I have suggested for them to make it like this: - aims to acquire maximum amount of coins of the main 15 courses as fast as possible. But it'll also need to have a restriction not to use any "infinite" coin multiplication glitch, because that'd make the run hours long.

As well as every coin in the Secret Courses, since we'd need to go to them for caps and stars anyway. The coins in the Lobby will be collected automatically because of the Lobby Glitch. We're still debating whether to grab the coins under the bridge outside when we go to the Vanish Cap stage.

So this one will also be a 120-star run? Btw, did the ghosts in the backyard give coins? And would you collect the ones in the fountain?
Which run should I encode next? :)

It would be a minimum star run, collecting all coins. Note: he needs to collect a star that ends the level in order to compute the acquired coins. So he can't grab the coins and then exit the course (pause menu). That being said, he'd get the 100 coin stars in the first levels (pre-mips), and then the 8 red coin ones. And then, after MIPS, I believe he can ignore the 100 coin star after it appears, and go just for the 8 red coins one.

I see no reason not do it, it would just be fun to see Mario do some acrobatics.

I agree, but then we'd have to get the ghosts outside of BBH to make it even. So to get the ghost and bridge coins, or to...not get the ghost and bridge coins.

I vote to get them. They arent terribly out of the way. I forget is it possible to get every coin in the wing cap stage? I know there was a competition on gamefaqs for it but I dont remember if anyone ever grabbed them all.

I remember following a video or two that showed it. the quality was craptacular, but I was able to make out Mario getting them all. and there were like 3-4 videos all accomplishing the same thing, so I presume it's been done. even if it hadn't, that's what a TAS is for, right?

In all its craptacularness.

But you can get 100 coins and make the star appear, and then continue with the rest of the coins without grabbing the star. After getting all the coins you can grab the 100-coins star and then exit the course via pause menu.

Why not just get the red coin stars as well, with exception to the Bowser stages and secret star levels, you should end up with 30 stars overall.

I'd suggest just starting from a 120-star file and submitting the finished run as a concept demo. Then there'd be no need to collect "extra" stars just for the sake of beating the game.

Whether or not we get the red coin stars, we have to get one non-100-coin-star star per level to lock the coin scores into the game. The most likely thing we'll do is get the star nearest to the last coin we pick up.

Man who the hell uses a digicam to take a video of a crt. So painful to watch that for 2 seconds. If you cant be assed to use a vcr, video capture card, or frapps you shouldnt bother.

AFAIK, there isn't a way to start from SRAM yet in Mupen

I think the run should beat the game. That's the plan for a few other 100% runs (I.E. Pokémon Blue catch 'em all)

Why would it not? Not going to get every coin on Bowser 3 and then just jump off the edge is he?

If possible, I agree, and I still think getting the special Triple Jump off Yoshi, whilst not necessary would be good additional quirk to this run.

Your post advocates both beating the game and not beating the game. WTF?

Uh I was for a CCC run, but I don't know how I feel about an all-coin run that doesn't start from 120 star SRAM. :( I know that's not possible right now. just saying.

I managed to get all 63 coins in the Tower of the Wing Cap in one run using my own strategy. This video was made sometime in 2006, but I didn't bother uploading it until now! ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytHAS8QyQs

I disagree. Obtaining the "enhanced triple jump" takes long enough to detract from the run's primary goal. As far as I know, that triple jump does not "save," and you have to reobtain it from Yoshi every time you load a file.

IMO it's not related at all to the actual goal and any mario fan would know what it looks like already.

Yeah, and it would look absolutely horrible waiting for Mario to get the 100 lives.

I do not see how, but sorry, did not mean to confuse. What I was saying is that I agree with you that the game should be beaten. It would be a poor end to grab the last coin in Bowser in the Sky and then just leave Mario standing there doing nothing. That said I think it should start from an already completed file to help the run keep its focus.

Fair enough. To be honest do not know a whole lot about it. Once I got the 120 stars back in the day did not really play it again. Just thought as this is something of an extra to the 120 star run that it could be neat. But if the 'enhanced' jump really is not so enhanced then, yeah do not bother. Forgot about the time to tally up the extra lives also.

why would you want 30 stars? the 100 coin star is not needed after you can make MIPS appear (15 stars).
