Very impressive analyzis adelikat. I am sorry for my comments earlier. I guess my fear of this run getting rejected for the wrong reasons got the better of me. I apologize for hinting towards any racial or partial judging, I should have known better. On another note: Awesome that this got accepted :D I can't wait for the progress of this game as people try to perfect both the time and the camerawork!

do you feel that the effort the authors put into their work is more important than the actual result (as long as it's technically impressive?)
I don't think that at all. However, I do give consideration to the fact that the author's adhered to the site's guidelines and goals. I wouldn't say that is more important than results. My decision wasn't based on any kind of absolutes as this was a fringe case situation.
or do you think we just shouldn't care that much for casual viewers who don't know the layout of this game's levels by heart?
This site has always tried to cater to the general audience more than the niche audience.
Wouldn't rejecting this movie have increased their motivation to do that? Do you think an improvement to this run will be achieved rather soon anyway? I'm sorry for asking that many questions and don't expect all of them to be answered.
I don't think rejecting nor accepting will have a significant impact on their decision to redo. Camera work is intimately tied to user input in this game. It would require a complete redo, and producing something of this caliber is no trivial task.

I see. Thanks for elaborating.

Also, given the divided audience response here, this run will not automatically inherit the star of its predecessor.

I believe this run should be accepted because it's a faster run without entertainment tradeoffs. I think adelikat made a mature judgment in line with the site's philosophy rather than getting involved in this ugly dispute. I hope that people who have insulted and flamed other users are banned from the forums.

I'm glad you ignored the mob mentality and objectively judged the movie. Again I really am confused still as to what people are even complaining about with the camera work.

I don't like the pipe screenshot - it doesn't show very much of what's going on. The clock screenshot is a little more pleasing to look at, and probably the best of the batch in my view.

I wonder why the amount of rerecords is so much smaller here than in the previous TAS? Is it because a lot of input was copied and pasted from the earlier TAS?

No input was copied. Keep in mind that the 411111 rerecords of the previous movie were hex edited to show an approximative number of all the work that has been put on it. I know the old team re-did BitDW about 10 times and they just put a lot more work than the current 3 authors. Re-doing the run without improving it doesn't take that much work, when you don't find anything new. That and the Japanese are very very good. :P

ok. to me it sounds incredibly hard to try and attempt to do a 3 frame improvement to such a complex TAS without copying input. would have been useful to just copy the input, but i guess it wasn't possible since the camera angles were different.

Changed my mind. But I am still disappointed that this run made it. I remember watching it here recently and wondering why I couldn't figure out what was going on, when the one I'd watched previously made perfect sense. I can't tell what they did at all. And isn't that the point of a TAS--to show off all the neat things you are doing, showing HOW the game can be beaten by a super human?
