This TAS saved 12495 frames (roughly 3 minutes and 28 seconds) from goofydylan8's cancelled submission and 12 seconds from my last attempt in nico. I don't plan to upload this record again in nico. Feel free to do so then. This TAS aims to beat the game without scrolling glitch or password.

Game Objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Glitchless
  • Sings karaoke
  • Violates common sense

Route

Japan

Obtain 700,000 yen and quit job in office. Then buy hang glider license, boarding tickets for africa. Sings karaoke and just waiting 5 minutes with blue screen to reveal map. You have to kill old man or he will kill you before ending. Next, get drunk and divorce and go africa.

Africa

You must exchange your money in bank to buy things here. You need needlework, bottle and gun. Gun isn't necessary for beating this game actually but I couldn't beat hang glider without it sadly. When you land 4th Island then trade bottle with old man and go west, trade needlework with people and get stone to enter mountain. Wander caves for some time then you'll be rich if old man doesn't come to steal your treasure.

feos: Accepting for Vault.

I'd like to watch this in the emulator, but there seem to be two ROM versions out there: a 1986 version and a 1990 version. Which one did you use? Or could you put the CRC of your ROM up here? (That should be allowed by the rules.)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

Wouldn't the FM2 have the MD5 hash in it?

Hmm... I didn't think of that. I'm not entirely sure how to use that, to be honest. It doesn't really matter here, since I got both ROMs and found that the 1986 version worked. As for the run, honestly, it's not really entertaining. The best parts were the collision abuse with the birds and the UFOs in the flying stage, as well as seeing how many enemies you barely dodge at the end (although the menu pause trick feels a little overused). I'm going to have to give this a No vote for entertainment, unfortunately, BUT... I thank you a lot for making this. I've always been curious about what the "intended" path through this game would look like, and it's rewarding to see it, even when the product isn't all that interesting. This could be better, though, with subtitles that point out the most important story points (like the divorce).

こんなけ゛ーむに まし゛に なっちゃって どうするの Why are you taking this game so seriously? Yes, as a speedrun. No, for entertainment.

Question: What happens when you miss the island on the glider stage? Does it just loop indefinitely or do you get killed by an airplane? I honestly forgot.

According to http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Takeshi_no_Chousenjou/Walkthrough , you eventually crash into the side of a mountain for a game over. Edit: Again disappointed that the encoder did not include the secret end message in either of the two published encodes. I even made a note about it here but it was ignored.

I'm still trying to beat this game using the secret technique of throwing 30'720 punches on the title screen. I'm already up to 27'843.....
