Well, if it is on Hard, shouldn't it be run?

So I did. I did it at like 1-3 in the morning, so I might do a second take and write down some of the better jokes I used. Most of it was me just watching the video and casting some jokes, and trying to avoid ripping off of JXQ. I think I did okay, but I might do a second run and keep some of the jokes in mind. Given some of the positive feedback to JXQ's and NapsterPSX's ones I figured I would cast my hand in here. I'd love some feedback. Anyone know where I could host it from? It's 163 MB.

If it's as innapropriate as this thread... well...
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

What's inappropriate about it? The fan-commentary on the Earthbound speedrun went in the SNES area. I figured this was the closest thing that was similar.

maybe its your topic name or maybe its because some people here dislike new threads ;) they prefer old threads with 5000 pages :D

I think this topic should be in the general section.

no, it allows 1024 mb.
The file is 163 mb, so why does the exact upload allowed matter as long as the file fits?

So Am I supposed to sync it to the AVI? EDIT: After listening to it, you do a good job matching it to sync with an AVI of it. My apologies for misunderstanding. It seems so odd but it works.

It took me a while to sync up since there wasn't too many reference points at the start. So it took till the run entered the Deku Tree for me to sync it up. It was definitley a respectable attempt, my favourite part was when you accidentally said bottle opener instead of letter opener and the Zelda reference after Dondongos was completed, as well as the "Taking a break, OK I'm back. That must of been like a second for you guys.". I felt you made too many references to JXQ and Guanobowl, most of the references I would have been oblivious to (or not realised) had you not mentioned either of them. My favourite of all was when you were completely taken by surprise the shadow early trick, although there was various parts where you didn't even realise you'd witnessed a trick or something unintentional.

I suppose the best way to avoid making too many references to JXQ's commentary is to not have heard it before; seeing that I'm under that criteria, I may give a try at making my own commentary, and see what happens. Would people prefer more jokes or explanations on the tricks being used (since I'm very familiar with the techniques of OoT?)

i find a balance of the two is best. it's what i did when i made commentary for the current any% at SDA.

The best commentary would be one from Bloobiebla himself, detailing the stuff that only the TASer would know.

I could give it a second attempt and just flat out say "Yeah I'm going to steal some jokes from JXQ, thought I'd let you know" and go from there. Though I suspect that SL's probably right.

That is not a bad idea of course. I think the second best option is to have someone who is relatively unfamiliar with the game and especially new discoveries in it do a commentary, as that is part of what made JXQ's commentary great. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't find some random knowledgeable Zelda person commenting on the run all that interesting because they're probably not going to tell me much more than I already know. I think it's more interesting to get reactions from people outside of the Zelda speedrunning community.

I've said this before. You have a two-person commentary, one OoT expert, and one amateur. You learn the most when the expert explains to the amateur what's going on and it's also the most entertaining.

Well, I'll try making one on friday or over the weekend and see what happens.

I could sit down and make out a script of funny things to say and try and get as many jokes as possible in there, much like an MST3K instead of highly technical commentary. Although I think I was just too proud of my Shinespark joke. I mean I won't if everyone pretty much agrees yeah, it wouldn't be interesting. But I'd like to make a contribution beyond just watching since I've got no interest in making TAS runs despite being a huge fan.

Maybe you should try making commentaries of other games too? I've thought about doing so myself, I'm just too lazy :P Also: don't bother too much with what other people may or may not think, do it for fun ;)
I make a comic with no image files and you should read it. While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free. -Eugene Debs

Welp, so much for me trying my own commentary. Laptop went explodify last night (just before a 3 day weekend, dammit!!!!); need new one pronto. When I get a new one I'll have a go at it.

I think I might give a shot at the Lufia 2 speedrun. I loved that game and I've got lots to say, so I'll give it a shot.
