Ivy the Kiwi? is a platformer game like Lemmings. Ivy, the main character constantly runs in one direction unless she hits an obstacle. The player will pull the vine to lead her through obstacles to a goal.

Game objectives

  • Emulator: DeSmuME 0.9.6-win32
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Collects all items

About the run

The objective of the run is to collect all red feathers in each stage to make it more entertaining than any% run would be. The way of movement is to launch Ivy first, and push her with the vine while she is flying. That allows her to gain enormous speed and the run will be quite speedy. Although she collects all red feathers which are scattered around each stage, the average time of 50 levels is only 6 seconds. In 8-1, 8-2, 8-3, 8-4, 8-5, 9-5, and 10-5, a rock is required to break hard blocks. Therefore I had to carry it through pushing it with Ivy or the vine.

OmnipotentEntity: I'm going to give this a shot at encoding. It'll be my first DS encode though, so we'll see how it goes. I'll unset this if I give up.

We have a winner for the speedy TAS of 2011 award. I loved it, Ryuto. Thank you very much! By the way, the name of the submission is missing the "100%" branch.

Given that Ivy's actually a phoenix, it can't be that bad. Yes vote for making the game look easier than a 2x2 block puzzle.

This is what happens when you have members of Sonic Team tey and make a game that isnt Sonic. I literally blinked and missed the first level. Anything that makes me do that deserves a yes vote.

I actually found this a bit repetitive, as it's going so fast that all the levels look the same. I'm not sure if anything can be done about that, though; I fear it's a case of a game being too good a game choice. Perhaps I should watch it at 10% speed or something. (Not voting because I suspect my preferences on this are different from other people's; I'm the sort of person who likes to be able to really see what a TAS is doing.)

I had to watch a review of this game to fully understand how absolutely insane this run is. Yes vote for this and for maybe speediest tas of 2011. We will see...

Ivy isn't content with just the feathers. Ivy requires MOAR SPEEDZ. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM *votes yes*

Wow! This run serves as a perfect example of what a TAS is meant to do: show off what inhuman precision can do to a game. I really appreciate that the run isn't glitchy, just incredibly fast. To stretch an analogy, this run is to puzzle games what Biker Mice From Mars is to racing games. I also recommend watching a game review along with this movie, so that you roughly see how the game was intended to be played. I did find the run getting repetitive, as ais523 mentioned. Watching this in a slower speed would probably still be entertaining. For me, watching the map helped, so that you can actually trace how fast Ivy is going. Also, the last stages are particularly impressive and not as hard to follow (10-2 comes to mind). Thank you very much, Ryuto! Yes vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

That was so fast my eyes almost began to hurt trying to follow Ivy on the screen. Yes vote, and obvious candidate for Speedy TAS 2011

I actually think I'd prefer a canvas curse over this - while the speed in this is absolutely breakneck, the triviality of every level makes it hard to sit through the whole thing. It is a great example of superplay, of course.

I can see it now, Sonic going "You're too slow!", then the screen freezing and flashing "A CHALLENGER HAS APPEARED!"
Working on a mod of an old favorite in my spare time. PM for updates!
