Yeah, I though that skipping the temples alone should save a lot of time on its own. I don't know what's causing the desynch problems, but keep at it.

If this game doesnt get thrown out, to answer the time question. I am saying that this game will be done in sub 1 hour 55 minutes :) That means, skipping at least 6-8 cutscenes that last 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. skipping the 2 temples I went to last time. Its all science.
Wow, I never thought that a few route changes and some advanced gameplay would cut off >20% of the old run's time. I guess I underestimate the new stuff.

This will be amazing if Guano doesn't throw it out. Sub 01:55:00 would be phenomenal. Please don't chuck it. Desyncs are annoying, we all know that, but it is worth it (in my opinion) for the finished product.

When making these movies we're recording game button input, so that when you replay the file in the game itself it "plays out". A desynhc is when making or watching the movie, the input and what is going on in the game becomes thrown off by as little as one frame, which can be very crucial and cause the replay of the game to not work, in that the button input that is being done doesn't make the character progress, like running against walls, dying and such.

Well, dealing with this piece of desynch. I dont know what to do anymore. I have literally got past the owl 5 times and everytime I play back the movie, the god damn son of a bitch flies a different direction. I have jumped over the gate 3 times to come to realize that I have to go back and see if that owl wants to fly the right way. I might be throwing this away because of desynch issues. I really hope you don't give up. :) In the mean time, while we are all waiting for Guano to do this TAS, my rejected OoT run may keep you guys entertained. http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_older;action=display;num=1163965351;start=0 I'm sure some of you know about it by now, but I'm just posting it for those who don't. It got rejected because of the Skulltula Vine Glitch in the Deku Tree. I have yet to officially time it but the unofficial time is 2:33:07.

Oh no it got rejected? bummer, 100% seemed like a lot of effort and from the sounds of it it seemed really good. Back to this run, I was able to get the last .m64 post to work perfectly, it wasn't before, so I'm glad that I can view the .m64's for this from now on.

fluffy didn't do a 100% run, he did a any% run. I'm doing the 100%.

thank you fluffy kitten for the link, I'm downloading right now.

couldn't you just replace the Deku Tree segment? Time isn't flowing inside the Deku Tree, and if the amounts of hearts/items/munition at the start and the end of the replacement segment match the glitched segment, it shouldn't be a problem, right? (no, I didn't read the 51 pages at SDA. Sorry if it was suggested or answered already)

nate already said that the other trick (infinite sword glitch + skulltula) was acceptable, but the whole entire run would have to be redone so as to ensure continuity, even if time stands still in the Deku Tree.

Just as a clarification, SDA has different start and end points for timing the run. This run is actually about ten minutes slower than Guano's run, but it's a very well done job, nonetheless.

I just got done retiming it and the time I got was 2:29:12. That means that it's very close to what Guano's first TAS got. I think that if this TAS gets finished that Guano will definitely get Sub 2 hours. To the people downloading my run: I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. I hope a new version of Mupen comes out soon so that there's no desynchs. :)

Just wondering, besides the shadow block skip and deku tree trick, what accounted for the 30+ min saved over the previous run?

You can skip those? I thought the rainbow bridge cutscene couldn't start until you have both medallions. So Forest is the only one needed?

Isn't rainbow bridge also skipped? by not having the medallions the cutscene doesn't come, and you can blast your way across the gap anyways?

Using bomb hovers? Well I guess that could work, as long as you have the big bomb bag. EDIT: wait a minute ... don't you need the spirit medallion to get the "sheik unveiled" cutscene, or is that cutscene not necessary for Ganon's castle to appear?

Ganon's castle is always there when you're an adult... >_<

Ok, I confess: I've been using TSA's 4:57 run as a video walkthrough most of the time. Only recently have I really begun exploring the world of OoT.

Me too, until I switched to using Guano's first run as reference. Then came bottle adventure, and I had to relearn all the new stuff people discovered. I'm still 95% sure of the new stuff.

quick question. Would getting bombchu's and chu's only work if you did the reverse bottle trick for more bombchu's? Or bombs, cause I need bombs for supersliding... EDIT: This might save time from going somewhere to obtain bombs, or whatever.... I'll work on some OoT :)

What's the reverse bottle trick? I've been following this thread for pretty much all its existence and I haven't heard it come up (or else I'm blind).

I think he may mean reverse bottle adventure, but I don't thinks so. All I could get it to do was give you more deku nuts, or replace items w/ bottles, including one's you didn't have yet. And you could also add fish etc to the bottle w/out equipping it and putting it in there as well. Unfortunately, Bottle B is the only item I am aware of that, when on on B, swaps bit addresses and allows us to manipulate our Menu/B button. Oh well. See, reverse bottle adventure was using bottle B to update items into your inventory that you didn't have, or make changes to preexisting items. The goal was to see if we could get light arrows w/out having to go back in time... In fact, if it was feasible we would get bow and light arrows like that and skip all of forest, as well as being able to do easy ganon early using bombhover. Unfortunately it didn't turn out. I was able to get it so that bottles were in that places in the menu where things like light arrows were, but I was unable to find a way to get it to change back into light arrows. If someone was to find this, they would save quite a bit of time off future TASes and also v1.0 speedruns of OoT. I mean think about it... when you turn a deku nut into a bottle using bottle swap trick, if you pick up another deku nut, it is no longer a bottle, and is a deku nut again... so, I was looking either for a way that was purely menu/B based to get it to turn into light arrows, or for a way to just turn that bottle in that spot back into light arrows. Also, bottle adventure is used to get light arrows on B. Since you don't have megaton or even the mastersword equipped (Light arrow B), then you can't use sword glitch. Which means that you have to cross the gap the "HARD" way. Aka, climb a seam, backflip onto another seam, follow it to the end, use a bomb/bomchu and do a bomb-boosted hover into a backflip. Then time a late shield dropped bombchu damage boost onto the other side. Then follow it around, and then do a hover superslide over to ganon's tower. Easy huh?
