Hello everyone! It's a pleasure to meet you all. :) The reason I said "unbelievable", is because I honestly cannot believe I am *JUST* now discovering this wonderful website! I am someone that absolutely LOVES the thought of spectating other people play old school 2D games, and ironically just discovered M.A.R.P. as well, which let's you watch replays of MAME games. But this....THIS site caught me by surprise! If I hadn't asked about where I can find recorded input movies for snes games over at the ZSNES forums this morning, I would have never discovered this place. Suffice to say, I'm so glad I did :) There are so many movie files here I don't know where to begin. It feels like I just stepped into a candy store lol! Anyway just wanted to say thanks to the powers that be who run this place, for hosting so many cool input replay files. I'm going to enjoy it here :)

OK I have a question I forgot to ask.... Seeing as how it will most likely be impossible for me to watch a lot of these replay files in one sitting, is there a way for Snes9x to bookmark them?

Thanks. Yeah I figured the bookmark option was a no go. I guess it's a good thing most of the movies are speed runs afterall lol. Can you tell me if it's at least THEORETICALLY possible to implement a bookmarking feature into the emulator? If not, can you say why? Im just curious. Heck, if you're feeling generous enough, perhaps you can explain why I've been told it's impossible to implement a rewind feature for all emulators as well ;P

It's possible.

I would explain otherwise.

Because it'd be a RAM management nightmare. Especially for newer consoles. Edit: Nach is a ninja.

Interesting replies guys, thanks for the clarification. OK...I have just attempted to play two snes movie files within Snes9x 1.51_Win32: A Legend of Zelda and a Super Mario Allstars file, and on both of them I am getting an error saying "Unsupported Movie Version" and that I need to run a different version of Snes9x to run the file. Problem is, the description of these files on the website do not say which version of the emulator is required to run them properly. Is there a way around? What is the most common version of snes9x that is compatible with most of the movie files?

I think what he means by bookmark is a way to resume watching from where he left off, in which case yes there is. Simply make a savestate. When you want to resume, open the replay file (in read-only mode) and load that state.

I don't know about MAME. But it should work pretty much for all emulators we put out. See: Wiki: EmulatorResources

Tried it and it works! Awesome. It also appeared that even though I grabbed the snes9x 1.43, I *still* had the wrong version. It appears I needed "improvement 9". For the two movies I've tried so far, improvement 9 seems to do the trick. I'm loving this so far! The only thing, to be brutally honest, is that these are all Tool Assisted runs. That's cool and they look nice, but I prefer to watch movie files that are just "normal" runs. Runs that are pure skill without the tool assists. Runs that are not so fast, but are played at a somewhat normal pace. Can you tell me which part of the site/forum contains these types of runs, or what search parameters I should use to find them? If not, where's a good place to find them. Mostly snes and nes of course.

You'll probably have more luck at Speed Demos Archive then, since those focus on unassisted plays.

To my knowledge (not that I've looked closely), SDA doesn't do much distribution of emulator input files though; their speedruns are all (supposed to be) made on an actual console to reduce the potential for cheating, and the runs are submitted/distributed as video files. Though there might be emulator input files on the forums, I suppose. Around here, mostly we just have this forum, which doesn't get a whole lot of activity.

Guys where do I donate? Seriously, right now I'm with my girl and we are in the middle of watching a Super Mario World casual run called "Me Failing at SMW", complete with popcorn and drink, and we are fucking LOVING IT!!!!! Seriously this is way way WAAAAAAAAAAY better than watching anything on cable television! And adelikat....the movie snapshot/savestate trick is the BOMB!! I love how you can "rewind" anytime you want by using movie snapshots! It's so awesome. I can't believe this website isn't more popular than it is. I mean seriously.....WHERE IS EVERYBODY??? Are there that gamers these days who don't appreciate what kind if enjoyment old school emulation brings to the table? Pffft....kids these days. Absolutely pathetic. I'm 37yrs old and watching these replay files not only brings back memories, but I'm having some of most enjoyable moments in all my time in gaming, right as I type this. So fucking cool. So again, where do i donate?
