Okay than I drop it and make it normal.

It sounds stupid but the text box closed one frame sooner.

This is probably still not true. For one thing, every time the camera turns while some direction is being held, the chance of losing frames is quite high because the analog stick must be rotated with extreme precision to keep Mario moving in a perfectly straight line. And if the number of angles Mario can move at is greater than the number of angles the game can recognize the control stick to be at (which I think is true), one way to take advantage of that extra precision as much as possible (to save a few frames here and there) is with perfect control of the camera. The fastest theoretically possible run may need to change the camera angle and distance and mode in very specific ways, numerous times, even where there is no lag. I'm not suggesting Rikku is or should be looking for such optimizations to that extent, but I doubt speed is completely unaffected by most camera-related decisions.

This game still has a long way to go until true optimimization is reached, it will require memory, speed, angle viewers much like the screenshot below, and even then its possible to cast reasonable doubt.

which is why 3d games will always be harder to optimize than 2d games, despite the arguments of a certain stubborn faction in this forum.

Yes, because of 360 degree analog movement, enemies, and goals.

I re-read the past few pages of this thread and I suppose that no one directly stated that Rikku was sacrificing entertainment for speed. I just don't see why people are saying Rikku's run is going for speed to justify camera angle problems when camera angles don't affect speed (at least for the level of optimization that can be achieved for a 3D game like this.)

it justifies because he's not wasting any of HIS time to think about camera angles. he's only thinking about speed. the camera angle is whatever he used to get the fastest time.

As one of 'dem "camera hatahs" I'm going to say much better camera work on this level, I have no complaints this time around. In fact, one of the frozen positions of Mario in mid jump, when he does the 180 turn-around jump to get a star was very amusing. And this stage was played through very fast, you used all the slopes and walls to your benefit to speed Mario along.

Looked good as far as I could tell. I always love it when you use wall-kicks when I am not expecting it to save time.

Why this obsession with camera angles people? The issue has already been addressed, its just getting annoying now.

Was it just me, or was your use of the belly slide to get into the area with the 5th star slightly slower than when you used it to get to the 6th star?

Wet Dry World was even more funnier and entertaining than the previous stage! Rikku, your run is easily turning out to be one of the best runs. And at this pace, your run will be finished within 2 months. Go Rikku Go!

I don't sleep, and even I don't work as fast as you do! I'm beginning to get this feeling that you TAS in an alternate dimension where time does not exist. ok, so the level was fast and well done. no complaints. my only question is rematch against koopa the quick.... you seemed to go around the entire island, was this faster?

You have to wait for the Koopa anyways.

FODA went around the opposite side of the island also. Rikku was slower than FODA (by 2.2 seconds) but it was probably just for entertainment's sake. Either way, as long as you get to the flag pole before Koopa does, it won't affect the length of the run. Anyway...Tiny Huge island was amazing in my opinion. Keep up the good work! *watches again*

Like kirbymuncher said. You must wait for Koopa. In the moment where you talk to koopa until the goal, this time where koopa run cant avoid (or give a way to avoid this ???).

It's amazing to see this kind of progress, not to mention improvement, in such a short period of time. I've been playing mario 64 on my wii recently and I was surprised to see how much harder it was than I remembered.

Just wanted to point out that, to my knowledge, this is not true. There was unassisted speedrun competition on the stars in this game and the KTQ stars were obtained faster by people who got to the pole faster. Koopa speeds up to get there once you're there. Of course, there may be some upperbound to this speed... Still, I hope it was tested.
