a wall, one of the easiest tricks. Warpless TAS and RTA runs of FDS SMB2J use it to go through the pipe in 6-1 all the time.
Ohh ok, that's good to know. Thanks!

May have found a new strategy for 3-1 of SMB2j. Not sure if any TASes use this, but it seems pretty useful: When you come out of the warp, run to the edge of the pipe and jump so you hit one of the blocks. Release the jump button and keep running, and if you hit the wall correctly, you should pass through. Interestingly, this is much easier to pull off than it sounds, and the difficulty (e.g. frame perfect inputs) of strategies doesn't even matter in TAS. If anybody's considering making or improving on a SMB2j warpless TAS that doesn't already use this, it may be a useful trick. Although it may be faster to just skip the pipe altogether, idk. Any thoughts? EDIT: Just learned from this TAS that it is way faster to skip the pipe. Oh well.

Hello! I was wondering if freeruns (runs that go for entertainment rather than fastest completion) were allowed on TASvideos. I don't believe it's addressed anywhere, but I may have missed it in the rules. Thanks!

And if you want TASes that are 'easier' to beat, you can see lists of published TASes by year at http://tasvideos.org/Movies-Y2005.html (for 2006, 2007, 2008, etc. just replace the year in the URL) For 2005 there's a bit of a survivor bias, in that there's an on-going project to obsolete every 2005 TAS so the remaining ones are the hardest to do, but 2006 to like 2010 should have less of this bias. EDIT: Or if you want to TAS a game that has a speedrun but no TAS yet, check out http://tasvideos.org/SDARunsWithoutAPublishedTAS.html

Also, if you don't mind the very dated gameplay experience, Atari 2600 has many possibilities for TASes where you can learn a lot in a pretty simple environment.
Thank you both for the helpful advice! I'll be sure to try all of those.

Hello and welcome! So, are you basically asking for suggestion about games that are easy to TAS? Well, I'm not able to suggest you any titles, because all the games I've picked up turned out to be hard to optimize... But I still have some directions. The first TAS I worked on was an improvement of a published run, and that allowed me to get used with the TASing tools and getting experience at my own pace. I suggest you to try to beat a currently published TAS as well: this will be simpler than starting a project from scratch, because you will be able to access to the documentation provided by the movie that you want to beat and its movie file. I also suggest you to use TAStudio tool from BizHawk. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and to ask help if you have any troubles! ;) Good luck!
Thank you! I'll try that.

Hello! I just started here recently, so I'm generally an amateur TASer. This means I do not have a whole lot of skill in optimization, etc. Does anybody know of any runs I could do that are generally flexible (e.g. that do not require proper optimization, WR times, etc)? Sorry if this question was a little vague, I will clarify if needed. Thank you! EDIT: On second thought, this should have probably gone in Newbie Corner.. Whoops.

Ohh wait, never mind. I had the fm2 file but I was trying to package it with the fm3 file because i thought people might want to edit it, silly me. Thank you! EDIT: Also, thank you Mothrayas for the project file compression method!

I'm trying to upload a run of world 1-1 of Super Mario Bros., but my file is awfully big - specifically 4750 kilobytes (even in a zip folder). The size limit is 150k. I don't really get this because some runs on this site are wayyy bigger. What's going on? Is there a way I can get the filesize down?
