This is an improvement over my other Nightfire run, seen here: #3695: gamerfreak5665's GC 007: Nightfire in 42:30.40
Well, finally after about a year, I got motivated enough to give Nightfire another shot. I'm sort of disappointed from my first TAS because I did not optimize everything as much as I should have. But thanks to aleckermit, he and I tackled this game and pushed it to it's limits. The goal of this TAS is to get through the game as fast as possible. Thanks to the new clipping technique, we were able to shed off a lot of time from the old run.
I would also like to give a lot of credit to TheVeman3000 and Lo1ts for finding out about the clipping tricks that made the run even better.
Here are some notes on the run (some of them are the same as before) :
  • This run uses a new clipping technique found by the two I mentioned above. Info on that can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKbKej1mkRs
  • Walking straight and strafing at the same time is faster than walking forward
  • played on hardest difficulty.
  • took damage to save time.
  • The instances where i use the Decryptor are when I cannot open the door any other way.
aleckermit did Enemies Vanquished, Island Infiltration, and Equinox. I did the rest of the levels.
As a side note, loading times in between levels are faster on the emulator than the actual GC console.
aleckermit also wanted to mention that Island Infiltration was the worst thing he's ever been through in his life. :)
Also, make sure you use Dolphin 3.5 - 1060, or it will not sync (as well as unchecking Dual Core and Idle Skipping)
That's it! Hope you enjoy!

GCN TAS of the year son! 100x more entertaining than the previous run IMO. Even though I saw each level as they were completed the full run put together was a blast to watch. And yeah the faster load times save ~3 minutes over the course of the run compared to an actual Gamecube/Wii, making this ~5 minutes faster than the current console WR on Operative difficulty.

One of my questions from the previous submission still stands I see: Is it possible through RAM watching to find out which code is the right one for the keypads, without using the Decryptor first? I will watch this later and give my opinion at that time.

A nice, glitchy improvement. The parts on foot are really entertaining, while the vehicle section aren't as much. It still rounds up to being a recommendable run, so a yes vote.

/me looks at Nahoc >_>
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Watched it now. My question a bit higher up in the thread still stands. Other than that this was a lot more entertaining than the previous TAS, and I did enjoy all the things drawn with bullet holes a lot. I do however think that the drawing on the screen in one of the final levels could have been more "007 inspired". The planning and execution was also a lot better here, specially shooting and health management stuck out to me. I'll vote yes.

Yeah about the square... first of all that mounted gun only allows for 2 possible diagonal directions, it aims very strangely. I started up drawing boobs, but they looked terrible because of the aiming and then tried drawing a small silenced PPK but it turns out the bullet decal limit is very low for this gun and it started to erase itself as I drew. Got fed up and did a square. The level in total took me ~17 hours because of fretting about running out of health and the time consuming nature of aiming at moving targets while I was also moving. Edit: Oh you meant the computer screen bullet hole fill, I kinda liked that (Gamerfreak did it).

Too many compression artifacts in the encode, therefore voting no. I'm obviously kidding.

lol, I almost believed you. Yeah, I'm never going to encode to .wmv files for youtube again. Kinda stupid on my part.

Thanks for voting yes! In response to your question, there is no RAM watch in dolphin (at least not the official version). The only RAM related thing Dolphin has is a RAM search via the Cheat Manager, which doesn't update itself per frame. Whenever I type in the code on the exact frame that the lock requires, it doesn't open it. This means that the door was never meant to be opened by typing in the code.

Ok, no one thought the "007" WRITTEN WITH A MASHEEN GUN was the best screen shot? You have all failed me.
