This is an improvement of 18360 frames to the published glitched run and an improvement of 4494 frames to MUGG's unsubmitted, faster glitched run.
I started it immediately after I saw TASeditor's post in the Kirby's Adventure thread about a glitch he had recently found to clip through sloped hills. As soon as I watched his video demonstrating the glitch, I was motivated to spend the rest of my afternoon and night creating this improvement to the glitched run of my favorite game.

About the run

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.1 (Old PPU)
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Abuses glitches
  • Genre: Platform

Room by room comments

Room 1

  • I tried and tried to improve the beginning of this level, and almost did by 1 frame, but I just couldn't manipulate those Waddle Doos to jump toward Kirby and also not use their laggy attack, so I just hand-copied the same (apparently perfect) input over.
  • I discovered a little trick to turn Kirby around right before he swallows the Mix, saving a few frames because he doesn't have to turn around after the transformation.
  • I had some trouble sliding off of the tall mesa and not taking damage from the Hot Head and losing my ability or killing it and bouncing very high (both scenarios would waste time). By sliding off the mesa at just the right frame, I bounce low enough to enter the door without wasting a whole bunch of time.

Room 2

  • Kirby moves slower on slopes, so I jump over all of them in this room and all but one in the next (you'll see why).
  • The way I puff up and spit at the Bronto Burt is the fastest I found to do it without accidentally manipulating the Sparky at the end of the room to use his very laggy attack.

Room 3

  • I jump once at the very beginning to manipulate the Hot Head to not use his laggy attack on screen (he uses it after I leave the screen, but the level doesn't lag).
  • By jumping very high over the Poppy Bros. Jr., I make the Waddle Doo jump too, preventing him from using his laggy attack and just getting in the way of the glitch.
  • You can't clip through the slope with just one jump. You need at least two 1-frame jumps, one right after the other. The first jump pushes you into the line of the slope (where the game can push you back out if it wants to), and the second one decisively puts you on the other side of the line.
  • Once Kirby is inside the slope, I turn to stone to slow his lateral movement to move him slowly into the water (so he doesn't skip right to a swimming animation) and then use the stone glitch to skip to the credits.

Thanks to

  • TASeditor for finding, sharing, and demonstrating this clipping glitch
  • MUGG for his previous glitched runs

feos: Setting to delayed until the frame war ends and we finally have a new movie.
feos: The framewar is over, CoolKirby promised to cancel this submission in favor to the final one, I guess it won't harm is I do so while he is away.

A red doo? Do you mean that pink Waddle Doo or a brown Waddle Dee? If it's the Waddle Dee then it is obvious that you get Spark. To get Mix you have to swallow two enemies that would give you powers which a Waddle Dee does not.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)

That two. Don't know the names. If I swallow them, I get spark. edit: so which place did you thought where's there a Waddle Doo and spark?

Yep that's a Waddle Dee. And as I said, Waddle Dees don't give you powers so they can't be used to get Mix.

I was thinking killing the waddle doo, then go slightly past the sparky before heading left a bit to make the waddle doo reappear and walk right. But I can't seem to get the sparky and waddle doo to not attack.

Any status update? Here's my final one: the 1 frame improvement done by removing a lag frame which later comes back. Ends around 2170 frame. If nobody has any idea or couldn't improve my 2169 run, than someone should submit it (I used Masterjun's wip and as I said, I'm not demanding any co-authorship).

The person that finds the LAST improvement must submit it and list everyone who came up with improvements ITT as co-authors. No one disagreed with that proposal so far.

But everyone should agree with it, right? Should we ask everyone who participated?

Well, according to old TASVideos rules precedents, a winner doesn't even have to list other participants if he really thinks that he could achieve the same result without them. But in a long shot, the collaborative atmosphere is better motivator than competitive one.

I still think what I suggest is how SM64 tasers work. They make an initial movie and everyone tries to improve it. The ones who succeed then go to the list of authors. This thread now just was the place where everyone added a bit of improvements (similar to Games forum threads), we can't throw anyone away. We now only must trace whose improvements were really preserved during the process.

I'm fine with collaboration. Should we message everyone who made an improvement and ask if they'd like to be a co-author? Or just put them in? (I'm worried that MUGG won't want his name on another site publication, even though he made a really big improvement.)

As you see, I'm curently trying to squeze out a few frames. Using dash to kill sparky saves from a lot of lag frames, this way I leave room 1 10 frames earlier, edit: but it gives too much lag frames. TASeditor's advice (delying the frame you exit the room) is working, I have a 1860 room 2 exit movie (4 frames earlier than 2169f movie if I'm correct). But now I need to research the most optimal sacrifice and gain overall in the movie. So... it will take time.... I will try to also show the movie but I didn't successfully clip the wall no matter how I position myself.

*hugs Spikestuff back* Thanks for listing all the authors, by the way. That'll help in the final submission. Good luck on your efforts, MESHUGGAH!

The frame wars post was also a nice touch by Spikestuff. I'm currently at 2163 frame by improving room 1 with (10 improvements - 1 delay ==) 9 frames and room 2 with (8 improvements - 1 delay) 7 frames compared to 2169 run. (6 frames total). Currently I'm trying to optimize the wall clipping, a few frames lost there because of lag frames. Demo soon. here. (link fixed)

Woohooo! Sub 36 seconds. I knew that was possible. Have you also tried delaying frames before you enter level 1?

No luck with that, gives random lag frames early room 1. Different jump starts helps but can't remove them later. It's on the TODO list...............

Wow, that was beautiful! Way to save 6 more frames! How likely is it that the credits can be skipped to just by turning to stone, and not having to manipulate the crash 13 frames later? If we can't get it to happen, it might always be a possible improvement.

After a lot of observations and TASing sessions, my final movie is 2158 frames long. You can download the movie here. I will submit it 10 hours later. I will add all the participants as co author who made an improvement to the game (particularly: CoolKirby, TASeditor, was0x, MUGG and Masterjun)

Great work, MESHUGGAH! And thank you for crediting all of us for helping optimize this run. I'll cancel this submission before I go to bed tonight so yours can replace it a few hours later.
