I'd love to see the arcade version done. Brings back some nostalgia for me. Used to play this in the cafeteria at the local bathhouse when I was a kid. I also played the SNES version a lot, but this version is better.

You and other members that like this game should consider some playaround online. I'm always playing this game online, also Captain Commando and Cadillacs and Dinosaur. If any of you are interested, you can play it on ggpo, supercade. There's ArcLive too, but they only have Captain Commando and Cadillacs and Dinosaur and no Final Fight. Supercade have all of them and ggpo has only Final Fight. There's also the kailera, but imo the ones i posted before are much better. My username is l2eeve or Reeve. If you see me online, feel free to challenge me anytime.

Whats up with the Sound in that clip from dark noob? is he using a different version/game than what i am used to? For instance, I dont fully recognize the stages being that short and somewhat unrecognizable sound from the characters and other sounds.

Hi! I was watching this speed run of Final Fight played with Haggar on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8066ygV7Thw Player knows some trick that enable him to escape from ABIGAIL's grip. So I wonder, does anybody knows that trick? How to do it? Thanks!

There's a third button that lets you escape, not sure if it is a hack or not but in my local arcade that button was there. Escape is not limited to Haggar, but all three chars. And you can escape from pretty much all the grabs (Andore, Abigail, Edi E., Rolento)

Incredible, I played this game million times and I never heard for that. I tried it in MAME emulator and it works just like you sad. Interesting is that in MAME third button is labeled as CHEAT. I also checked original manual of game and there are only mentioned two buttons on technical drawing, jump and attack buttons. Anyway, thank you very much for uncovering this "secret" to me :) By!

I wonder if a TAS submitted to tasvideos of this game would allow for the use of the 'cheat' labelled button or not. Is it morally equivalent to L+R or morally equivalent to a cheat code?

Well, two questions: 1) Is the software modified to enable this button? If it is, then using it is of course right out. 2) If the software isn't modified (i.e. the "escape" input is recognized by the game code), then is the button made accessible in any official production of the game? If not, then that implies hardware modifications are needed to enable it. I mean, this isn't like a normal console where all of the buttons should be considered valid inputs; each arcade machine is basically a game and console bundled together. It's reasonable for the game developers to ignore inputs that wouldn't be physically possible on unmodified hardware.

It's not like there is a single hardware configuration the thing is designed to run on. It was common back in the day to just buy the chips and put it in an old cabinet rather then buy a whole new cab. cps1 was designed around the ability for the board to be able to run multiple games. If you image search final fight cabinet you are going to find a bunch of different designs.

That's why I said "any official production". If at least one official version of the game recognizes that button, then it's clear to be used, just like we often use a specific version of a console game because that version has favorable behavior.

Kyo sad here that actual arcade cabinet on which he played the game had that third button. Also, MAME developers stated clearly that intention of MAME is to reproduce games faithfully as possible without cutting or adding any non-original functions. For example, they will not include autofire ability in official MAME release if the original game don't have that option. So it looks that third button is not a hack, but option included in original game ROM. Probably more info could be retrieved from a MAME developers, but it looks that their forum (which once existed) is abandoned years ago.

so what are all the "official production" versions? I think you will find that is near imposable to determine.

As far as i remember there was a third button that was only used to scape when any enemy grab you. That was the only function of that button. It would probably not be usefull in a TAS considering there's no advantage (as far as i know) in getting grabbed by an enemy.

ANother case. Yie Ar Kung Fu. NO official cabinet has button 3, yet the game accepts it as a low arc jump button if it is hooked up. This one WOULD make a difference.

I had a lot of fun watching you demolish this game! I'm just curious what advantages Haggar will bring to the run besides greater damage? Does he have his own set of glitches?

Why haven't I noticed this thread earlier?? First of all, thank you for doing this! Waited years for someone else besides me tasing this game :P PLEEEEEEEASE USE HAGGAR! That fucker is one giant Arnold looking dude with a kickass mustache. A freaking mustache! We should have a mustache day in Tasvideos. In all seriousness, please continue with this using Haggar and preferably Cody. Much love. Edit: I am sure you could even submit this run and submit a run with Haggar. Though a judge would know more of this matter.

Very well done, Cretino! I'm a big fan of this game and used to play it online a lot with some friends. I usually play as Haggar, so I'd also like to see him in action. If you have the time while waiting for the screen to move or a cutscene and there are barrels or stuffs like that in your way, turn them into gold/ruby, just for entertainment.

Nothing is 100% certain but I would say you have a good chance. To get more answers from a judge, please send a pm to a judge like Mothrayas.

(The associated video has been deleted.) This TAS completes Round 1: Segment 1 of Final Fight in 121 fewer Frames than [2905] Arcade Final Fight "2 players" by CReTiNo in 15:45.40. This TAS plays at the maximum Difficulty Level settings (8 out of 8 Difficulty Level 1 and 4 out of 4 Difficulty Level 2). The current Publication plays at the default Difficulty Level settings (4 out of 4 Difficulty Level 1 and 2 out of 2 Difficulty Level 2), because as I understand it, the author was unaware that the DIP switches could be adjusted. This TAS demonstrates that at least this Segment of the game can be completed in fewer Frames than the current Publication, despite being played at the maximum Difficulty Level settings. I would like to complete a TAS of this game, and this leads to my quandary and why I have posted here: At the maximum Difficulty Level settings, the Heroes to less damage against Mini Bosses and Bosses than they do at the default Difficulty Level settings. The Difficulty Level DIP Switches do not modify the amount of damage that a Hero inflicts against normal enemies. As such, a Segment with a Boss Battle would require rather more Frames at the maximum Difficulty Level settings that the same Segment at the default Difficulty Level settings. As a result, the TAS overall would likely require more Frames at the maximum Difficulty than the current Publication, despite the majority of Segments being completed in fewer Frames than the current Publication. I would prefer a TAS of this game played at the maximum Difficulty Level settings, and my impression is that this would be more closely in line with TASVideos Guidelines. However, would a Submission that requires more Frames to complete the game because it is played at the maximum Difficulty be rejected for being slower than the current Publication? At the minimum Difficulty Level settings, the Heroes to more damage against Mini Bosses and Bosses than they do at the default Difficulty Level settings. Using these settings would allow the game to be completed in the fewest number of Frames. However, I feel it is less impressive. The seething throngs of enemies of enemies that are possible at higher Difficulty Level settings are one of the charms (horrors?) of arcade Beat 'Em Up games of this era. Would a Submission that requires fewer Frames to complete the game because it is played at the minimum Difficulty be rejected for playing at lower Difficulty Level settings than the current Publication? Playing at the default Difficulty Level settings would complete the game in fewer Frames than the current Publication, but not so few as would playing at the minimum Difficulty Level settings. This choice would seem arbitrary to me, and only an issue because the precedent has been set at these Difficulty Level settings. I would appreciate any feedback on how to proceed. I don't really wanna have to TAS this twice. :)

I'm not a judge, but there are several cases where a higher difficulty run, even if longer, has obsoleted (or existed beside) a lower difficulty run. It's also possible that the time difference between the current run and your attempt might be very small - after all, your posted segment is already a bit faster than what is published. I would, of course, wait for other responses, but I don't see a reason for you to stop just yet.

As far as I'm concerned, hardest difficulty will almost always obsolete easier difficulties unless hardest difficulty adds too much repetition, like in the case of Earthworm Jim 2 where hardest difficulty adds about 7 minutes of painful-to-watch repetition to the run. I doubt that would be the case here, so you're in the clear to continue on hardest. Just make sure to write out how much you're improving in the comparable sections so everyone knows it's an improvement upon submission.
