You have to burn the rope is a very hard game. You have to burn the rope. Played on DeSmuMe 0.9.6
This run
  • Aims to complete the game as quickly as possible
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Burns a rope

Comments

I used corner boosts and the "jumping of ledges" trick to complete the game faster.
This beats nitrogenesis' run by 1 second.

Flygon: Added YouTube module.
GabCM: Added another YouTube module.
GabCM: Added HQx download link.

FractalFusion: Claiming for judging.
FractalFusion: I think it is worthwhile to link to the other run, which received similar comments but was not judged.
The game is funny and all that, but like everyone mentioned, there is hardly any worthwhile gameplay. It's notable enough to go on Gruefood Delight, and I think it should. Unfortunately, I have to reject the run.

adelikat This submission was unrejected for consideration of publication to the Vault but the person doing so I don't think realized it was a hack and not eligible. Setting this back to rejected.
FractalFusion: Unrejecting again since it is a homebrew game (albeit a port of a PC game) and not a hack.

adelikat: Seems notable enough for the Vault. Accepting.

Anyway this is awesome and a good TAS and preserves everything that makes the game itself amusing, and I think plenty of people will be happy to watch this instead of playing it themselves.
This is my problem with this TAS. What makes this game fun is the credits, not the gameplay. If someone did an encode of this without the credits, (I estimate) everyone would vote no. Thus, the actual TAS (itself) contains no entertainment, and an equal amount of entertainment would be had by watching any (type of) run on youtube. No vote.

Based on this, I vote No for this submission. This is not the first time, and probably not the last, that a run of an extremely simple game with no interesting gameplay is submitted. As far as I'm concerned, all have been rejected. The tricks used in this improvement don't contribute in any way to properly show tool-assistance. The gameplay continues obvious and straight-forward. This game is not well suited for TASing and that's unlikely to change no matter how much time is saved.

Honestly, voting no on this particular submission. If the axe throwing were taken out, this would be a yes. Honestly, that is one of the most annoying sounds I have ever heard. *cringe*

Gonna have to agree with the no voters here. This should be an April Fool's submission, and should be dealt with like most other such. Maybe if you found a way to glitch through walls.

Nice credits, but that has nothing to do with the actual TAS. Voting no.

Is it at all possible to defeat the thing via axe spam? Also... D':

Nothing wrong with axe spam. The more obnoxious, the better, I say.

I love the fact that an optimised TAS of this game exists, but the fact is enough by itself, it doesn't need publication as well, along much the same lines as Desert Bus. Voted no.

It is indeed more worthy of a publication compared to the run at SDA (no offense intended; I've already expressed my opinion on that run several times on the SDA forum), but the merits of having it published here are dubious at best. Still, stuff like this is more entertaining than some of the long 8.0+ rated runs just because it's not as painful to watch. Voting meh.

I imagine myself submitting the complete text of my M.D. first-year semestrial project as a thesis. Even though I have been really proud of being able to do it, I now know that it has no great interest compared with the research performed by any PhD student -- it was just some kind of "preliminary work" that made it possible for me to become one. This is what this TAS makes me think about. And even though I'm pretty sure that the TASer has skills in TASing games, the choice of this game has to be some kind of mystical joke. It cannot be serious. No, it cannot. Stop watching me, I'm not mad.

This can't be in the vault because of this:
Hacks are not eligible for this category, but unlicensed games are. We demand hacks with entertainment value, therefore should be judged by the Moon tier requirements.
So....anyone think this should be moon/star'd?

I wasn't entertained by the run. The ending song is fun, but it's part of the game, not the TAS (gameplay). The run doesn't make the game look easier, because it is already as easy as possible, and the corner boosting trick alone clearly doesn't add enough entertainment to push it in the moon category.

This is a funny little game, but I didn't find the run entertaining either. This really should go in Gruefood Delight though, like FractalFusion said in his judging statement.

Just pointing out that this game is a homebrew, not a hack. The Vault rules do not specifically forbid homebrew or unlicensed games, only hacks. It even says that unlicensed games are allowed, so make of that what you will.
