Even if it were to work like that, I'd expect it to be just like any other star animation, where it bounces up and down, going through mario, and he simply gets to touch it on the first possible frame while in midair. so, only a few frames saved relle.

But remember, Chamale is thinking about the time of the "final controller input", not the time that the ending sequence begins. I admit it's a little silly, just trying to crunch down your length of play time on the submission info rather than truly making the movie shorter, but hey...

unless someone figures out how to talk or initiate text in mario64 without mario's feet being on the ground, this discussion is really silly

This discussion is really silly.

Agreed; there should be more feedback on the latest WIP.

It's not like mario's feet leave the ground the frame you hit the jump button... Maybe if he jumps 1 or 2 frames before talking to bowser, his feet will still be "on the ground" to the game but he will jump after clearing the text.

Then prove it to us or stop talking.

+1 Let's stick to the run and wait until Rikku posts a new WIP.

Dude, there's no need to be sorry, I tested it out myself and there's no possible way to jump before the text starts or between the end of the text and the start of star animation.

So, what's the status? Any progress worth showing?

Nice movement, looks really well played. Question: you use a strange path for Lil' penguin lost, what is the difference in time between that and the more common route?

I liked the new route for lil penguin lost. However you left out one of my favorite parts from FODA's tas, where he pans the camera out while racing the penguin and getting all the coins. Also, would it not be faster to jump and do a stomp before the two snowballs join so you can get the star instantly?

I believe you have to activate the text with the snowball by pressing A (ie while mario is on the ground). Same problem that has been discussed ad nauseum for the past two pages with bowser.

I couldn't fault this. Good job. Are you able to provide any frame comparisons on your new 'lil penguin lost' strat? I wasn't entirely convinced that it was faster. Also, how much time has been saved over FODA's run by this point?

The new lost penguin strat is exactly the same frame count wise, but I'm convinced its slightly slower overall.

If it is the same number of frames, how can it be slower?

Maybe because Mario puts the pengiun down in the sequence where the star appears, so he wastes some frames turning around and starting the jump. Just guessing though.

Or perhaps he meant the other method has the potential to be faster if fully optimized.
What's a man like me supposed to do with all this extra savoir-faire?

yes, thats exactly what I meant, but I'd prefer to see that strat used in the 120 star run, for stylistic reasons.

Wait.. You got this the other method has the potential to be faster if fully optimized. out of this? The new lost penguin strat is exactly the same frame count wise, but I'm convinced its slightly slower overall. What language am I speaking? Also, wouldn't the "could be optimized more" rule be applicable to both methods?

You need to highlight the post to see the hidden spoiler text (its the same color as the background).
