As always, I have provided a release package on my my sourceforge project. It includes the movie file, RAM Watch files, submission text, and level savestates.
Note: To watch the movie file, you must use Desmume 9.6 with advanced bus timing turned OFF

Introduction

Spider-man 2 is a very fast paced 3Dish-2D platformer for Nintendo DS. I picked this game to TAS because it was fast, had a large variety of movies, and a ton of amazing abilities that can be exploited with the variety of web slinging Spiderman can do.

Tricks & Glitches & Noteables

Chapter 6 - Mysterio

There is a bug when coming out of the mini-game. During the mini-game you will eventually tap the real mysterio. When this happens, rapidly tap the Y button. If the timing is correct, he will not reappear in the fight. He will be frozen and invisible for the rest of the fight. This allows for Spiderman to laydown a brutal (and unfair!) beating on his frozen, invisible self. I found this trick in a FAQ on GameFAQs.

Faster beginning of web slinging

When standing still and using a web sling, it is slightly faster to jump for one frame and then sling in order to avoid the slinging animation. This was discovered by SonikKustar

High Speed Corner Bounce

Meh, I need a better name for this. If you do a diagonal websling into a precise part of a corner of a ceiling, spiderman will hit his head but then counter to accelerate up after the corner. This is used to avoid grabbing some platforms and jumping on to them.

Final Octavius Fight

If you stay too close to him when he turns around, the game will go into the mini-game (thus costing a whole lot of time). This is why I sling far away from him and then return.

Thanks

SonikKustar, for helping me find tricks, watching WIPs, and even TASing a few portions of Level 1 & 2.
Enjoy

Baxter: Good audience response generally for this fast-paced TAS. Accepting.
sgrunt: Since GabCM apparently hasn't handled this yet, I'll publish it shortly.

Very fast paced, very action packed, nice graphics and sound, and seems very optimized. All that makes this an easy yes vote.

Very nice run, fast paced, and the boss fights were great too. No doubt about it, it's a yes vote

I see you couldn't wait for Archive to make the MP4. :P Anyway, it looks better on Dailymotion. I also see Dailymotion can handle DeDuped video very well! I'm voting yes, since Spider-Man is kicking every ass on his way quickly! It was very entertaining! Here's the encode on Archive. Archive page Video file (MKV, 167.4 MB) And a screenshot.

This was good enough to warrant a yes-vote. The action was solid throughout, and even though the game lacked "LOL-moments" (except for maybe the "WHITE T-SHIRT"-commercials), and this is what we need on this site.

Is there a reason why spiderman games are habitually bad? I wasn't entertained at all, even with the fast-paced nature of the run. The whole minigame thing is probably what did it for me. Nope for me.

I have to admit I found myself tuning out partway through. The gameplay seemed very repetitive. Fast, but still repetitive. I'm not going to vote as I didn't finish watching the movie, but if I had it'd probably be a Meh.

I like this run, it's quick! To bad the game itself use a lot of the same graphics! Edit: Forgot yes vote!

I found the run to be well played but the game doesn't seem to have much entertainment potential. Although the level immediately after that green harpy looking boss reminded me a lot of Ninja Gaiden for some reason... (Voting yes.)
I am a figment of my imagination.

This is not the Spider-Man 2 I was looking for. I guess the only consoles that the awesome sandbox game is on (PS2, XBox, GameCube) are not yet TAS-ready. Man, I love that game, enough so that I watched this entire run out of respect despite not finding it particularly interesting.

I found it pretty amusing how often Spidey says "I have to hurry!" If anything, what he needs to do is start obeying the speed limit. The game itself seems a little blah but I was reasonably entertained and it was pretty fast, so I'm voting yes. Interesting video size for the encode, by the way.

There are at least 3 Spider-Man games that are good: Spider-Man for PSX, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro for PSX and Spider-Man 2 for GC, PS2 and Xbox. One can say that the Spider-Man 2 for PS2 console generation is great! Go play it! As for this run, I voted yes. It's quite fast paced and entertaining. EDIT: It seems that the PC version of Spider-Man 2 sucks.

I Had to give it a meh. I was entertained on the firat few levels, but then I got bored and it was a struggle to try to finish.

I voted meh for the same reason. It's clearly very well done, but 20 minutes of this kind of repetitive gameplay is just far too long.

While it was a bit repetitive, I thought it was fast enough and good enough for a yes vote. And thanks for the encode, Mister Epic.

Only in a Spider-Man game can dudes in heavy camo body armor, lugging heavy assault rifles, be called "muggers." Meh vote, I was also tuning out partway through, because the scenery flies by too fast to be interesting and all you end up watching is the web line going from one corner to the other with Spidey in the center. Looks really solid, though, and in fairness I am watching it currently without sound, and I'll refrain from voting until later when I can turn the speakers on.

At around 0:58 in the video where you wait for the electrical discharge to disappear, would it be a bit faster to start a swing or pull to gain speed beforehand? This game is seriously giving me a mental disorder. The design of Mysterio's level is mind-boggling, then there's the whole "MYSTERIO HAS MULTIPLIED!!!11" things, 23 robots to destroy (I don't remember robots in the movie), hundreds of bombs to disarm (I definitely don't remember so many bombs in the movie!), weird trance music that seems completely out of place, nonsensical and shameless placeholder ads ("MOVIE"), etc.. This game is all over the place. Did the developers do drugs? Boss fights were surprisingly lackluster, aside from Octavius fights that consisted of shooing him away with repeated kicks — that's absolutely hilarious! Yes vote, but it's indeed more repetitive than should have been.

I still have to wait for the electricity on the way back either way. If you notice I do build up speed on the 2nd wait.

I find it funny how audience reception to this game is so lackluster given how much positive feedback the Spiderman 3 run got. The games have fairly similar paces, though this one is a little tougher to stay interested in. However, I was definitely entertained, and the game certainly demonstrates superhero-style speed. Yes vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

For the record, I felt mostly the same about Spiderman 3 run in regards to its general pacing. This one, however, has a lot of odd breaks to disarm bombs, and everything is generally dealt with in exact same ways. I'd say it's a curse of every game with particular moves that happen to be better than others in 90% of in-game situations, depriving TASers from opportunities to show off their problem solving skills. Also, the moving/killing speed isn't gradually increased like in Metroid and later Castlevania games because everything is available from the get-go, thus providing less contrast between slow and fast. You can have the same result if you take a slow game and watch it at 1.5x speed. Does it become 1.5 times more entertaining? Doubt so.

An unfourtunate yes vote for me. The main problems I found with the run was that it was based off a movie, which was based off a 60's comic book. It contains outdated references like "doing the right thing" as opposed to a more modern "finding happiness". Punching someone in the face make me feel happy, but is it the right thing? Now I've dealt with the game choice I'll go onto the run itself. Firstly, it's too fast paced. I was like WTF is going on here. Situations presented to the player are inhumanly dealt with. Almost as if Spiderman himself was playing it.

How is your yes-vote unfortunate? Because you wanted to vote no on a run made by adelikat, but it was too entertaining so you had to vote yes? The word "unfortunate" feels very misplaced here... And no, I don't buy that explanation you had in your post.
