If I'm the only person that wants it, not really. I thought other people might want it.

Do you mean a download encode, or another YouTube encode?
I've long since just did a re-encode based on the Youtube encode using AVS to crop it, but I meant a non-Youtube encode. I did an AVCHD encode of the Super Mario 64 0-Stars TAS a few days ago to test my BDP at 10, 20, 36, 40, and 72Mb/s. Regretfully, I deleted the output files and the source files, but I still have the script source, So if anybody wants some I could whip them up again. Or I could host the scripting somewhere.

As long as it isn't like the pure speed TASs of Sonic 3. Someone needs to make a screensaver or something of random stages scrolling by.

"Note: Due to a slight flaw in the subtitles, new torrents will be up shortly. " Does the error apply to the Mirror at archive.org too? Or are those copies ok?

Eternal SPU Plugin is the best sound plugin. You can use MIDAS Plugin, which is better than TAS SPU Plugin and it doesn't desyncs. Anyway, I'm now encoding it for YouTube, so don't worry.
Thank you. I might pick something to encode as a project some day. Probably just as a personal project.

Aktan is one of the few encoders of PCSX-rr. The reason is the encodes of this emulator must be doned with Eternal SPU Plugin, the best sound plugin. Unfortunately, there is an issue: This plugin cause desyncs in the movie file. The process to make it sync is tedious and takes a lot of time to accomplish it. That being said, I don't recommend you doing your own encode, which will obviously sounds bad due to the sound glitches of TAS Sound Plugin. EDIT: The process is this: 1. Check "Show FPS display on startup" in the TAS Graphic Plugin. 2. Set the sound plugin to TAS Sound. 3. Record the whole movie with regular .kkapture without sound. 4. Set the sound plugin to Eternal SPU 1.41. 5. Make sure the settings in Eternal SPU are SPUasync, async mode wait, buffer size 12. 6. Use this version of .kkapture for Eternal SPU captures and make sure "Skip frames on frequent timer checks" is check and that the frame rate is set to 120.0: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?oq4491c34o373nh 7. Capture until first desync without sound. 8. Compare the TAS sound capture with the Eternal SPU capture carefully to find the exact first frame it desyncs. 9. Look at the in game frame number (this is why display is on) and subtract 24 from it. 10. Play back the run in PCSX-RR with TAS Sound until you get to that frame and then save state on that frame. 11. Switch to Eternal SPU and capture the run without sound, but this time load the save state you made in step 10. 12. If Eternal SPU capture now passes the desync spot, capture until the next desync and repeat from step 8. If there is no more desync, proceed to step 13. If it still desyncs in the same spot, proceed back to step 9 and try subtracting one less than you did last time (aka try 23, if still doesn't work, try 22, if still doesn't work, try 21, etc...). 13. Now that you have all the save states (I hope you have a different save state for each desync), capture the run again with Eternal SPU with sound and "Show FPS display on startup" unchecked in TAS Graphic plugin for all save states. 14. Combine the parts and remove the extra junk between each part and you finally have a complete capture.
Why do they have to be done with Eternal? Can't you use another SPU plugin? Or a Null Plugin?

No, Aktan just hates youtube.
What are the rules for making our own encodes or Youtube uploads of a TAS?

Taking another look here at creating an alternate encode with certain transitions/loads removed. Is there a way to identify these transitions automatically with Lua? Alternatively, is there someone who would be willing to identify these transitions manually? (I'd give you a framenumbered video, and you'd go through it writing down all the transition start and end times.)
You might be able to look for blackness in certain areas. Since the transition is usually stairs or a door in blackness. I could do it manually. Are we talking about the DS or PSX version? If DS you can just send one screen's video. Send whatever format you want, but I'd prefer UT Video or Lagarith. And if you do use MP4, try not to use VFR, please. It makes me sad. Edit: HuffYUV or Uncompressed AVI are fine too.

I used the recommended emulator. http://code.google.com/p/vba-rerecording/downloads/detail?name=vba-rerecording-svn421-win32.7z&can=2&q= I used the updated movie. http://tasvideos.org/movies/vbm/thekdx7-supermariobrosdeluxe-youvsboo.zip I extract them to folders I load the game with Open GBx ROM... Tools>Movie>Play Movie... I open the .VBM file. And it says "Corrupt movie snapshot." Do I have to put the .sav files in a certain folder or something?

I believe the bubbler challenge would go as follows.
If you (or whoever) is going to do something so unlikely to get accepted here, you might as well break one more rule to make the challenge more extreme and simplify the rules: Start the game with a level 3 Nemesis and 1 max HP, and never switch weapons (and, uh, level it up immediately in the Last Cave and Hell, if you get that far). (example) (save file)
Wouldn't 1HP prevent boost jumping? That turns it from a TAS into just a no-hit challenge.

This was a good run, but the subtitles seem to be very shy. They disappear quickly. It's not like the person is pressed for time. There is usually a whole minute, or more, between lines, but the lines seem in a hurry to go away, as if the subtitler has some perverse desire to teach us to learn to speed-read. I think it competes with Castlevania Simphony of the Night for that title, ... just my opinion =P
Have you ever noticed that if you take out the "ph" and "y" in "Simphony, it spells "Simon"?

Lol, every obsolete run has an input recording and encode.

It was Mukki's decision.
Ah, I just noticed they were different game names when I posted. I guess I should watch it then. I'm wondering how a 50 minute and a 28 minute TAS are identical enough to think about this. Also, we still have the "obsolete" one's input recording and encode. I guess there's really nothing lost anyway. This just seems to concern the database.

I contacted Flop and Happy a while back and they don't have a copy. It's unfortunate that there's no easy way to look for it. Edit: Who did the subtitling for the more recent Magician TAS? It's white text with no outline on top of a text box with, you guessed it, white text. Edit Edit: Used Yamb and changed the color myself.

I think an Icon would be too much, since Stars and Moons often overlap with commentated runs. Multiple icons might get redundant to the tag system. Enforcing a commentary tag would help in keeping the list up to date automatically if the lists read tags.

You state the link to the Breath of Fire II commentary is in the decription, but it's a dead link.

I'm sure I knew that this list existed but it took me a while to find again just now. My commentary for [1488] Genesis Phantasy Star IV by janus in 1:28:43.40 isn't on there either. But there was no encode using it or soft subs. At least it's in the movie's description.
If I remember right, I enjoyed that commentary. Thanks. Optimally we should encourage certain users to provide audio tracks. If not, at least soft subs embedded in the MKV. If not that, then having a Site-Hosted ASS file. Links to these things should be in the description and/or the list of links to the media. We should get "Audio Commentary" and "Text Commentary" flags going and use it more. Maybe add tags for Comedy and Technical.

Thanks. Maybe someone could edit the page for the "commentary" special category and link to the ASS files, as well as the LUA scripts. It might be too much work, but someone could also/instead upload new MKVs for the videos that don't have embedded subtitles.

I'm not aware of any such policy. In fact it's generally encouraged where there's pertinent new information (such as encodes of previously unmirrored/unstreamed movies). Please take specific issues with those runs' commentary tracks or lack thereof to those threads.

The encode linked on that page also contains subtitles in the same fashion that this movie's encode contains subtitles. If you can't see them, it's a problem with your player.
I never tested it since the MP4 download says it has the subs. If the MKV has subs, I don't know why the person uploaded a MP4 for the purpose of having subs. Mysteries abound. Come to Northwall and ski the slopes of Mt. Town Under Construction
