O_o sounds interesting! Think I'll watch that now (BTW, you're lucky that wasn't a actual ROM file).
So yea, how's it going? Currently TASing: Nothing

I've seen that Rockman 4 MI had been updated a couple days ago. However, the creator has mentioned it isn't finished yet; there are still some hidden things to work out, and the current version is like "version 0.01". So, it isn't quite finished yet. Since the levels are all finished, though, we could now essentially already think up strategies, routes, make testruns, etc. for a full run. I don't doubt a good TAS run of this would deserve publication. That said, for the route, Skull Man seems like an obvious choice for obvious reasons for the first stage (depending only on how fast Skull Man himself can be beaten without any weapons such as the Rush Cannon, which is another obvious high priority asset). From there on I don't really know, though.

Patches are safe to distribute. There is no problem here.

The Mega Man 4 run is not 100%, it collects the Balloon but doesn't collect the Wire. Anyway, that's not really relevant here. In R4MI's case, it's probably better to TAS a 100% run, to maximally show off the hack and its contents.

even if the creator tries to finishit it, it'll probably take years to do it. Maybe should be safe to use this version, since it's tecnically complete...

I dunno about that, the last couple of years a lot of progress has been made, especially with the more innovative features (e.g. Cossack 4). Now that those are all finished now, the smaller things probably wouldn't take as much time to finish, or at least be considered "complete" by the creator now. Either way, unless there are still hidden gamebreaking features to be made yet, it's for now mostly safe for route determining, planning, etc. already. I've been thinking about making a testrun of one or two stages (I did something similar nearly two years ago, with an old version). Maybe I'll get up to something.

That's one heck of a ROM hack! I'm impressed. And the speed of Balloon and Wire should make for some nice TASing shenanigans.

I think you mean Hell Wheel. In fact, what I'm most concerned for is whether that one doesn't break the ability to display the hack contents too much, considering its ability to travel through stages very quickly as well as make short work of some bosses (although Rush Cannon is even worse at that)).

I guess if you're going for 100%, getting Dust Man's weapon is imperative as well, since it's used to get most items... And maybe forgoing Rush Cannon can be beneficial to the run

By the way, how do you obtain Rush Cannon again? Haven't had time yet to start playing it, but it would be quite helpful if I knew how to get it.

A stylistic decision to avoid taking damage should help slow things down and give more opportunities to show off the weapons, since you'd have to kill all the "roadblock" enemies.

By beating Toadman.

I'd like to see this Hack TASed as well. I haven't played it myself yet though, I only know it from videos.

My recommendation? Make a Hell Wheel-less run with as high a hero score as possible (or whatever that score at the end is called).

The past few days I've been working on a run of this; in particular, Skull Man's stage, which would be the base for an any% run. (A 100% would do Dust before Skull in order to get the Skull Amulet, and I also skip Beat here). Personally I think the game could get both an any% and a 100% published. They would actually be somewhat different as far as the route goes, and there are many items that would or wouldn't be collected, side areas that would or wouldn't be visited, etc. Also, I figured out that Rush Cannon is obtained by defeating any three Robot Masters. Here's the FM2: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/535001054/Rockman%204%20-%20Minus%20Infinity-0.fm2 Encode on YouTube: Link to video

That looks absolutely insane. Almost every Mega Man lift I recall from any NES Mega Man game seems to be present. There's only one that I can think of off hand that I didn't see. Rush Search from post NES games? Pokémon music? WTH is this?

Hmm... I look like an ass now. Oops. :) Isn't the author of this hack going to release a few updates? If so why are we making a run now?

First decided to fight the skullman will be very slow The first choice dustman can get the Rush Cannon Stage midway boss can be resolved quickly I Don't know the difference in speed? Sliding and skull weapon (Dust) Large part of the weapons are very powerful (to boss) Order are still groping Take a long time to know the best order. Flexible use of the wire can be faster (Drill)

I don't know if what I'm doing will be submittable. I just figured that now that the game is more or less complete, I could at least just TAS it at least for testrun purposes. And because I know quite a few people would want to see a TAS of this.
woabclf wrote:

Like I said, the Rush Cannon is obtained by defeating three Robot Masters, not by just defeating one. I still wouldn't get the Rush Cannon anyway. Also, beating Dust Man with the buster is at least as slow as Skull Man, since he also has a pattern that's occasionally invincible, when he's sucking in, and, if I recall correctly, the same amount of invincibility on hit (127 frames). Dust Man's stage is a lot slower without Hell Wheel, as it's a very long stage with a lot of walking/sliding.
woabclf wrote:

Hell Wheel is much faster than sliding. I haven't worked out the exact difference yet, but it's clear that Hell Wheel is much faster. EDIT: Slide speed is 2.5 pixels per frame and Hell Wheel at max speed is 4.3 pixels per frame (to be exact, 4 pixels and 76/256 subpixels). This is a significant difference.

True, I haven't even worked out yet what boss to do next after Skull Man. I'm thinking either Ring Man or possibly Drill Man (and collecting Wire depending on how long it takes to get it in Drill Man's stage)

Actually, for 100%, you can still get the Skull Amulet in Wily 3 (refights) if you use Dust on Skull Man there. That means either NOT giving Dust to Copy-Rockman (Snatchman), or if you DID, then refighting Dust Man before refighting Skull Man.

skull => ring => dust (three) => drill (wire) => others Rush Cannon can instantly break the crashman Crit is very beneficial for TAS The need to facilitate adjustment of random numbers Use Lua Need to be familiar with the experts
