I just watched the movie of "Dark Castle", when Danny Fowler beats this game really quick. This was one of the few games that i owned back at the Genesis-Era.. and i agree with what Danny wrote about his movie (of this game) --> "one of the worst Genesis games ever made" Another game i also had in my collection, which easily could be placed in the statement above, is "Super Hydlide". Believe it or not, but i played through this game when i was much younger even though i really think it's one of the worst games ever made. It's placed in the RPG-genre, but it's not a big game. It could easily be beaten in a very short time, i think.. (½-1 hour maybe) I would love to see someone go through this game once again. If someone have the patience that is.. this game could be very hard sometimes (need to eat to survive, the towns are closed at night etc), if i remember correctly. :) A request to a very challenging game for Sega Genesis, Super Hydlide. Thanks.

I wouldn't mind seeing a run-through of it myself, if just to see in what order the player does things.

This is a sequel to NES title "Hydlide", I wanted opinions from you guys if this game is any interesting for you to watch. I have made a small test play on Gens 9z. This game is incredible short, along with configable game-speed. I believe I can get this game completed under 40 minute. I have do route planning and some testing on certain items. I'm looking forward to begin a TAS on this game when there's a GM2 release. What do you think?

Ooo, shiny and fast. I can dig it. The speed definitely helps.

I get desynch at about 22 seconds in. You run into some townspeople and get stuck.

rom is Super Hydlide (U) [!] sound rate 44100 3 buttons control plays movie fine And also you need your SRAM specifically for Super Hydlide has 4 or less character created, full slot will make it desync. I don't know what else is the cause of desync. *edit - I also have video uploaded to youtube if you don't want to deal with desync / downloading files.

I have been waiting for a speedrun of this game for years. And finally someone started on it! Thank you so much! I'd like to see more done on it, really. I'll follow this thread closely! *calls cheerleaders in*

Heh, thanks, I'm actually planning it on and off. I'll get it started on new GENS version. Here's my plan I have so far: 1. do lake xp trick to lvl 3, get 4~6 rations 2. get 2275 xp on the way to 10,000 golds and back to town (it's for spells up to MOVE) 3. sleep in INN 4. go to sub city, buy weapon + sleep in INN 5. ... do the rest of the game And here's what I need to do testing before begin a TAS on: 1. Need compass for spaceship? 2. Need ID for water palace? 3. How much health to kill final boss?

I know it's been a while, but I've been planning this for over a week. Cant' say it's going to be amazing, but this was a very hard game to finish back in the day... I did once, but already the WIP is doing it wrong - you need a lot of MF stat to pass one point, and it seems the more you have at the end of the game, the more damage you do. Which I've noticed, the WIP kills "good" enemies, and you can't kill the green trees at the start if you want to have a chance to pass the check, let alone do more damage at the end. The green trees, even though the best xp at the time, are "good enemies". I can at least post all the stats I've uncovered so far. I'd like to attempt this - but is there that much of a demand for it? It's really more of a pain in the butt to do, (there is a lot of technicalities to consider) but is this game something that might be considered for a TAS? (I promise I'll make it... well at least semi-entertaining, with luck manipulation and the best sequence breaking I can figure out)

Not sure why I missed this reply, I got PM about this game so I look. The "good" enemies, I've read about it somewhere saying "killing them makes game harder" but not enough info so I thought shrug, kill em. To the hell with "makes game harder". And "MF point" you talking about, to enter Subterranean City IIRC? I think I remember I checked that level 2 or 3 priest was enough to enter. (that why I was doing the killing on the way to 10000 cash and back to town for more level up then go toward Subterranean next) If you would like to run this game, go ahead.

Nah, I kicked the idea around for a bit, but ran into some problems with the pathing of some mobs in the first dungeon. Also, admittedly I got bored on my normal play through to test some ideas, so I never really got through the first few minutes of the test run and maybe an hour of advancing the story in realtime. The MF stat is "Moral Factor" if I remember right. This goes up slowly (+1) for every "evil" enemy you kill, and drops dramatically (-25?) for every "good" enemy you kill. Thats what I was referring to in the original post. As far as I know, there is no level limitation on anything in the game. Weight and MF are the only two things you really need to be concerned with in a TAS.

Do you have any detail on MF anywhere? That's something else to look into then (with ram hacking to get specific MF level whenever get stuck)
