Introduction

This submission improves the vaulted [2125] NES North & South by Chamale in 01:20.02. This run is 546 frames faster (509 frames faster than #3752: JWinslow23's NES North & South in 01:19.40) thanks to
  • better movement with the mouse
  • starting the game 2 frames faster
  • using level 3 enemy (because he will be aggressive, you can easily rush forward)
  • plays as the south because they have a better levels/spawn

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.1.6
  • Aims for fastest possible time
  • Uses hardest difficulty unlike the former one
  • Entertains without losing a frame (avoiding the bullet and it looks "easy" on 1st fight, 2 horse is enough at 2nd fight)

Detailed informations

It's possible to luck manipulate both the enemies in the fight and movement of the AI in the map. This can be achieved by starting the game delayed after the intro. This route was the fastest (starting 2 frames faster). Also a North run is much slower.

Possible improvement

This would require a discovery of a new glitch which I don't think exists. Maybe 1 frame can be achieved randomly, which doesn't happened to me.

Miscellaneous

I hope you enjoyed my TAS. Thank you everyone who wished me happy birthday, you are so kind!
See you until my next tas (no, I won't submit tases everyday) =)

Nahoc: Claimed for judging.
Nahoc: Accepting as an improvement over the vaulted previous movie.

Hahah, yeah, that's not much of a war. Reminds me of when I play Civilization on Chieftain, and I send my tanks to fight phalanxes.

I don't like the idea of the South winning the war, but, this looks like a good improvement. Yes vote.

I have cancelled my submission of this same game in favor of yours. Nice improvement, and certainly one I would not have thought of! A sure yes vote from me! (Also, if you know some important RAM values that would be helpful anywhere, especially in battles or fort/train capturing, can you give them to me? Glitches would also be very helpful! Thanks in advance!) Edit: I have discovered a glitch is the fort-raiding and train-raiding levels in which pressing left and right at the same time crashes the game (i.e. any input you do other than resetting the console, which I do not know how to do with button inputs, will not affect the game, and it stays on the same screen for the whole time). It will not be of much help if I don't find a button code to soft-reset (or hard-reset) the game, however, so if anyone can find one, let me know! WIP can be found here.
If I could have a tool-assisted real life, I'd... Being a novice, I'd probably load the wrong state, have the IRS AI bankrupt me, and eventually make me want to kill myself and redo 11 years of hard work.

I didn't watched the RAM since the game is pretty basic. But here you the manipulation I did detailed: Manipulating the AI's movement on the map: start the game later/faster after you skipped the intro. There's isn't many variations in the first iterations, but more turns will show more difference. Manipulating the AI's movement in battles: this depends on the enemy AI (higher level makes him more aggressive so you can end the battles faster) and also doing actions timed differently (I manipulated this to get hexa kills of soldiers and getting better position for enemy artillery).

You can soft reset the game by either using the menu of FCEUX (Nes > Reset) or editing your FM2 movie file (the line where you want to make a reset, change the "0" to "1"): Instead of a typical |0|........||| to |1|........||| . hard-reset is |2|........|||

Ok, MESHUGGAH, I will take your advice! Oh, and BTW, can you give me a score on my WIP on a scale of 1 to 10? Also, try to find glitches, Easter eggs, or oddities in the game if you can! Thanks in advance!

I watched the wip. Okay these big letters in taseditor was really sudden and I like it! Personally I found your wip entertaining, those horses are so horny =) I would give it a 8.0 but since I don't know how long will it be, this will change.

A new WIP can be found here. Please watch, MESHUGGAH! Tell me if this is publication material (even if it inevitably DOES go in the Vault)!

Make sure to write all the entertainments you have added! I've feel entertained while watching it. I don't know how the audience will accept it, but my improved vaulted runs got much better than the former ones.

OK. Thanks for the feedback, MESHUGGAH! I'll submit it and see how the others think of it (especially some of the judges)! Edit: Submission can be found here.
