Hello again! I bring to you a generic 2-player run of Streets of Rage 2!

About the Run

  • Emulator used: Gens 11b
  • Takes Damage to save time
  • Manipulates Luck
  • One player controlls 2 charcters
  • Abuses glitches
  • Contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs

Tricks

The Handshake of Death
There are actually several ways to perform this glitch, but the name comes from the most common way to do it.
To do it, just have both characters hit the same two or more enemies at the same time. This will cause constant damage to them as long at there are at least two enemies being hit at the same time. This even destroyed a boss at one point.
The downside to this trick is that the enemies can also do it. This is why it's bad to be pinned against walls.
The Double Grab
By having one player attack a grabbed enemy that is being attacked by the other player, both players can grab the same enemy at the same time! This is incredibly useful against bosses with high health as I can constantly Atomic Drop them to death.

I made a lengthy post on my SVN about my thoughts of this run as a whole. Go here to view my comments:
Thank you all who supported this run from the start. That is all.

feos: YouTubed.

Dooty: The overall quality of the run is reason enough to accept this one, let alone the positive audience response. Accepting for publication.
feos: Precessing...

For those who care, this run is a 4:56.96 improvement over Bestiajeruleses run. Anyway, this sounds like it will be quite awesome if you think it is the best TAS you ever made.

Great run! This is one of my favourite childhood games and I still play it now and then, and seeing Skate get some use is awesome. Yes vote!

5 minutes is much… I hardly understand the game process, but anyway it looks impressive. Yes vote. The input at frame ~60900 was aaaaaaaaaaaaaaawesome! Too bad it will not be visible in the video… Great that you always make entertainment where it’s possible

Awesome improvement, and I like the little easter egg you hid in the movie on a certain stage. Yes vote

Having watched the previous movie only 2 days ago. I knew this was going to be something special. Watching this reminded me of the sense of joy I got from watching Nitsuja's Sonic 3 run back in 2006. However, I was initially worried I was going to watch another movie where we see two Max's endlessly bomb dropping everything in sight. Despite that, I knew there is no way a movie is going to get close to 20 minutes doing that for an entirety. So as I watch 1p mode being selected I think "what a let-down". I then pull a wry smile when I see Skate immediately dropping from the top of the screen. After he pulls off one of his trademark backflips. Both Max & Skate release unfathomable carnage onto the Streets of Rage. What I like about watching Max and Skate is that they both so different. Yet compliment each other very well. You have Skate using his Brazilian, Americanized style of fighting. Followed by Maxx's German efficiency. My favourite part of the movie was the level 5 boss fight. For the people on this board who generally don't like scrolling beat em ups. I would strongly urge you all to watch this movie, because if this doesn't change your mind nothing will.

The sound track in stage 8 looks a lot like a song by Enigma called Sadness.

This is wonderful! It gladdens my heart to see the ultimate warrior and R Bear destroyed so cheaply.

Encoding everything.

Out of curiosity, is this done on Mania mode? The "uses hardest difficulty" tag isn't listed.

Yes, it is done on mania difficulty. I found this to be quite entertaining, and liked the fact that despite the strength difference between characters, Max' score did not horrendously out-do Skate's. Yes vote.

Yes, it is done on Mania mode. The author must have forgotten to add the tag to it. Also, I've been watching all of the released WIPs and followed the thread so I am more than happy to see this submitted! I loved every minute of it! Very superb run, Sonikkustar! Clear strong Yes vote!

I didn't think Skate would be that interesting in a 2-player mode. Was a very good surprise. Heck, even picking "1 player" got me puzzled, I thought it was so smart Well yes vote

One of my favorite games of all time gets a big improvement and includes my character of choice (Skate) for the first time. Not much to do but vote yes.
What's a man like me supposed to do with all this extra savoir-faire?

I heart this game so very much. Everything about it is teh awesomez. And this TAS takes it out behind the shed and spanks it like a little bitch. It's the stuff Yes is made of.

Spectacular! You've really ended with a masterpiece, Sonikkustar. This is way more entertaining than the 2-Max submission, and the glitches are great. Just two optimization questions, though, based on comments from Bestiajerule's 1-player run: 1) You do a lot of back-suplexes with Max to finish off enemies. Would a jumping throw be faster? (That's what Bestiajerules often uses.) 2) In Stage 8, by the time Bear Jr. comes out, he's the only enemy. Supposedly he shows up when Hydrogen is destroyed. Is it faster to kill Hydrogen sooner, so you have more enemies to fight at once there?
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

That was impressive! I wasn't hugely a fan of the previous Streets of Rage TASes as they tend to just be the same few moves repeatedly for the entire run. You managed to keep it interesting and varied and still obsoleted the previous run by a huge margin. Gigantic yes vote. :D P.S.
I bring to you a generic 2-player run of Streets of Rage 2
"Generic" is a huge lie. This run is awesome. When I read this, I was getting ready to be disappointed. I wasn't!
