Mole Mania, known as Moguranya (モグラ~ニャ) in Japan, is an action puzzle game. The main character is a mole named Muddy Mole, whose wife and children have been kidnapped by the farmer, Jinbe. Muddy has to go to Jinbe Land and save his family. In the game, the player will solve puzzles by moving a black ball to a gate. However, there are many obstacles and enemies in the way. Therefore the player will dig into ground to find ways around them.

Game objectives

  • Emulator: vba-rerecording-svn-r25-win32
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Beats all levels
  • Does not use surrender
  • Manipulates luck
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses a game restart sequence
  • Uses warp

About the run

The run aims to beat all levels as fast as possible without using surrender. I used new warp glitch that allows skipping a lot of rooms. While an enemy pushes a black ball that Muddy is carrying, hitting by another enemy takes Muddy to a square where he can’t go to. This trick only works upper side and left side of the screen. Also it only works in level 2, level 3, level 4, and level 6.

Stage by stage comments

Level 1

Almost same as currently published any% run. The difference is that it doesn’t use surrender.

Level 2

This is the first stage where the new trick is abused.

Level 3

In battle against Funton, I wasn’t able to draw anything because I had to manipulate luck. Sorry about that.

Level 4

This level has one of the toughest puzzles to solve. Maybe some players used surrender here. However, the run beats the puzzle pretty easily.

Level 5

The warp glitch doesn’t work.

Level 6

The warp glitch takes Muddy to a broken map and he enables to move to almost everywhere. It makes Muddy into a zombie, breaks the game, and unable to unlock level 8 without reset glitch. After beating all levels except for level 8, the run abuses the reset glitch in level 1 to unlock level 8.

Level 7

The warp glitch doesn’t work. The level was quite long and hard to manage Muddy’s life.

Level 8

I drew a question mark block from Super Mario Bros. in battle against Funton.

Data for each level

Each score were broken since abusing the warp glitch in level 6.

I saw the Youtube Videos of this run and its nice to see a lot of different strategies as well as some other weird glitches. My favorite part was near the end of Stage 6 where after the huge glitch-cut, the graphics start glitching out. Yes Vote. Incredible run to an underrated game.

Claiming SD. I can do the HD encode, but someone else will have to put it on youtube.

Quite nice! The glitches for skipping rooms were cool, especially since the setup looks so unintuitive. The amount of puzzles felt about right, especially since some of the ones in Stages 4 and 7 are quite hard. Also, the strategy against Jinbe (boss #8) in Stage 8 looked really good! However, I'm concerned about one thing. Although the warp glitch in Stage 6 saves a lot of time, and it's hilarious, it gets rid of your access to Stage 8, and you have to use the reset glitch after all. That makes it difficult to explain this run's goals properly: it's not "play all rooms", and it's not "avoids major warp glitches". Do we just call this an "all stages" run? It seems like this run falls into a similar category as the Legend Of Zelda swordless run... it avoids using the reset glitch except where necessary to beat the game, like the LoZ run avoids the sword except where necessary to beat the game. Great job Ryuto! You work fast! And you've definitely earned a Yes vote for publication alongside the other run.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. It took a little bit to get into. But once I got into it, it was pretty good. A bit long though.

Dropbox's Public folder has a bandwith limit. Break that limit = you can't share from your Public folder for some days.

I'm having no problem here. Anyway, I think I'll cook up an HD encode.

I thought this would be a 100% run, but it's nice to see more of the game. Our hero can now magically warp.

Is it possible to avoid using the reset glitch? From the viewpoint of the game, you hadn't beaten all of the first 7 levels before you used the reset glitch.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Yes. It is possible to avoid the reset glitch. In level 6, I abused a game breaking glitch that causes level 8 to be impossible to unlock without the reset glitch. But I aimed to beat all bosses as fast as possible, and I think these glitches used in the run might make it more impressive than no glitch run.

I'm not fond of that screenshot, since it's not good at showing off the game.

Well, it seems to be the glitchier of the two, which shows one of the characteristics of the run. If the consensus says the other suggested is better, I'll optimize and use that, but I prefer glitched screenshots.
