Recorded frame at a time using FCEU. Took about a week to finish, mainly because I was restarting from scratch on a daily basis. This is the third Metal Gear recording I've finished, and the only one that hasn't been deleted.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Uses no passwords
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Manipulates luck
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses death as a shortcut
Glitches:
  • Gas/electricity/water causes no damage if the game is paused for the frame it would usually do so.
  • Items reappear if you use the Tranceiver after collecting them.
  • Tank has no hit detection when at the very top of the screen, and can be walked straight through without taking damage.
  • Floor traps can be frozen by entering any of the menus.
  • The Super Computer can be skipped by holding right as you enter the room.
2 Deaths:
  • The first death is used to jump straight back to the ground floor of Building #1. This saves ~40 seconds.
  • The second death puts me back at the rear of Building #1, where three trucks can be used in sequence to reach the last building. This makes the Compass unnecessary, and skips some backtracking after defeating Coward Duck
Minimal Items:
  • Card #1, Card #2, Grenade Launcher, Card #3, B.B. Suit, Uniform, Card #4, Ammunition, Ammunition, Card #5, Card #6, Rocket Launcher, Ammunition, Card #7, Card #8
  • As far as I am aware, this is the absolute minimum required to complete the game.
15 Prisoners saved:
  • These are required to obtain the Rocket Launcher. 16 prisoners are accessible before this point. Grey Fox talks too much so I left him there.
Bosses killed:
  • Bulldozer, Arnold, Coward Duck, Big Boss. The others were either evaded or skipped.
Other notes:
  • Some screens take longer to load than others. This is also true when exiting the menus. Whenever it was necessary to equip something, I did so wherever the load time was shortest (The best places are inside a truck, an elevator, or a small one-doored room).
  • I tried to take this damage in the places where it saves the most time, and measured it so that I had minimal health before each death and at the end of the game.

Oh - that's pretty fast. Not sure that can be beaten. Like the new glitch. Yes.

Ahaha, that pause glitch is just evil :D I love it, just like in Megaman. I voted yes on this one (duh) And you know, I've always wondered how it can come that Snake can't swim... and even more, why he can't even hold his breath underwater for even one second... What kind of elite soldier is he? :D

Very nice run. You're in always in motion and don't have to wait for anything, that's good. Also you found some new glitches to do [pause glitch is awesome] and used some very neat shortcuts. I also liked the way you didn't collect anything but the absolute necessity and avoided those 'compulsory' items. I don't see this as a boring game, so definite 'yes'-vote.

Man - you're a heartless bastard. You blew up the compound and didn't even "locate missing our grey fox." I was actually wondering about that with the last video if the prisoners could be optimized so only the ones that said the least could be saved, but I thought some gave you information without which you couldn't proceed. For example, can you talk to Jennifer without talking to the prisoner that tells you about her?

ok... is the no vote a joke? not to offend that person, but what was wrong with this run? everything was perfect. completely optimal and NOT boring. so why the no vote? i dont recall seeing the note vote posted here, what gives?

Could be. I recognize all the voters but one. I don't know who voted which.

Was great. The enemy soldiers seem like total idiots after that.

Oh yes indeed, that would rock. ;) But lets not get to that yet and stay with this great movie, I really enjoyed it. All the minor things were just great along with the really accurate movements and so on. Nice work - deserves my yes vote.
