History of Metal Slug - Super Vehicle-001 (c) 1996 Nazca.

A scrolling 'run-and-gun' platform game for one or two players, Metal Slug is a humorous parody of war and specifically of World War II and the Nazis.
The game features six enemy-packed levels, referred to as 'missions'. Players start the game armed only with a pistol, but extra weapons can be picked up and used for greater firepower. Also, at certain points during a level players will find an unused 'Super Vehicle-001' - or Metal Slug - tank which can be entered and driven. The Metal Slug is slow-moving but has very powerful weapons. If the Slug takes too many hits it will break down and start to flash, the player must then quickly exit the vehicle before it explodes. The enemy troops also have vehicles at their disposal, such as tanks, boats and helicopters.
The levels are littered with bearded hostages who, when rescued, award players with either points bonuses (in the form of medals) or weapon power-ups. Available weapons are Heavy Machine Gun, Flame Shot, Rocket Launcher and Shotgun. Hand grenades are also available.
Each level ends with at least one large enemy 'Boss' vehicle that takes many hits to destroy. Once the boss has been destroyed, bonus points are awarded for each prisoner rescued. Further bonus points are awarded if the player's Metal Slug vehicle has survived the boss battle.

Yeah

I changed my tactics in the last stage. Because I ignore that piking up S must wait it turn to the pistal. So it can get the 30 S and keep it for the last boss. For most people who like no death,I take it in this one.Although level 5 was slower. It's faster than my past version.

At last,thanks to klmz's hint.

feos: Added YouTube module. Enjoy this time ;)

DarkKobold: Claimed.

DarkKobold: Yay, an acceptable version of Metal Slug! I think it is clear the audience prefers a no-death version.

Oh, a no-death Metal Slug run? Guess we'll have to find something new to make a shitstorm about.

Voted yes. I much prefer this version of the run to the one that used continues regardless the fact that using continues is faster.

I am going to vote No because you forgot to thank me for my strategical suggestions on the last two missions! [/unseriously]

Sorry this took so long! HD Encode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS5cX0Sx2Tw (1080p and original should be up soon if they aren't already.) SD Encode: http://www.mediafire.com/?orm3x3mxz1opsz2 Great run. Definite yes vote from me.

"So long"? Seven hours from submission to encode is damned fast. It's a pity I'm at work right now. Have to watch it later.

Would have been up three hours ago if it wasn't for my poor choice of encode settings. Huge upload to youtube.

Watched the encode (Thanks, faucet!), and yeah, it was a pretty good run. Given it's even faster than the death-run, I don't mind it's publication, so yeah, I guess.

I love how you managed your resources well and even kept the two players score fairly similar at the end. Yes vote.

Just fastfowarded to the end, and im still voting yes on this. Amazing run and nice effective resource usage on the last stage. I think that the published encode should have the ending credits. It just fels odd to me. :/

A kamikazee tank straight to the helicopter rotor, priceless indeed. Voting Yes of course and let's see what other things people will complain about.

Now this was a really nice treat! I especially liked the beginning of mission 5 where you shanked the crap out of the enemies :) The run was really fast paced and kept its momentum even though the lag sometimes was a huge turnoff. Yes vote and congrats X2poet. Edit: 2 things: I) I hope you keep tasing more Metal Slug games because to me, arcade games is all about Metal Slug :) 2) I don't know if this is just me but sometimes during fadeouts, it lagged a lot. I wonder if that is an emulation error or that that is how the game acts during fadeouts.

This is what I'm talking about! That was great, definite yes vote. I liked the tag-teaming with the machinegun and slug on the ship in the final mission.

This looks really nice. My favorite part is still fighting the crazy machinegun guy in Stage 3 with knives and jumping on his head with Heavy Machineguns. The final fight is great too, and a screenshot should probably come from that. Whether or not I agree with the new rule concerning Arcade continues, I'm entertained by this run, and it looks well made. Yes vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

that doesn't mean anything, there is a known improvement that hasn't been implemented, that means "no" for me, kind of the same reason why I voted no on criticaluser's early AW1 glitch run

Wait... the fact a movie is FASTER than a previous one means NOTHING?... you DO realize this is TASVideos.org?, and that TIME and entertainment is basiclly what this site is about and you're saying TIME doesn't mean ANYTHING?... Something's REALLY wrong with that statement, I invite you to think what you're typing before posting. AND if you're planning on using the "with continues this run could be faster" argument well... we HAD that run checked and even if it was rejected this one is ALREADY FASTER THAN THAT ONE, FASTER THAN USING CREDITS AND MORE AWESOME.

Won't hate you but rather ask: In some runs were the improvments in a certain stage sometimes makes the next one a bit slower BUT still the run is faster than the previous one are already acepted... what's the big "meh" issue in this one? I really can't understand what are people complaining about now. This run is faster AND with NO deaths which was the biggest "NO" on the previous one... I want to believe some are just trolling around, really.

Dont meant o hate, but the start of the Final Mission is actually very random. If those frames are saved on the Mission 5 boss, then he might have worse luck the second time around.

Speed/Entertainment tradeoffs are commonplace on this site. Complaining that the author 'left out known improvements' when the point of this submission was obviously a no-death version of the previous movie, with improvements, is just plain dumb. >_>

This is my prediction that some of them will say: "Oh it is slower, why not use death to save time,no vote." Now,that get truth.
Do the work.
