This is a bad choice. Cancelling..
Emulator Used: FCEUX 2.1.5
Game Description: This is a memory game for people of all ages.
Movie Making Description: I used TASEdit in the emulator. Quickest Menu Navigation. It's quicker that way.

DarkKobold: I can judge this

DarkKobold: Hi, and welcome to TASVideos. While this run was well done, this sort of game makes for a very poor TAS. The results are uninteresting, and the methods of luck manipulation are trivial. Rejecting for poor game choice.

List of Bad Game Choices Games intended for small children No, Color A Dinosaur and Where's Waldo don't have gameplay with any meaningful technical content. They are great candidates for April Fools' Day submissions, but no more. Haven't watched yet but based on the title and description I am planning on voting no once I do get a chance

All ages? You sure about that? This doesn't sound like it would make for a good TAS, not only because it's a little kid's game, but because it's a memory game, which is not impressive since all you have to do is use savestates to find the right cards/objects and select them.

o.o? Is it April already... oh wait.. no it's September. DAMNIT! Now I have to wade through Fall and Winter to get back to Spring. Sigh... And on that note... um no. Obvious reasons for people of all ages. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Terrible game choice. Also, just level 1? Decided to download the rom and the movie. Voting no just because of game choice. Edit: Got it to sync. Still looks boring.

What...happened to the poll? I don't see it anymore.

I watched the run (it requires New PPU to sync). While this run is accurately done for this type of game, it seems too easy to optimize, since it is merely a concentration-type game. Gameplay is also very slow. A TAS of a concentration-type game would need the gameplay to go very fast (as in, way beyond human speed) in order to merit publishing on this site, something that very much depends on the game. devanwolf, this run is a good start to practice TASing, and I hope you try a TAS for some other game.

I didn't know you could do that. Was it deleted because there were too many No votes, or because there were fake votes? Or was it an accident, like the Battletoads run poll?

Probably due to all the No votes. I was worried that having a poll for this submission would encourage users to come in, vote no, and then make a bad post to justify voting no. I think now that perhaps it doesn't solve anything to delete the poll, but I am unable to put back the poll due to a site glitch. A submission poll is not the be-all and end-all for judging on this site, so it is not a huge loss. (There were 7 no-votes in the poll and none of any others when it was deleted). By the way, it was the Lester the Unlikely poll that I deleted by accident. Edit: Ilari restored the poll.

I voted yes because no matter what I vote this is going to be Gruefood so I voted no because I think that this is going to be Gruefood and that is why I voted no because I can't remember why I voted no.

main issue with this sort of game is that it's trivial to TAS, and only slightly less trivial to optimize. there are only three tasks. 1) optimize menu movements (easy) 2) optimize board generation (the only difficult one) 3) optimize ingame movement. (easy once you have optimized the board) Possibly interesting TAS ideas for this game. 1) generate a board that has an interesting pattern. 2) get all pairs to be adjacent, such that no square needs to be passed over. this would be an optimized board. this assumes that the cursor stays where it was after a selection. if this is not the case, then not much optimization is possible.

I definitely am looking for some discussion here. Even for a the Vault tier, where game choice is not an issue. Is this still something that should be published? If not, why? What about the requirements could be changed to clearly draw a line between then and "more worthy" game choices? I hope to flesh out some clarification based on the discussion ehre.

How many levels are there? Does this game ever end?

I would say that this shouldn't even go to the vault tier, because of how simple the TAS would be to make. I'm not sure if this abused luck manipulation, or if it is even possible within this game. Of course, this is all based off the game, so I don't really know how to classify it.

So what's the line on game choice?

I would say it's a mixture of technicality and entertainment that isn't based on the game itself, such as interesting stuff in waiting periods. Also, this game has a RNG that is determined when you select which level. In this TAS, it doesn't seem like it was manipulated, so I assume it is sub-optimal anyways.

Too, this is only a single level, and I'm pretty sure those have been rejected in the past for goal choice (F-Zero and Top Gear 1 notwithstanding.)

Nice, you proved that this run can be beaten by a minute. Now there is no choice but to rereject this one. Well, the better movie wouldn't be acceptable too. The "name" entered is a speed-entertainment tradeoff, which is disallowed in the Vault.
