Changes always come with criticism. The site has been through a fair amount of change recently, which naturally leads to a significant amount of criticism in return.
Still, I find it annoyingly hypocritical that those people who were always clamoring against game choice, are now complaining about degrading the site's values. I suppose some people just will never ever be pleased, regardless of what anyone does.

<Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits
<adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.
This was an slightly unnecessary criticism on my part, I just didn't understand why things would have to go to the Submission feed if there wasn't much to vote on since entertainment wasn't a factor. 90% of them haven't received a comment yet.
I apologize if the content of my post was in any way harmful. I was getting angry that many of the arguments people were making were "lol TASVideos is so serious" in response to any criticism posted. It may not be something that I am paid to do, or really even has that huge of an impact on my day to day life, but for the year to year and a half it has been a pretty consistent hobby of mine so I do take it seriously when my hobbies that I could spend hours a week on are affected.
I assumed this would be brought up because I did have the "Bad Game Choice" rule thread that I wrote a great deal in but my response is that my mind had changed on the matter. Even within that thread by the end I had come to understand why the rule existed and as time as passed since then have accepted the rule as the standards were working. TASes are a fairly niche market so the idea of only allowing what the group of TASers seemed best became a good idea in my mind. Conversely, as this process has gone along and the reasons for the change have been stated it has made less and less sense to me why the change was necessary, especially until the, in my opinion, broken rating system is adjusted. I have 11 runs currently published and 1 as a result of the new vault system. That one Vault run currently has a higher rating than 4 of my runs that were published before the entertainment rule was dropped and matches another. I believe this for the most part a result of sample size and again believe there needs to be either a new rating system or a new incentive to rate movies so that we can have a better view of where the movies actually are rated. As I said before, I would actually not care if the tier system was implemented or if the bad game choice rule was relaxed if there was a rating system that could sort out the tiers objectively.
If you actually read the thread that that quote came from instead of just cherry picking you would have realized that that quote along with those surrounding it were a direct quote of AngerFist's (I believe it was 7 or so months ago) post in SwordlessLink Japanese Ocarina of Time thread. I took his post verbatim and changed the words from "language" to "boring" as an attempt at parody as, if you would have checked the date, it was submitted just past midnight but still as close to April 1st as I chose to get with how odd the day was. You will also notice that I removed the said quote because "I edited out the majority of the submission text as the portion was being satirical of the site over the past couple weeks but no one found it funny and people were seeming to get upset with me for my ideas so it is easier to just delete it so I don't have to deal with defending a joke. "
What? How does that quote troll people to quit the site?

Shortly the player point system will be adjusted. As for increasing the number of ratings, I think we all agree that more ratings benefits the site. I'm open to ideas for encouraging ratings. However, keep in mind we are limited on coding man power. Solutions that minimize this will be considered more seriously. Also, please don't discuss this here, that needs to be a new thread.
I think everyone needs to calm down in general. People do take the site seriously, and I don't think that is such a bad thing. It is their choice, I would prefer if users would restrain on the "Lol why so serious" type posts regarding site changes.
And I wish people would talk this out a bit more. After a damning post by goofydylan, it looks like he only really has one major problem with the new system. One that is fixable, and intended to be fixed (ratings).
I am asking everyone who is wanting to ragequit, or attack users, to simply calm down and have a discussion about these things. This is a gradual process and rules/procedures are still forming. You have a chance to help form those.
Also, I think this thread is obsolete as the feature it is about has been removed.
Do y ou know how i got thoses TASes?
Here, lemme show a magic trick, do you see the frame ?
"POST"
Frame's gone!
Sorry i just had to...
On a more serious tone:
I try to not get into "hate wars" but a good TAS requiere a lot of studborness, rigority a strong will and more studborness ...
Those are strong human traits that reflect a lot in our personality.
When a lot of same kind peoples met, things HAVE to sometime heaten up, there is no other way, it's our pationate nature that do the talk.
A comunity is a living thing, peoples leaves new peoples Comes, things changes, never for our personal interest but always for the global interest.
When we don't like the changes, we need to not behave like AVGN's bragging about why it was Better before but be constructive and try to make peoples understand our point of view.
It's stupidly hard, almost impossible ( let's face it after all we're still on the internet)
But trying is the good way to go.
Let's just simply not forget to enjoy what de do, to have fun...

'tasvideos' was a terrible name choice anyway.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself.
It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the
kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional
functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success."
- Onkar Ghate
the blurb at the top of the front page says "down to" which can be read as implying that pokemon and FF are somehow lower or worse than sonic or Mario. the intended meaning holds just fine if you remove the word 'down'.
I... apologize for being awesome?
Maybe you're just stalking me and lampshading it to make it seem like a coincidence? I'm onto your fiendish game, mister.
...anyway, I'm going to stop derailing the thread now. :p
Wow, this has got to be the most fickle community I've ever seen. EDIT: OK, not fair for judging the community. How about, you've got some of the most hilariously fickle members I've ever seen. :D
To anyone leaving: Nobody cares! (This is the proper response on any community when you get people leaving or threatening to leave)
Posting about your leaving isn't exactly bold, it gives an exact reference point to show that you're terrible at making promises when you inevitably come back.
If you don't come back, then you've proven me wrong. ;)
As someone who actually has a run published with the AVGN tag, I'm glad it's there. He's awesome and everyone knows who he is, so it's a good and easy way to make a movie stand out as significant to many casual viewers. It's ridiculous that people care at all.
Also, I love that my OoT runs' threads are still being brought up. So satisfying.
im fine with the avgn link, but why did you guys linked ducktales to his videos? he never did a review for ducktales... and its a very good game
http://tasvideos.org/Alden/Exhibitions/AVGN.html
I believe he did. Let me find it.
Edit: It's removed, but according to Wikipedia, he did it on February 10, 2007
Edit 2: And.....adelikat found it. Thanks!
Oh, you know how it is, adelikat loves rolling around on his huge pile of ad revenue cash, extracted from the tears of our users. He also sells young Somalians into slavery, steals the dentures from WW2 veterans for sale on the black market, and time travellers hire him to punch certain pregnant women in the stomach. All for the almighty dollar.
Or maybe he thought it was fun. You know? Fun?

I started a spreadsheet here. It's adapted from this list. Documenting every AVGN game reviewed is quite a lot of work. The spreadsheet needs the games separated into rows and then a link to TASVideos's game entry.
