We have the Alucard and Sypha runs, but is anyone working on another run with Grant? There was a post in the workbench about Castlevania 3, but it was kind of cryptic.

I believe part of the problem is that Grant's path is the slowest path. Sypha came first, then Alucard was faster. I'm not sure how eager someone is to complete a slower-than-both-of-those run.

Oh. Still, people are willing to do 100% runs of Super Metroid and such.

What he means is why people do a 100% SM run since it's longer than anything else and why not a Grant run. Like a 101% DKC run .

Because SM is 986343456 times greater, better, more entertaining, extremly more beautiful to watch over and over again (especially by the worlds so far greatest SM player: Samus Aran).

Grant doesn't really have his own "path" per se, getting him just adds an extra (very long) level and cuts out the first part of the forest stage. I would definitely not take the Alucard path with him, since Alucard can do the same things and more with his flying. Hm... -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Bah it depends. I agree that SM is a cool game to play but to watch ..... boring especially a 100% run. Castlevania are cool games to watch. Even Dracula X was cool to watch(not as much as the other ones) even if it's jumping always.

I respect your opinion but totallt disagree that its boring to watch (especially Samus Arans run). But maybe we have different taste :)

That is such a ridiculous thing to say.

Red scarlet is probably spinning in her metaphorical internet grave. Just be wary to make the distinction between being the best player at a game, and being a persistent, dedicated time attacker of a game. But anyway, I think a grant run should be done because in my opinion it'd probably be more interesting than sypha's, though longer. Alucard can fly, Grant can climb walls(and won't have to collect hearts), and Sypha's got nasty spells. While allowing her to dispose enemies in a quick and sometimes interesting manner, personally I don't think it's quite as interesting as seeing the player exploit the layout of the levels/walls as well as possible.

Sheesh, all I was saying is that it takes a lot of work to perfect a Super Metroid 100% speedrun. The Grant run wouldn't be as entertaining, but it wouldn't be that much work either. While we're on the Castlevania subject, what about Simon's Quest? Anyone going to try those "time saving glitches"?

I heard therealssjlink was working on such a Simon's Quest run, but don't know if it's been stopped or what.

Good observation Bleechy and yes I wont forgett the difference BUT you have to admit that Samus Arans run included sooo many new tricks, the murder beam weapon, glitches etc etc that has caused as you said: "Red scarlet is probably spinning in her metaphorical internet grave" :)))))) One of the thing I really got annoyed with Scarlets run was why the hell she pressed the start button to get to the menu (I understand if it was for changing weapons etc but now like 10-15 times, she could easy shave off 30-40 seconds there on her run) and the morphball technic... one word: DAAAMN

The ingame timer also pauses when the menu is active.

And it still looks terribly awfull pressing the start button to get to the menu 10-15 times ( highly unnecessary) and her run made it look very unprofessional.

Hey, uh, this isn't a Metroid thread. I'm looking for Castlevania info.

Anyway...as Castlevania 3 is IMO perhaps the best in the series and one of my all-time favorite NES games, I may just do this Grant run myself. Currently I'm wondering which would be more interesting: Take the Sypha path, or take the Alucard path but pick different levels from what Phil & Genisto did. The cool thing about the latter is that between the three runs you'd see every level in the game, but it wouldn't give the fastest time. Hm... -Josh

Definitely take a different path than the other runs. I was really hoping the Alucard run would include the Sunken Temple. I love (and hate) that level, it'll be fun to watch.

Seeing as a Grant run is already going to be slower than the other runs, I'd love to see the latter version, though for the sake of speed, it wouldn't be the best choice.

What if you just did a mini run of that level to see how fast you could get through it?

Actually, It is still in queue because I have been busy. If I do not plan on finishing, I will post the .fmv here (Forums). I have to perform that very hard glitch still (Getting to Castlevania with Tornado) after I finish buying laurels.
