FractalFusion: The youtube video below is for an older version of this submission. The updated one is 209 frames faster.

I had sumitted an improvement before, but I cancelled, sorry to cancel it suddenly.Because I solved cannon firing problem after I redo it,and other small problems. Now it is very nice for watching.I hope you would like it. Thanks for antd's encode.

Game objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Manipulates luck
  • Hardest difficulty
Emulator used: PCSX v0.1.3

About this game:

This game, the fifth game in the X series, is about a giant space colony that's about to drop down on Earth, and you need to collect 4 pieces (from the first four Mavericks) of a giant laser cannon, which can be used to blow it up. Usually, it fails and you need to get 4 pieces (from the final four Mavericks) from a space shuttle to use that instead. Here, though, the laser blows it up in one shot without any pieces collected. (Which, in real time, has a 1/16 chance of occurring). This instantly unlocks the final stages, which are therefore the only stages needed for completion. Of course, this being an X game, expect loads of instant death spikes, wall jumping, dashing and challenging bosses, and Sigma as the final boss.

Tricks used:

  • Slash Dash Cancel (SDC): First hit of a triple jab (which doesn't activate invincibility) can be cancelled with a dash, which can be cancelled into another slash. Repeat for lots of damage.
  • Turnaround SDC: By turning around while doing the first hit of a triple jab, Zero will automatically do the second slash in the other direction. It's faster than normal SDC, provided it's actually possible to hit with it.
  • Lowering ranks to save time: Boss levels in this game determine the bosses' health, and these are (partially) determined by your rank, so lowering your rank intentionally makes some boss battles shorter. These include Rangda Bangda W, X and Sigma's first form.
  • Manipulates luck to Fast Ready: Before each stage begins, logo “READY” may disappear shorter or longer,it depend on when you end the last area. Manipulates luck to let “READY” disappear faster may save many frames.

About this run

This run is 774 frames (12.90 seconds) faster than the current published run by Mothrayas'.

Intro stage:

5 frames saved on the way to the boss.I used normal jump instead of dash jump as to jump higher when jump over the top of ladder in order to climb wall faster.

Boss fight:

Sigma’s head,I manipulated him open his mouth and kept hitting him, finished him quickly,47 frames saved. The last hit as to get the rng to the cannon firing value after cutscene.

Cannon firing time:

I was lucky when made the cannon fire safe,it took no delay,44 frames saved.

Virus Stage 1:

This stage is hard to save time,I couldn’t save time at fast ready, but I also saved 1 frame in boss fight.

Virus Stage 2:

This stage is one of main improvement from, luckily,I saved 8 frames at fast ready.I took damage as to get through ride armor enemy and avoid to climb wall twice,it is also faster. After that I jumped over a firing enemy instead of taking damage.I used air dash to pass the other firing enemy instead of destroying it,it could be destroyed by hitting it 3 time with air slash, but it pause 5 frames each hit, this why I used air dash. There is ride armor enemy needn’t to destroy,I jumped over of it.When climbing wall,I jumped to opposite floor instead of using wall jump twice.Saved 70 frames. I also saved 2 frames in boss fight.

Virus Stage 3:

Saved 10 frames at fast ready.I found a right place to catch the cord avoid delay when jumping in air twice.Saved 12 frames. Boss is X,I used Atma’s strategy, let X just stands there.I didn’t save time at boss fight.

Sigma Stage:

Because of fast ready,I saved 14 frames and I made better run in this part, more 11 frames saved.

Boss Rush:

This is the main improvement from.

Burn Dinorex:

No time saved.

Dark Necrobat:

45 frames saved,I manipulated him to fly lowly to make for more contact time.

Shining Hotarunius:

90 frames saved.I used the same strategy when fought to Dark Necrobat and took damage as to SDC him more,he flew slowly on the ground.

Volt Kraken:

31 frames saved.Manipulated him to fly to me all the time and made a lot more contact time.

Tidal Makkoeen:

No time saved.

Crescent Grizzly:

5 frames saved,I avoided him by dash jump instead of ground dash when him jumped to me.

Spike Rosered:

No changed,I also let him clone himself.

Spiral Pegacion:

60 frames saved, used normal strategy, let him sent out his shadow after twice dash.I added two hit to him when he first dashed to me,so I could finish him before he disappeared second time.

Fanal Stage:

Saved 32 frames because of some boxes appeared shorter before the first Sigma’s boss door.

Final Sigma W:

Sigma’s first form, used normal strategy as Mothrayas’,1 frame saved because I jumped shorter.

Gamma Sigma:

Also used strategy as Mothrayas’,but I hit Sigma more while he was appearing and manipulated him phased out faster.I found a new trick on Sigma's arms.I jumped and made his left arm follow my track to move higher, letting me SDC him more time.Saved a lot of time.Saved 286 frames.

Totle improvements:

774 frames(12.90 seconds)

In-game ending stats:

Play Time: 5' 34"

Hunter Ranks:

X: B
Zero: SA

Nice improvements, and especially nice job on the cannon. Yes vote.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Not many comments on this, that's kind of a shame. Voted yes. Also calling attention to the updated file in the submission text, as it seems the submission file hasn't been updated yet.

Can I vote no based on game choice? I wasn't entertained at all. You just destroy the game that badly. (I'll refrain from voting.)

Bernka, are you done with this run, and you won't try to improve it for at least the next month?
